A person who goes by Naota over at the katamari message board is interested in improving on some of Snapdragon's Katamari Damacy videos.  He is also speedrunning two new stages from Katamari Damacy that can be speedrun but don't have videos up - Ursa Major (Kintaro Bear) and Taurus (Holy Cow).  The new speedruns will be from starting the levels to capturing the most impressive cow/bear, and will not need to be timed manually, because the results screen shows the time the stage took.

He plans to record with VHS, then transfer the videos to computer himself.  Does anybody have any advice I can give him about that?

I am personally excited about these videos.  Naota's times are impressive.  Is it possible that the new videos (videos of the two new stages and/or improvements to Snapdragon's videos) may be accepted?  Anybody interested?

I always hated those stages, I'd have a friggen huge Karamari and I'd end up running over a carton of milk >.<

King of Cosmos: It's a COOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWW!!!!!!!
these will be cool to see
only advice i have to give is the faq at faq.metroid2002.com, but of course it's preferred that i capture them, because video capture will probably eat him alive if he's never done it before.

I will pass along both those pieces of advice.  He is currently recording on VHS and plans to encode them himself, so maybe he can be convinced to send you the VHS tape(s) instead.
Why doesn't the person himself tell us this information? Or at least could you post a link to what message board you're talking about?
He is Naota at http://s9.invisionfree.com/Katamari_Damacy/index.php

He hasn't posted about his speedrunning even at that message board though.  He has only PMed me.  If you really think he should post here then I will ask him to.

If he's going to capture himself, he really shouldn't record to VHS first.  Not only is there horrible interference with video and especially audio, that interference further reduces encoding quality... for the interference.  Just wanted to mention this if you thought it wouldn't be that bad, well, it's bad.

Making an appearance.

I can capture them myself if I have to, the only problem is that my VCR is part of my TV, so it's harder to capture them.  I have done capture before, and I can convert to h.264, x264 XviD, DviX.  I'd rather send you the VHS' though if that is possible.

I also have some videos of other levels that better than what Snapdragon has posted.  Some are only a little better, I have a 6:12 on make the moon on tape over his 6:26, and some are quite a bit better, my 2:07 on Make a Star 4 over his 2:24.  I'd love to send in tapes of those to be posted as well if that is ok.  I'm still working on quite a few of the other scores though.  I'm going for records on all of them, but as it turns out Snapdragon is a darn good player.

Anyways, I had a question.  If I send you VHS tapes, would you prefer all of the runs on one tape or a tape for each run?  Overall I would probably have 12 runs, so the choice is up to you.

Oh, and Tom, SlowBro, SloBro, Sir, thanks a ton again for all the stuff you've done for me as of late.  You are most assuredly a cool fellow.

Smiley I'm glad you made an appearance here, and I am glad you are still working on the videos.  Thanks for the compliment even though I haven't helped much.

I think you know this, but you don't have to beat all of Snapdragon's times in order to submit videos.  But since SDA likes a complete set, I think it would be best if you do both a Cow and a Bear video, not just one or the other (in addition to whatever other videos you do).

I know that when I submit videos I wind up with multiple levels on the same tape, with lots of mistake runs in between.  I just have to tell Nate where on the tape the successful runs are (and follow all the rules on the submission page).  I better leave your questions to people who can answer them better than I can.  I look forward to your Cow and Bear videos.
one tape is more difficult for you (but less expensive to buy and to ship). what we prefer above all else is quality (in both gameplay and video picture). so if that means one run per tape, so be it. just don't forget to tell me what to capture as per the submission guidelines (linked from the sda home page).

Ok, I gotcha.  I'll for sure record in standard than rather than Long or anything, and I'll get some good quality tapes.  I'm not sure exactly how many tapes or how many runs per tape it will be.  I'll try and play around a bit to see what gives the best quality.

I know I don't have to beat all of Snapdragon's runs, but that doesn't mean I don't want to  ;).
ooooooh....good luck I'm looking forward to this
