Ninja Gaiden 1 is covered.  How about 2 and 3?
We deal in lead.
I was just thinking about this. Not doing it, but if anyone had run it.

I'll definently have to check out that run of the first one. =D

I would love to see runs for this trilogy. I haven´t seen a fast run. I saw Kesslers runs a long ago. It is with cutscenes for the first and second game, right? He also finished the first game with only six (or was it two ) hits taken?

I´m a little bit of a fan for this trilogy and play trough the games now and then. A few months ago I got all games for my NES complete, mint contition Wink The third one was a bitch to beat becuse after 5 countinues you loose.

What I have seen the second game will be a little easier. A hard thing with the first and second game is planning wich items you going to take. You need to know what is in moust of the balls or things you got items or power in... annyway, In the third game you don´t have this problem. You always see wich item you will get.

Ninja gaiden 1:
a lots of annoying enemies the first times trough this game. Some places is very hard even if you know how to do. ( worse then the other games ). As for the other games planning wich weapon is the best will be difficult if you aim for a very good time. A goal to challenge can be the record on twingalaxies ( 13:36 by Daniel Morin ). Its possible to get a better time then that.

Ninja gaiden 2:
PLanning items is a bitch here to. I like the shadows that following you. It would be great to see someone shows how to handle this ones good. As i mentioned. I think this is the easiest run to do. But I´m not very sure.
The record is 13:26 by Dominic Laroche on twingalaxies, again, sadly wee can´t see the run. Or do someone now if they are hosted somewhere?

Ninja gaiden 3:
Take all items wich giving you more ammo will be important to collect. maximum is 80 I think if you don´t die game over and collect the item one more time. Maybe it´s a good Idea to skip one or two of those. But more ammo is probably the best option. You will need it on the bosses. ´The final stage is a bitch.. Maybe you will have to collect items that get you more time. ( Or maybe I´m too slow ). I haven´t found a good strategy on th first form of the final boss so I have fire here and use everything I got on this boss. The last two forms can be killed with the sword. I haven´t seen a record or run for this game more then the TAS.

By the way, I have heard that the american version is harder then the japanese (  Grin ) Do someone know why and how? I´m curious. This game were never released in europe. We just have or slow versions, Shadow warriors 1 and 2.

I want to do this runs myself but I can´t finish em anytime soon. Lucky running if someone will try running this games. I will give you the support I can.
Not going to school today
I've been working on Ninja Gaiden (the first one) for the past week or so.  I've never really played the game, and I don't really like the game, but someone seriously needs to do it.  Don't expect anything soon, though. I'm having serious problems beating the second form of the final boss (he floats around and shoots fireballs).  I can generally get all the way there with no problems, but I still suck royally at fighting him.

Oh, the painful memories of eagles and constantly hearing the death tune...

Can't wait!

Tmont: The second form is definately one of the hard place in the game. What about have some special weapon for that one? I haven´t done deep research for wepons.
love those eagles  Tongue

Yeah, the second of the final boss trio is definitely the hardest of the three.  You can't have a special weapon for him without dying (game takes it away after you kill the first one), and that forces you to do the entire level again, so that's a no go for a speedrun.  I find it's best to attack him while he's moving away from you, and if you can get the slash canceling technique down you can land a couple hits each jump (I know it exists, but don't know rightly how to do it).

I hope you go through with this tmont, I'd love to see a run of this up on the site.  I toyed with the notion of doing it myself about a month ago, did a couple playthroughs and some preliminary planning, but only had the game on loan and had to give it back.  Plus, I recently got FF12, so that's going to consume the next couple months of my gaming life easily.  If you haven't already, watch the TAS.  A lot of what's in there is unusable cheater crap (flying up ladders and whatnot), but there's definitely some usable stuff, most notably a couple cool damage boosts that are pretty easy to pull in real time.
Not going to school today
Well, I finally beat the game today.  I can now officially say that I will do the run.  For a while, I was afraid I wasn't going to be able to beat it.  I've been stuck at the second form of the last boss for like a week!

I'm not playing as much as I usually do, because I'm a little busy with school and stuff.  My goal is to have it done before I graduate at the end of March.  My other goal is to match or at least get close to the world record of 13:whatever.
Haters gonna hate
Glad to hear it, and I wish you the best of luck.  I'm fully aware of just how frustrating this game can be even playing normally.  It can pure hell at speed and errors usually equal death and a reset as opposed to a minor setback.  Given your past work, though, I'm sure you'll put something quite impressive together eventually if you keep at it.  Looking forward to it!
Hey, maybe it's just me but I can't figure out how to cause damage to the third form of the last boss (i'm talking about ninja gaiden III).

