So, it's been a long time since I last posted here. I've been waiting to get my HD capture card to start recording runs on my Wii U.  I got it over Christmas and I finally started doing runs again.  I did my first runs on Extreme and this is what I ended up with:

I'm REALLY pleased with this run.  Didn't think I could get a Sub-37 this quickly. Tongue

Here's the whole run:

ah man my name is almost off the front page.  Looks like Extreme needs to become a thing for me, because I'm not gonna get that godlike RNG on another Easy run in a while...

Extreme is a lot more dangerous than easy, but overall it's a lot more fun.  I was on the edge of my seat after Transylvania.  lol
I can get to the Amazon then die 100% of the time right now.  I just need to learn the pathing haha.

@VforExtreme: Welcome and good luck on speed running. rTiimber and I( DuckTalesGuru29/EXT) have been waiting for somebody else to challenge us. I am currently second on the leaderboards and have come extremely close to regaining the number one spot. Do you or anyone else have an idea how much time going through a bonus stage( with Gyro in the clouds) adds to the in-game time? Furthermore, I have mastered avoiding the bonus stages on easy difficulty, but am not totally 100% how to avoid them on Extreme. Any thoughts? And keep in mind my latest time is 7 seconds off the world record with encountering one bonus stage( of course falling through the pit as soon as possible). Lastly, if you have any questions, just ask because I know this game from the back of my head. Good luck.
I left my submission for DT:R for SGDQ 2014 open to races, so if anyone is wanting to go, and they're looking to run this game, I'm totally down.  I have the system set for Wii U due to hardware being fairly consistent between Wii U's.
For Fun! For GLORY!!
I'm game Tony. I'll offer it up once I get some more practice in on the other game I'm submitting. Smiley

Sadly, I don't know how much time Gyro adds to the in-game timer, but I do know that the difficulty modifier multiplies how much money you have in the level by 1.5x.  It doesn't include the treasure at the end of the level. Those will always remain $1,000,000.  So just try to keep a mental track of how much money you currently have during the level and multiply by 1.5.  That's the best advice I can give to anyone having trouble with money.  It's not easy, but it's practically the only option.
@Guru: Did I understand correctly and you improved your time? What is it currently at? You're playing with 3 hearts? How was the luck in the run?

Also, for the money to take, I use an Excel sheet, where I can enter my initial money and check in my "normal" amount which I get on each level. Should I get more/less, it's some quite simple mathematics to be done and to negate in upcoming levels.

Only one week left of vacation now, then I will start playing again. Good luck guys!

@rTiimber: As far as I can remember, I completed the run with three hearts, one extra beagle boy, and a solid mine glitch. Vesuvius was a little sloppy and naturally I got a two bat pattern. The unfortunate thing is I also got one bonus stage. My results: 31:49 (IGT) and 35:26 (RTA). This was seven seconds off of your time and I'm guessing that without the bonus stage it would've been 3 to 4 seconds off of your time. I must say that I am very impressed with your run considering you even got 4 hearts and I still haven't passed it with three hearts( although I rarely actually get through). I think you literally meant it when you said that your PB featured a run that you "humanly tried to perfect the gameplay". The unfortunate thing is I get rewarded with a three bat pattern on two runs, yet no coveted one bat pattern. I get the feeling that whomever  of us ends up with the best time will be a time that may never be beaten. Best of luck when you return.
@Guru: I actually don't think Bonus stages are adding time to the IGT. Which would also explain why you get +16s RTA compared to me, but only +7s IGT.

So  far, I know my time can be beaten by ~25-30s. I just hope I'll be the one to do it. Wink

@rTiimber: But the question is will we? Keeping in mind you time only had one extra beagle boy a pretty good mine glitch, and an excellent means it will be difficult to replicate. The only way I see that time being beaten is likely with a one-bat pattern, which as you know are hard to come by. Are you positive bonus stages don't add any time to the IGT?  At least 3 to 4 seconds goes into controlling Scrooge before falling down. I am guessing the helicopter part doesn't count and when you're standing still doesn't count, but when you're moving likely does. That would be awesome if it didn't count. I know this is off topic, but how do you live in Sweden or Switzerland and speak fluent english?
@Guru: I have gotten runs on Easy with and without Bonus stages before as well, and the RTA difference is always around the amount of time it takes extra for Bonus stage (which seems to be 9s) if comparing both runs with each other. For me it's not a real issue, since IGT is only for the leaderboards anyways, and I'm aiming for lower RTA times.

I do still agree, though. My extreme run was really tightly executed, and I find it hard to think that anyone (even myself) can get a run that quick with four hearts, and without getting only one bat pattern. I sort of feel a bit bummed out that I need to try and improve on that run, with more risk and needing more luck at the very end of it. I know we will both beat that run someday, but might not have the same skill that I managed in that specific run. My most optimized runs (pure skill wise) are this one, followed by the Easy run of 33:53 I had (with three bat patterns before cinema skip), and then the Easy before cinema skip - 33:18 I had with one bat pattern.

I will upload the video when I get home next week, and will probably need to start grinding individual levels, to be able to match those times again myself. One of the worst things is that in my record run, I even put African Mines as the second to last (or was it last) level - and for once managed to get a freaking good Mine Glitch that late into the run.

You seem to be on track for getting down to those times at least. If you recently have gotten just 7s off, you should be able to beat it quite soon if you are just lucky enough on Dracula while still having a descent run.

