Looks like Fanva is running at twice the speed lol. Exactly why I gave up on running the PC version, it's complete BS.
That is pretty much why we use in game time instead of RTA, so it's fair.

Except it is not. IGT has been proven to be inconsistent as well.
For example, some people have improved on their RTA, but gotten a worse IGT. Others have gotten a worse RTA, but still improved their IGT.

Not to mention there is no way to know your IGT at any point of the run, or even after the run... unless you get a personal best on the leaderboards. This is why RTA is the way to go.
PC players are simply speedrunning against themselves, because the game's speed seems to vary between the players.
Yeah well now I'm looking for something else as I cant play this game anymore due to it being to fast to control... Sad Sucks tho since its a fun game
I'm in the need of a break. Luckily, Super Mario 3D World was just released in Sweden - so I'll run that casually for a week or so before Duck Tales get some real runs again.
For Fun! For GLORY!!
So the runner for AGDQ has been more or less chosen, and it is Satoryu. He's better at doing Extreme then I ever will be, and I'm out of practice anyway, so congrats to him. :3

I have been running this game once or twice per day, but I haven't managed to get a personal best. I think the big issue is the Mine's Glitch, since unless I horribly fail at it, I just move on without resets.
I guess I would do really well in Extreme marathon-runs, since I always get sub 37 or 36, but I should really try to get in the mood again, where I reset over every small mistake! Fanva-style! Cheesy

But yeah, Super Mario 3D World released last friday and I bought it today also, so DuckTales will have to step aside until I beat that game Smiley

Congratulations to Satoryu by the way!
Super Mario 3D World is still taking most of my time, but I had a smaller session on this game to get rid of rust on the edges. I'll also start to stream in Full-HD (no idea if it is fluent or laggy as s**t), but lowering the quality means I can't record in Full HD.

I am greatly looking forward to this game on AGDQ, congrats to Satoryu on being the one to run it! Radman: You can shine on the couch instead. Lets try and make this game the best in the Marathon (yeah, I know - competition is not in our favour).

I would really like to get more people into this game. I heard this game is released on physical disc in the US. Are there any chance of some of us going together and offering a Wii U + DuckTales Remastered as a price for the game?
For Fun! For GLORY!!
I never heard of a disc version. But yeah I'll talk over Satoryu constantly. Tongue
That is if I go. Odds say yes I'm still going cuz my leg isn't that bad, but you never know.

No way we're giving a Wii U as a prize for one damn game. DuckTales ain't that big. As for giving the game as a prize, it would probably be safer to give away a Steam code for it.
For Fun! For GLORY!!
Ew PC version.
Lol I kid.
The kidding is well received.  The PC runners (or more correctly former PC runners) mostly hate it as well.  I know at least myself and Cyrax feel that way, not that either one of us ever got beastly good.
@Satoryu: But think of the attention you would get while playing! Wink I'm willing to put $100 into this, but I assume the other $200 might get hard to collect for this (I think that's the cost in US).

Main reason for this comment from me, is that I like the Wii U, I like this game, and I think both gets too little attention.

Steam codes seems like supporting the wrong platform for this, and from what I read, those arent accepted as prices at the marathon. Otherwise I could get into supporting a number of those as well.
I'm getting much more consistent in my play on Extreme. Most runs are (compared to PB) @ 15s quicker after Amazon (first level), and much have to happen for me to lose time at Glumgod (normally -10s). I got to Vesuvius once today, but died to one of the rolling boulders in the darkened rooms (last one). That one do go quicker than compared to Easy, right? I've only done one serious play through on Extreme, so this was a chock for me. For next time I know. Since I don't grab any extra stuff, that meant the end for the run.

I feel confident I can shave off 20s playwise on this, but that's probably the limit to what I can do. With extreme luck I can probably get -45s compared to my PB, which would mean ~35:50 (RTA).
For Fun! For GLORY!!
Well if you want safe run through Extreme, get the heart in Himalayas. It takes 10 seconds and can save a run. Just ask Satoryu. Or you can be full noob and get them both like I do. Tongue
I thought about it, but I feel I should go "almost all in" on this one - I will learn this tight play sooner or later. I did what you're mentioning on Easy - and it took an extremely long time, to learn a little more risky strats all the time. I'm a bit ashamed that I actually died a few times on runs with five hearts.

Also, it's wasting time on the three places you're supposed to die. Lastly, that wouldn't have helped me today - since those boulders are "InstaKill".

I made it! I finally finished another run on Extreme. Really lucky at Plane and did daring strats at Amazon boss. A somewhat bad Mine Glitch and standard pattern at Dracula (and a bit cowardly play on him). All in all a solid run.

Real Time clocked in at 36:03 and IGT ended at 32:33 (a second off my Easy time). Video to come later (probably tomorrow).

Now to decide if I should stick with Extreme or do some more Easy improvement hunting...

