I've started working on JoeQuake again and came up with a new build. New features include:
- complete new Options menu system: JoeQuake already has plenty of commands/cvars which are hard to keep in mind all the time, I tried to help players (especially newcomers) to make their customizations more easily
- ability to set widescreen fov (turned on by default)
- dynamic HUD/console scaling, no need to use -conwidth or -conheight from the command line any more
- alternative HUD
- providing more built-in crosshairs and console/menu character sets

There's a slight chance that due to the new features - especially the dynamic HUD/console scaling - you will encounter bugs or engine freeze, so before trying out the new build make sure to create a backup of your current config.