What am I not doing???  This is driving me crazy
Nevermind . . . i figured it out.

Now I can officially say that i've beaten all 3 ngs!

So, I'm about ready to record, and I did a practice run today.  I died twice in 5-3 (idiot!), and kind of sucked pretty bad in 6-2 and 6-3.  The final time was approximately 16:20.  I lost probably a minute and a half on 5-3, and maybe another minute on level 6.  It doesn't seem like there's a lot of room for improvement, but maybe I'm missing something.  Here's my best times for each level; if someone knows how to improve some of them, or is holding on to some sweet strategy, let me know.

Sounds good tmont. I hope you can get a good run. I can´t help you very much. I hope you can beat 13:36 or at least be close to it. Because I can´t see how fast 13:36 is  :-/

we need a ninja gaiden run =)

Does anyone have any good strategies for quickly defeating the first three bosses in Ninja Gaiden 2?

Here is the tas, you might want to take a look as it will probably help.

I did a practice speedrun of Ninja Gaiden II from stage 1-1 through stage 3-3.  You can view the video here:

If anyone has any suggestions about how I could significantly improve my time, please let me know.

In stage 2-1, I missed the second shadow ninja, so I had to turn around to get it.

In stage 2-2, right before I climbed the wall to the last area, I got hit by two enemies that I can usually avoid or kill.

In stage 3-1, I usually don't get stuck on the sides of those thin stone pillars.

I've done the boss battle in 3-3 faster.

Your run looks pretty decent.  I've never played Ninja Gaiden III, so I don't have anything else to say.  We really need to get this trilogy represented here, though.  Keep at it!

Also, a small update on my journey through the game with the most confusing story and the worst cut-scenes of all time, for those of you who care.  I said I was going to start recording a couple days ago, but I talked with rdrunner (who has a 14:22 on tape), and he helped me out with some strategies.  Mainly, I need to get a consistent strategy for the third boss (the only one besides the last two that you can't use the Swirly Slash on), and a better (i.e. faster) strategy for the second to last boss.  I think it's possible to beat him in 20-30 seconds (120-130 remaining) if I can master the down+slash multiple hit trick.  It's kind of fickle, like the Spread spam in Contra.

Anyway, I'm still working on it.  By my calculations, if I had a perfect run, I would get a time of around 13:45 or so.  There's not much more improvement to be had in any of the levels as far as I can tell, so that's why I think the second to last boss can be improved by so much.

Edit: I'm talking about Ninja Gaiden (the first one), by the way, since that wasn't real clear from my post, as they all have bad cut-scenes and confusing stories.

yea, we need this trilogy. Vgmrsepitomes you tube run is for the second ninja gaiden game. Annyway. it looks good but it seems like there is place for small time savers here and there. Can´t really tell though. It looks good annyway. Just practice and make some small runs for the hard levels too =)

I got a run on tape today.  My original plan was to match the TG world record of 13:36, but as I kept playing this game, I realized how much I hated it, and wanted to stop playing it forever.  So then my plan was to get sub-14, and call it good.  However, my run today timed in at about 13:49, and there were some pretty boner mistakes, so I think I'll keep trying for another week or so, and see if I can improve it.  Here were the times for all the levels:

As you can see, the biggest mistake was in 4-3.  I fell off a ledge and had to climb back up.  I couldn't believe it; it was pretty ugly.  But I made up for it in levels 5 and 6, where I hardly made any mistakes.  Overall, it was a really solid run.  Also, the second-to-last boss fight was pretty awesome.  The fight itself was kind of ugly-looking, and I got thrashed pretty bad, and I had only one bar of life for like the last 10 seconds.  It's pretty exciting. However,  I got enough double hits on him to make up some of the time lost when I jumped into him like an idiot.  I even whiffed him one time, and that doesn't happen very often.

Sounds good Tmont! If you like to send this 13:49 you should do so. Even better if you try to improve it. But don´t forgett to post the run in any case! I´m very curious over this one =) good work!

I'm looking forward to seeing your Ninja Gaiden I run.  I'm working on a Ninja Gaiden II run right now.

Awesome tmont, a Ninja Gaiden run for this site is long overdue, and the time sounds great, a couple "boner" mistakes or no.  It's good to know you'll keep trying (bring down that TG record!), but about equally nice to know should burnout claim you there will be something to show for your efforts.

Keep it up!
