After all these topics, I'm going to run this game.

I have a route planned out and am going to start test runs at the end of this week (spring break!  ;D).

I have some little skips (like one in Chapter 12...thanks, kyoiroi!) that'll cut down on time, and roll-jumping is the fastest way to get around.

Would anyone here be severely disappointed if I did multi instead of single? I've been getting amazing times for the first four or five chapters constantly, and I've been thinking about doing one chapter per segment. If everyone's okay with this and just wants the damned run, then I'll do multi segment.
Thread title:
go single.  you have to be super impressive to beat ninja gaiden in one segment.  Grin
Personal Text?
I think it would really depend on what difficulty you plan on running and how good you are at the game.  For me, I would single segment normal or hard and multi segment very hard or master, but I don't know what kind of skill you have.
I've beaten Master Ninja, although it was really hard. I'm probably going to do Normal or Hard. Not sure which one yet, because Normal would be faster, but Hard would probably be more fun.

Most likely Normal because it's faster (don't have to fight Ryu Clones).
Let's fight to computer!
If you really want to single-segment a 2 hour game that can kill you in two seconds if you make a mistake, go for it. I for one would be extremely impressed.
I would suggest single-segmenting Normal or multi-segmenting Hard.

Incidentally, Bigalski did a (presumably multi-segment) Normal run at http://www.iberiansninjagaiden.com/bigalskingb.htm . It's a bit raw but it may be helpful.

And if you multi-segment it, do as many segments as you see necessary to get the most ideal time.  Don't try that "If I do a few long segments it'll be much more impressive than several shorter segments!" thing.  Trust me on that.
Well, I've decided.

I'm going to do a Normal single segment.

*prepares to lose sanity*

Anyway, the run will be interesting. I'll start test runs soon, then actually record sometime next week.
NGB is actually a VERY VERY easy game when played on normal. I wouldn't see a big problem to speedrun this game in normal in one segment, I myself have been preparing one for the latest few weeks.  And dont mistake me for a noob, I have beaten Master Ninja many times. All I'm saying is, a normal SS speedrun on NGB shouldnt be too hard. I will do this run in a few days if only I could get a recording device.
Oh, really?  Sad That sucks.

I might do Hard multi-segment if your time is too low for me to beat. I've only beaten Master once, and don't plan on it again. *glares at Chapters 1-3*

I'd like to see what times you get, if you don't mind saying them.
Tonight when my parents go to bed, I will do 2 test runs and I'll post my times around this time tomorrow. What will be hard for your hard multi-segment is most likely the boss battles, because since a speedrun is when you speed threw the game, most of the fights shouldnt be a trouble. The boss battle will be tricky because of the minions. I think the trickiest bosses will be Alma I, Dynamo, 3 bosses at the Core, maybe the second Hydracubus ( the huge tentacle fiend, you beat him 3 times in normal/hard ).
Well I wanna see your times first to decide whether or not to multi it.

2nd Hydracubus isn't that hard. And the minions are pretty annoying. I'm thinking that each chapter would be a segment if I was going to run this.

Man, my VCR is odd. I have to hit Power then Stop to make it stop recording.  Tongue It still records all of it, but it's odd.

I am not aiming towards you when I say this, but I know that many players are having problems with Alma's first form. I suggest that if your having a lot of problem beating Alma, you should do a 2 segment chapter of chapter 7. One being the Red and Blue Chambers and the Hydracubous, and the other segment being the few rooms after Hydracubous and ALMA. As for chapter 9, I think you should be able to do it all in 1 segment if your able to beat Master Ninja, I dont really consider the tanks in Story Mode to be THAT hard and as for the helicopter, I don't think it should be THAT hard either.

