God damn it, I totally forgot AGDQ. Angry
I only now started watching.

Is there a video of Satoryu's run? I really want to see it.

I am still quit caught up in SM3DW, so I haven't had time to run DT:R. I haven't forgotten you guys Tongue

Quote from Gaël:
Low% isn't the same as Any%

Low% should be no money (maybe there's a few you can't dodge)/no hearts/no invicible coins/no health upgrade/no 1up

If money is one of the criteria of gathering any single %, no. But as far as I understood it, what's counting towards gaining in percent, is permanent upgrades that you keep throughout the run. For example in Zelda for low%, you are allowed to grab rupees (more than minimum required to buy items) but grab no extra hearts, for 100% you may skip upgrades if you get the better versions in the end (eg. skip Blue Mail and go directly for Red Mail). You also don't need to end rupees count at 255.

If money doesn't count towards the end %, that would mean that any% and low% is essentially the same. Invisible coin gives temporary upgrades, but not permanent.

Of course I might be wrong, and in this game money could count towards what % you end up with. If you are correct, then also Easy would be the category for low%, since grabbing some money is inevitable, and Extreme adds a factor of 1.5 to each one of them.

It would be nice to get a final decision on what goes for each categories in this game.

In the AGDQ twitch chat I saw this get posted:

I can't seem to start watching Satoryus run, but apparently it should be this link:

No money pick up (outside from inevitables), would mean that you get the bonus round quite often. So basically we need to manage our money to prevent those.

100% would be very hard to do as well, if money was a factor, since there is no official amount of gems given. I have mapped most of Extreme's gems with some help, but someone might've found more (even though we were very precise).

So in my opinion regular gems shouldn't be a factor. Instead...

Any% = Everything goes
Low% = You need to collect at least some of the hearts, 1ups and hidden treasures.
100% = You need to collect all the hearts, 1ups and hidden treasures.
Glitchless versions would be the same, but without glitching.

As for difficulty categories, only Easy and Extreme stand out, which is why you only speedrun either one of them. Normal and Hard aren't that different and no one runs them. Even though the game doesn't separate them, we should, since the gameplay is drastically different.

Not sure, but that link is the Jak & Daxter speedrun. In any way, it says I need Flash, so I can't confirm it.
I am using Wii U to post at the moment, since there I don't have access to a computer (I am traveling in a train at the moment). Wii U is surprisingly portable Cheesy
Thanks Tiimber.

And yeah, I agree that gems shouldn't be a factor for 100% category, and if it ends up being a factor I think we should at least have one category for beating the game with all hearts and hidden treasures, I would run that at least.
I never thought I'd actually say this, but soy numero uno! I really didn't know what to expect from my run and figured I would've at least beat my alternate PB of 34:01, but was in dismay when I saw my new PB at the top of the leaderboards which is 32:07 IGT and roughly 35:45 according to my watch chronograph. However, knowing Tiimber, I expect that both Tiimber and I will be beating this time in the future. My rundown: 0 beagles, subpar mine glitch, two bat patterns, and a solid, but by no means excellent run. The only unfortunate thing is I do not have a video to prove that I did this, so I am trusting that all fellow speed runners will take my word and in-game time to heart. I really ought to figure out how to actually record my runs on video.

@Blue Link: How has your progress been thus far?

@Mauste: I like the idea of having glitchless runs being an alternate category. I'd be curious to know who has the the best  run sans the glitches.

Congrats Guru. I've actually not been playing this game for the last two days - have been way too tired. I will give it more tries and think the time to aim for (with safety heart) is 31:30-31:40 for the IGT. I will go on vacation in about a week, and knowing me, I will continue playing after it, but it means I will take a three weeks break, so you will have time to perfect your run and break me totally during that time. Smiley

Going by SDA standards, your RTA seems to be the same as mine, so we still don't know who's the best according to SDA timing. Wink

Edit: I've done quite some tries at Extreme, and had no luck at Glumgod, this was one of the tries:

(Sorry, I posted the wrong clip, and threw away the original - I had a similar one when being 15s ahead at the end of a run)

Edit: Another session is over (will do one more today). I had a quite good time (-10s) up to Dracula - and of course I get three bat patterns. In this run I got 6 extra Beagle Boys (yes, that's how bad they're been earlier today - I actually settle for that. I normally don't rage - but I did this time. Sad
On my sixth hour of playing today, I finally beat the PB. I not only beat it, I more or less crushed it. I got two bat patterns, so there is still some room for improvement.

The final time was 35:10 RTA and 31:42 IGT (35s and 31s quicker times). I had extreme luck... not with Beagle Boys, but with Amazon boss. I must've fell asleep and went the wrong way at one moment and must've saved myself at the very last frame (or maybe some very generous collision detection - or glitch?!), and thereafter nearly got killed again, but managed to not die anyways, while still going with a good pace. Video clip of that here:

Kudos Tiimber. Never doubt the heart of a champion. My reign as number one lasted for a total of no more than one day. LOL. It is beyond me how you survived the Amazon boss. In addition, don't forgot that even with a perfect run the time can still be improved by at least 24 seconds. 8 if you skip the extra heart and 16 if you get one bat pattern. Just curious, how did the plane segment and your mine glitch go?
Yeah, skipping that heart will be a pain. Mine glitch took me around 13 seconds, one extra Beagle Boy.

