Hope I got the right forum to post in : ).

Hi all, recently I have been getting into Indie games and loving them, I have been visiting SDA for about a year on and off but with my recent discovery of the indie scene I really want to get into speed running.
At first I wanted to run my own game (no one else attempting it) but after realizing I have no experience I decided I should maybe run a game that is being actively run by others and are still exploring the possibilities. Being new the whole speed running thing I am not sure what's a good first title for running and am looking for suggestions, here are a few titles I loved,  to give you a idea of what I am into.

Bastion
Lone Survivor
Dust An Elysian Tail
Hotline Miami
The cave
Shadowrun Returns
Rogue Legacy
The binding of Isaac
Fez

I am 100% open to picking up other games, can never have too many : P but my internet has crapped out so am looking for games under the 1.5gb mark until it gets fixed : (.
Thread title:
Out of those, Bastion, Dust, Hotline, Rogue Legacy, BoI and Fez all have a decent size of runners with plenty of strategies/glitches. The suggestion is always to pick the game that you wouldn't start hating when you're playing it over and over and over again. :>
good point, might run 2 then. thanks for the help
Wouldn't BoI be incredibly hard to speed run? Not because the game is too hard or anything, but because the whole game is RNG dependant with nothing being scripted. I'm new to the speed running scene myself, but I have a ton of experience with Isaac, so I could be wrong in regards to it being a hard game to run. There are a crap load of glitches in that game, but nothing that changes the RNG. I would go so far as to say that speed running it would be purely luck based.

There's a whole "league" of guys racing against each other in BOI weekly on twitch actually.

Remember, there are lots of games that have tons of RNG.  That doesn't make them un-runnable, it just makes them possibly more frustrating to run - alternatively, some people may like the fact that the run changes each time out and forces adaptation - I know Werster enjoyed running Fire Red Round 2 because the RNG made each attempt very different since you couldn't get the same pokemon each time.
Yep, I'm very familiar with BOILeR. There's a certain amount of skill required for Isaac, primarily you have to have some super powered dodge shoes lol. I suppose that's true though, there are a lot of RNG based games. I guess as long as there's a category where you can't use Dr Fetus, Epic Fetus, Ipecac, or the Shovel (D6 allowed, not going total BOILeR rules there lol), it could make things interesting.
Setting BoI WRs requires non-stop resetting until the first room gives you a Dr Fetus upgrade. From there on, it's a combination of luck and skill in clearing/skipping rooms as fast as you can.
Dust: An Elysian Tail is a really fun game with one really broken category under half an hour (any% warps), one slightly less broken category just over an hour (any% warpless), and one slightly more involved category that requires a bit more routing, knowledge, and luck, and over 2 hours (117% warps). And, if you hate yourself and like 3+ hour runs, there's a category for you too (117% warpless). Plus, we have a pretty active thread here on SDA, plus a bunch of other runners besides. You should join our group!

Otherwise, seconding all the games Onin mentioned. Plus, as mentioned, BoI has an entire racing league, if you're into that.