And yeah, it's really off topic. Smiley I live in Sweden, but we learn english from when we're ten years old. My daily work also involves working with colleagues of maybe 10-20 nationalities and I also work with a customer located in the UK... with that said, I don't really think my english is especially good, but enough to manage the situations i encounter.
Where is everyone who used to comment on this forum? This place seems like a ghost town these days.
@rTiimber: I thought you'd be back from your vacation by now. I'm going to keep running easy and extreme and hope for good results. Comment when you get back.
@Radman: Have you been speed running lately?
@Everyone else: Where is the rest of the competition? rTiimber and I have been atop those leaderboards since forever.
For Fun! For GLORY!!
DTG: Trying to get back into it. Focused more on getting healthy again. When I stream now, it's doing KSS ILs and Arena runs. Might unrust DTR soon. Smiley
Haha I'm mainly running Mighty Switch Force! and Octodad: Dadliest Catch.  I'm still planning on learning extreme, so you can expect my name to stay on the front page.

Also, I don't think it helps that there's a lot of decisive RNG in this run :/

Bonus stage time is added to the IGT, I verified it by looking at the game's memory.

@Keylie: How did you manage to do that? Also, do you have any idea how much time is added to the IGT from the bonus levels? My guess is that 3 to 4 seconds are added from controlling scrooge until falling.  Could you also shed light on other spots that you confirmed when the IGT is running? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think it runs while the game is paused, correct?

@TonyOgbot: Which platform do you play for and what is your username?

@Radman: My suggestion is that you watch rTiimber's and Captain Drakes runs on extreme and run it like they do. With enough practice, I have no doubt that you could get higher on the leaderboards. The translyvania skip in and of itself makes extreme the ideal difficulty to run. The extra heart in the himalayas is a must unless you are Tiimber and I.  My suggestion is that you run the Himalayas( extra heart, plus number of beagles known), Amazon( toughest world on extreme), and African mines( nasty mine glitch) first. The latter two you can do in any order. But I am of the opinion that these three worlds are the most likely to stopping a run on extreme. Good luck.

P.S.- I tutored somebody and he is now 5th on the leaderboards. It took him a good 10.5 hours of running to post those results, but he was pleased.
I've been playing the last few days, shut into a dark room (no reflection on the screen to disturb). Today I got two new PBs, and the last most probably a WR - even by PC standards counting towards IGT(?!). RTA can't compete at all between platforms.

I first got a solid 35:04 RTA / 31:35 IGT with two bat patterns, and then a bit later I managed to get 34:42 RTA / 31:11 IGT. The run itself wasn't that good (I have been ahead 8s earlier, but screwed up Moon Boss, which is my last level).

But the big difference was that I only got the one bat pattern and also more or less perfected Vesuvius (except final escape, coward strats). I think I got two extra Beagle Boys, and maybe +3s off the Mine Glitch from the previous run.

If anyone knows what the current WR is for IGT on PC, I would love to hear it.

My target for the future is to improve to get down to the 31 minute mark. It's probably hard as hell, but I know I can do it.

@rTiimber: You must be insane. Playing in a dark room, abandoning your job and forsaking all existing life until you retook the record. Congrats though, for likely solidifying yourself for not only the number one spot on the Wii U leaderboards, but likely the World record. I figured that it would've taken you more than a day this time, but I didn't think that you would've done it this soon. The law of averages say you shouldn't of gotten a one bat pattern that soon, but what do I know? When did you get back from vacation?

I came back monday, but didn't play until Wednedsay. But gave up quickly then as well, due to my eye irritating me (have had a cold for a while). It's first today I wasn't sick, and I decided to give it all tries I can.

Tomorrow begins the hunt for 31:00 IGT, probably ~34:30 RTA. You're in for aiming towards 31:00, right? Smiley

@rTiimber: I'll probably try, but I know it won't be easy. I actually got the former number one record about a week ago, but didn't post it and decided to leave it as a surprise for you when you returned. Were surprised I beat your time or did you inevitably expect it? My PB is 31:30 and here is the run down:

- 0 beagles
- Yeti- 1 on the edge and two in the middle( so I calculate this as one extra beagle boy)
- Good, but not great mine glitch
- No extra heart
- Did not pogo after Launch Pad's helicopter
- Translyvania- Ducked, got hit, and wacked a tombstone; Didn't risk air jumps and getting hit by vulture on magiva
- Splinter flashed 2 to 3 times
- Vesuvius- Got hit 3 times by creatures, got ice cream cone, moved back a moment to avoid the ghost; stopped for a moment on chain; Could've released pogos quicker on Dracula
- Himalyayas- Got hit on Bubba part; got ice cream cone at the end of the world

So in my estimation, I could get around 35 to 40 seconds better if I did everything humanly possible, got perfect luck on the yeti, beagles, no mistakes, better mine glitch, and a one bat pattern. In my view, I believe a sub 31 is possible. What do you think? I guess their is no shame in being second best, right?

Yeah, I sort of knew you would beat it sometime during those three weeks, but were shocked you got it, since you kept quiet about it. Sub 31 is very possible, but not much less. Once again worst thing is that we're dependent on luck after more than 30 minutes, which is sort of sad.

I still knew I could beat your time with 2 bat patterns, if I play my best, but now we'll always need the best of luck to beat the times. But this time will get beat sooner or later.

@rTiimber: One last question, was your new PB with getting an extra heart or not? My guess would be not.

Oh no, no extra heart. I've practised Amazon soo much, that I don't need it anymore. In fact, didn't die at all to Amazon Boss in 8-10 tries today.