What I see as possible improvements (with my skill set):

Money Bin: < 1s
The Moon: 1-2s
Himalayas: 7s (extra heart), 1-2s (optimized playing), 3s (One extra Beagle Boy), 1s Boss (hate that last rock might miss if hitting it directly)
Amazon: 1s (extra heart takes time to kill me), 4s (sloppy play), 3s Boss
Transsylvania: 3s (optimized playing), 2s Boss
African Mines: 1s (optimized playing)
Vesuvius: 3s (optimized playing), 18s Dracula Luck (I measure it to 18s loss on bat pattern), <2s Escape sequence

So, in my eyes a potential time would be ~48s lower than my time, which would mean 34:22 / 30:54. My potential is probably around 20s above that, which is what I aim for when I stop grabbing the extra heart.
@DuckTalesGuru: haven't played another run yet, I'm trying to improve my timing on the Mine skip for now, I'm starting to get most rocks consistently on less than 3 tries each, but I don't seem to have a good reference for the second rock...

Also, I'm doing some mistakes at some stages as well (Amazon, Himalayas and Vesuvius, damn, I fucking hate Vesuvius), so I'm grinding those stages for now as well before I try another run.
For Fun! For GLORY!!
I see we have a new runner! Aroo Blue Link!

Sadly I'll be giving this game a rest. I wanna try some Kirby. Still stuck in bed, so we'll have to wait to see what happens soon.

Oh, and gratz DTGuru! Cheesy

Hold that thought, Tiimber retook the number one spot in a total of six hours. You really ought to keep running this game. I would love to see your and Blue Links times up there as well. Why are you stuck in bed? Your leg infection must be nasty. Get well and hope for more speed runs.
For Fun! For GLORY!!
It's nerve pain, not an infection. I haven't been able to move right for months.
And I'm not giving up on it, just taking a break. I'll be running still, I just need to get my sleep schedule back after AGDQ. Tongue
Now that you don't have to scroll a page to see my name on the Wii U leaderboard, anybody want to race this with me at SGDQ? Smiley
Hello Radman!

And don't worry, DTGuru, I will eventually get my times up there, but it will surely take some time, this is the first game ever I'm speedrunning, and I'm trying to learn F-zero GX as well (and that is the definition of insanely hard, holy crap).
@Blue Link: What is your Wii U user name? What place are you on thus far?

@TonyOgbot: I'd love to race if somebody let me know how to do it.

I don't have a Wii U, I'm playing on PS3. Last time I checked (yesterday) I was at 16th place at that leaderboard. BTW, the WR at PSN is something like 25 minutes o_O

Speaking of SGDQ, I'm considering attending either next SGDQ or AGDQ, but I have the issue that I'm from Brazil lol I will see if it's possible though.

If I can make it, you're on! :3

It is. If you can even be half as good as CGN you'd be 10 times better then me. :3
Hey guys. I've mainly been preparing for my vacation and will leave tomorrow. I'll be back in about three weeks. Meanwhile I wish you all luck on your running (not too much, though Wink ). When I get back, I will aim for cutting off 15-25s on my Extreme PB. And hopefully find some other category to run, like "all money" or similar.
On the topic of categories, I feel that Easy and Extreme should be considered separate categories.  I feel that the pathing has enough changes between the two that it would be unfair to really try to hold an Easy run in the same regard as an Extreme run.

Also, I think no skips would be an interesting category for the sake of giving us something different to path out and learn.  To be completely honest, I've never played the Moon in it's entirety, nor have I ventured past the mine skip.
For Fun! For GLORY!!
Moon was fun to route before the skips were found. It had a death abuse in Extreme where when you got the last of Gizmoduck's parts, you could die and end up back at the rocket where you get Gizmoduck, who opens the vault. And an advantage to the Mines skip is you skip over what I believe to be the hardest screen in the whole game to do fast. So Easy and Extreme as categories I'm for, as they're routed differently. But for skipless, I still don't know.
Is "all money" even possible on Extreme without losing tons of time getting a lot of 1 UPs? you would have to die a lot to get all the money from the cart sections.
I've been trying some more on extreme, but cannot seem to ever(only once but did not beat my PB) get through the run with three hearts. At least when I used to run on easy, I made it to the end frequently and therefore gave myself chances to hope for a single bat pattern. Unfortunately, that has not been the case with extreme. Not only do I have to deal with the tedius affair of getting a good mine glitch and very few beagles on the plane, but I have to brave the amazon and all the other challenges whilst only having 3 hearts. I will try some more, but at some point will have to call it quits and may just have to settle for 2nd best. I just hope that rare time I actually get a good run in, that I'll be rewarded with a one bat pattern.
Weirdly enough, what I'm missing the most while on holiday is running DuckTales. Smiley

@Guru: I think I've only speedrun through this game fully three times on Extreme. Of course it's probably hundreds if not thousands of attempts leading up to it. In my case, I think I practically perfected the gameplay in my PB run (as far as I am humanly able to), except for the extra heart and luck on Dracula.

I have played quite a few times trying for 3 hearts, but the time I loose taking the extra heart is quickly eaten up by not being able to recreate my best play from the previous run. I heard a rumor about 31:18 on the PC leaderboard - I would say that run would probably be the same skill wise as my run, but without extra heart and good luck with bat patterns. Probably a bit better on the Mine Glitch as well (since I've heard that PC is easiest platform for it), and mine was a few seconds slower than "my best".

Anyways, back to relaxing. Have fun!