Edit - Recorded video will be available here in a little while:

Very nice. Sub36 can definitely happen.

Good job, Guru!

I see you've started playing again and have one more second to my time. That triggered me to start playing Easy again (alongside Extreme). I feel we can trigger each other to 15-20s better times. Good luck man.

Edit: Anyone know what's new in v 1.1.1? I haven't spotted anything, so the guess is stability fixes (and maybe leaderboard crashes)?
This restarted battle made me only do Easy runs today. I got one improvement by six seconds. I lost approximately 10s to bad mistakes; 7s at Amazon boss, 3s at beginning of African Mines. A few extra (3 I think) Beagle Boys on the plane but a quite well executed Mine Glitch. I nearly reset at Dracula after getting bat pattern as first one, but didn't get it again after (what's the odds?). New Easy PB is 36:31 (Real-Time) and 32:25 (IGT).

I'm aiming to improve ten more seconds on this time. I think my "Pre Cinematic Skip" record was around 15-20s better than this run looking at pure gameplay, so that should be a realistic goal.

Other than that, I didn't notice any difference in v 1.1.1, which I see as a good sign.
@rTiimber: Yep, you thought right. I finally got a new charger and have been back at it. Unfortunately there were a couple of really good runs that were ruined by getting not one, two, but three bonus stages in each of them. Apparently I thought that having a 7 in the 5th digit mattered for the sum of the money earned in each level, but really factored from the total money after each level. Luckily, I finally figured it out. Just from experience, I find the first three worlds to be a pain. The mine glitch + the correct number of beagles is often a thorn in my side. I'm guessing the biggest difference between you and I is the better consistency you likely have when executing the mine glitch. Just out of curiosity, what is your target time range when completing the glitch, walking through and falling through the ground. I usually aim for a four minute or less time window.  My best time is 3:52 or 3:53 at that point. What about you?

On another note, do you know if it's theoretically possible to end up with 0 bat patterns? If that is the case, imagine the possibilities. Never happened to me though. But yeah, kudos on the improved time. I can imagine how comfortable I would be in the number one spot if not for you existing or vice versa. But what speed running be without a challenge, no? Good luck.

First to answer on the time until Mine Glitch. This run fell through at 3:41, but I had a 3s screw up in the beginning of the level. I would probably reset a run unless the time was below 3:50 at that point. I don't know my best total time at that point, but I've had better (I also change order between levels from time to time).

I think I am really sensitive to minor screw-ups in general, I reset way too often over a second loss or so, probably that's why your "total play time" in the game leaderboards are at +40 hours from mine  I think that I've played this game for approx. 300 active hours. But I rarely finish a run unless I can challenge my current PB with it. Just as an example - my most common reset is actually at Money Bin, missing the invisibility power up when trying to keep a good speed, which would cost a fraction of a second to wait for.

I don't know if a 0 bat pattern is possible, but I would guess it's not. I think the patterns are put in a "collection" of 6. Starting off with 1 of each, then randomised between the last three. Then this collection is randomised in order. I would think it's the same for first boss on the "globe/bust" going either high or low. Two of each are mandatory, the last one is random. African Mines the same, but with 2 of each mandatory - just that the order is random.

I would love for a pure "speedrun" option on this game. An option that always gives you 0% bad luck  (any other static % would mean current time would more or less be impossible to beat). But please - before I quit playing this game.

And yes, I love a challenge. It's just a shame it steals so much time. I will battle with you until 18th of January, after that I have a three weeks vacation and will be abroad during that period. I actually think of retiring from this game for real at that time. I know I've said it before, but this time I need it to happen. Smiley
Quite a few pages ago, 100% were mentioned. However that one was 100% for "most profitable playthrough". What would be the 100% category for SDA on this game? I can see any of these applying:

- Extreme, EVERYTHING (as the post by Mauste)
- Extreme, just health upgrades and treasures? (Not money)
- Easy, all health upgrades and the few treasures that are there

The main questions are:

Does money count towards 100%?
What is more worth, treasures (which there are more of in Extreme) or Heart upgrades (=Easy)?
@rTiimber: What are you talking about? Is there something being held regarding speed running on DuckTales for money? If so, I would love to be a part of it. As far as speed running goes, I tried but no success today. For some reason, the game is freezing after beating the Himalayas and goes to a black screen with only music playing. This never happened to me before, yet happened 3 to 4 times today. Furthermore, how do I get the version 1.1.1 because I still have version 1.1.0?
I'm talking about post #5 on this page:

https://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/new_gen_duck_tails_430.html#new_gen_duck_tails_430

Is that also the definition for 100% on SDA? If so, I'd like to give it a go. Or maybe I'll start it anyways.

According to that summary, I seem to be missing 30.000 in Amazon, but it feels like if I've scanned through the entire level. I just can't find those last 30k. I've played it through five times, but always falling short that amount. If anyone know about some tricky 30k there, please tell them to me. Smiley