I just tried Chapter 1 for fun and got 4:47 at Normal. I have made a lot of mistakes and I am 100% positive that a time lower than 4:30 is possible. That would mean a perfect fight against Murai and nothing blocking/stopping you during the run to him. If you can beat that on Hard, you are on the right way for a pretty good time. Il add more chapters as I test it a little bit.
After three attempts at Chapter 1, I got 4:00 (first and second time I forgot to get the Key of Courage  :P) on Normal. The time would probably be higher for Hard mode though. I believe sub 3:45 would be possible on Chapter 1 since I got hit two or three times and ran oddly a couple times (*glares at the holes covered by wall scrolls*).

I forgot how easy Normal was after playing some Hard mode and DMC3. >_>

Yeah but the reason that my run took a little longer than yours was because I grabbed every healing items, I'll try to grab every easy-to-get healing items in the game and all the Lives of The Thousand Gods that are dropped by bosses, the reason for that is that since I'm doing a SS run, I wont be stupid and go with no heal, I'll have healing items on me, I won't grab too much but I will grab some, there are also a few fights I do in order to get a certain ammount of essence to upgrade my weapons, the only thing that sucks bad is I wont be able to touch the UF which would be SUCH an advantage in the last bosses of the game.

I'm thinking about getting a few nimpo upgrades because it can come VERY handy in a few bosses, it goes a lot faster and makes you invulnerable. What I'm thinking is I could maybe grab the life of the devil that is beside the clock tower in Tairon.
Yeah, the UF would help immensely, but since this is a speed run, we can't do that. I only grabbed a couple healing items and the Lives were grabbed too. That's essential, along with the Talisman of Rebirth that's right there.

I heard that someone did a run where they got 20 scarabs so they could get the Dabilahro, which would make some later parts easier.

And in my SS route, I grab the Spirit by the clock tower and the one in the sewers in the red reservoir room. Those two are the easiest to get.
Promises promises...

I won't believe this til I see it.
Let's fight to computer!
Given that there are quite a few scarabs you almost literally run right over and many others that are only a few seconds out of the way, I think the Dabilahro is definitely at least worth looking into. I'm looking over some FAQs right now to refresh my memory.
Ok so we need 20 scarabs for the dabilahro and 25 on hard.

I dont really know yet how would the dabilahro be such a huge help though, because there are no ogres or berseckers in normal. I guess there are the dinos but you can skip them all the time except that fight in chapter 4. I dont think i will be getting the dabilahro, i will only upgrade my dragon sword.
I'm thinking that if you're going to SS Normal, I might multi VH. I need to think about it some more.

BTW, I was bored, so I tried Chapter 1 Normal again, this time grabbing most healing items (I think I missed one or two) and I got 4:00! Just thought you should know.
Ok but I have read so much things recently about karma runs that I have started a Master Ninja Karma Run, so my normal speedrun will be delayed AND I'll do a segmented run and a SS run.
Damn, man, you're doing everything. I just can't find a game to run that no one else is doing.  Angry

I'm still gonna try the SS Normal run though, because I can record stuff.
Starting to test run this game, and I forgot just how...cheap? Annoying? Bull****ty? it can be.

Like I'll have a great Chapter 1 and 2, then I get screwed in 3 and have to stop. Ugh.

*goes back to playing*

This run WILL happen, just have to have the game cooperate long enough.
Damn, I go and get 3:57 on Chapter 1 and I don't even record it? I suck.  Tongue
You guys do know there is a totally badass run of Master Ninja online, right?

http://www.iberianwarrior.com/kyoiori_ngb.htm

As of this posting he hasn't put chapter 16 online, but I'm sure his run will be under 3 hours; pretty good considering he doesn't pick up any Lives of the Thousand Gods or ninpo expansions.

Kickass!! Does it obsolete Bigalski's run?

Edit: Too bad those runs arent encoded as a avi file  :-/

Edit 2: But the quality is nice though Wink

Edit 3: Does these guys know about SDA? Dont understand why they dont submit their runs to SDA.

Edit 4: Ok a little bit of research and Bigalskis run was in Normal Mode while this new (?) one is on higher difficulty.
