Hello there!

My name is Steve and I recently released a new Metroidvania game called Operation Smash. From start I designed the game with speedrunning in mind since I've always loved to watch speedruns. The game can be played casually but there is also some mechanics and glitches there for those that find them to abuse for sequence breaking and speedrunning purposes. The game was heavily inspired by some of the most classic Metroidvania games. At the moment, the game is only available on Desura but it is on it's way out on other portals as well.

What is a man?
Tested out the game and I find it pretty amusing to say the least, have started to also take notes of where things are on the map. Let's see if it it holds until the end! Smiley

Edit 1: I'm trying to get my PS3 controller that's hooked up to the computer to work with the game, because i see there is definitely support for gamepads in here, as i can move around with the D-Pad,
but i can't jump or do other stuff with it? is it possible to make it work?

When you start the game there is a prelauncher, try using that to define keys, (will not work on linux at the moment). In worst case you can use a gamepad to keyboard remapper to make it work.

Okay, found a first minor sequence break and a technique that might be useful elsewhere (only just started the game): For the diagonal launch pads you can gain additional height by standing in the middle of them, jump, then trigger them as you fall and jump off the rising platform again. This allows you to reach the Health Powerup two rooms to the right of the starting room from the bottom which you normally couldn't at the start.

I just grenade jumped all the way up the shaft/tower/whatever you'd call it in the fire area. I have no idea whether it skips anything important. I'm also carrying a battery from this area, which might be useful somewhere later, I wouldn't know. Cheesy

It is, at first I was sceptical whether this shaft skip was worth the time, but with how big and annoying this area is, unless there's a double jump upgrade here it's probably gonna pay off.

Then again, considering its design, I'd be surprised if there ISN'T a double jump in there.

How does the grenade jump work?I can do it off the ground to get a bit higher, but can it be done in the air?

Basically, any time a grenade explodes while you're airborne, it knocks you up by about one square in height. It's not a lot but it's barely enough to get to a few places you otherwise wouldn't be able to. Just gotta get the timing down for when to jump.

Multiple grenades can increase the boost height, but grenades also apply their physics to other grenades, so there's a point where they're just knocked out of range before they can boost you.

I managed to skip to the Time Machine room from the Hammer Charge Upgrade Room. No clue what I can do from there though, I'll have to bombjump just to reach the savepoint here.

Ok, so I found a game breaking ability. Once you get more into the fire area, you will know. Got it after getting the second battery.

I cant bring myself to look for game breaking things in my first playthrough.

I called the fire place having double jump. By the way, you DON'T need to gather the batteries there! A triple bomb jump can get you up to the upgrade. :3
