I've continued playing a bit this weekend (but focus have been Zelda: A Link between worlds). I've got two runs that were better up until Dracula, where I didn't get the one bat pattern, which is now required for me to be able to beat my PB.
I also had a couple of good first tries to a full speedrun on Extreme. I were on track for maybe 37:30 RTA (less than a minute behind my Easy time) up until Moon Boss, which I died to on the last hit. I will start running Extreme every now and then to get a change of play - since I'm now getting really tired of relying on luck for Easy Mode.
My practice just got cut a lot because of my bad leg. I even had to visit the ER for it. I think I'm set to do some full runs later this week, if my meds hold out that is.
Oh, tough Radman. Hope you can get back to full focus soon - I want to see an epic run on AGDQ (by either of you guys) and a race as bonus stream.
I'd also like to mention that I got in my first full (speed-)run on Extreme today. It was a quite sloppy run, with some extreme caution at points of low health - and probably without some of the minor "tricks" to avoid getting hit (haven't watched that many runs on Extreme). RTA clocked in at 36:39 (IGT @ 33:08). Don't really know if I will continue on Extreme, though. Mostly due to that I don't think I have it in me to cut the 35:30 (~32 minute mark IGT), which I think will be required for a #1 spot in the long run.
Wow you're a minute ahead of me. Given I am still using some safety strats, but could the difference all be from boss luck? Do you mind taking a look at my run and seeing what I can do better, rTiimber?
I think the game is optimized enough for everyone's tastes that what seperates a good run from a bad run is RNG, mainly bosses and 'Glumgod' as I call him.
I don't believe that luck was so big for me. Quite bad luck on the plane and Dracula "normal" pattern (2 of each). No safety strats more than being cautious when getting hurt (but definitely too risky for a Marathon run). I will absolutely watch your run later, but meanwhile, I'm uploading my run now - so you can also check if I happen to do anything different. I will update this post with a video when finished uploaded.
Video is currently processing, but will soon be available here:
@Satoryu, I made quick Analyse from your video, jumping a bit, compared to my run (based on my memory of it) - however Capndrakes are much more optimised. These are the bigger things:
Himalayas: - Safety heart (-8s) - Safety kill of bunny with second part (-3s) - Only 3 extra Beagles (+9s?) - After Plane, before boss (-3s) African Mines: - Safety life (-8s) - Mine Glitch (~25s) - This is the BIG difference (even if it's not my best, I'm consistent at atleast 15s quicker than the one you got in this run) - Eaten by a lovely flower (-4-5s) Amazon: - Gave up a life at Olmec :), and gained some time at the following riskier strat (-5s) Transsylvania: - Missed hit on Ghost Beagle (-4s) Moon: - Boss missed quick cycles (-5s) (think I missed some too) Vesuvius: - Better pattern, a bit less good execution (+12s) - Dies once on escape (-5s)
I believe in general (these things excepted, you run was quite even to mine in time wasted - I would even think yours was more optimised)
It is nice to hear everybody's updated progress. Unfortunately I am still without a working charger and therefore cannot speed run at the moment. I am currently working on college homework and playing Megaman Unlimited. I dare anybody hear to beat that game because it is difficult. Download it free online.
Nah. Still playing roms of X4-X6. My leg is feeling super better now. Probably by the end of the week I'll be good to run again, and stream.
X4 is awesome and one of my favorite Megaman games. Any chance I can race the best of the best speed runners on Ducktales( Wii U) version? We could hold a best of three format tournament for speed runners. What do you think? On a side note, it appears that ebay sales Wii U chargers for cheap.
I thought SRL had a season of DT:R races going at one time. THis was back when the game first came out, so I dunno how active it still is, but yeah. I would, but my net is terrible now for some reason. It's hard for me to stream at times. I could try once my leg is good.
Sup guys, havent played at all the last 2 months or so and thought I'd give it a try. Seeing as the records lowered quite a bit since last time.
Loaded up the game and to my surprise the game was slightly faster, like you know the game runs different speeds on different PC's etc. And with faster I mean fucking stupidly fast. It was to fast to control pretty much, but I pushed on and finished the run. Got a new RTA PB by 17,6 seconds. Consider this though.
I died roughly 25times during the run. Old routes on easy but not normal map order. No mineskip.
Check these splits: http://imgur.com/L9LrKZL Lost ~7 mins on duckula cus it was to hard to control scrooge and hit bats etc. Doing 2 instead of 5 on the yellow was impossible for me.
thats not really the issue. the thing is that the game was so fast I couldnt move precisely at all, cus one second pressing left would make me go all screen on duckula for example. notice i got a minus 9minute split before mt vesuvious and then lost those 9 on duckula. if it wasnt for me dying a million times on duckula i would have gotten an RTA of about 27 min on easy with old routes
How did you die 20 times on dracula? I think after 5 you'd be doing it safer. o.o
And to save them you have to turn on archive broadcasts on Settings.
I watched his first run and his game was incredible fast and that is putting it mildly. I would estimate that the game runs at least 5 times faster than normal.
He played it somewhat safe, but when you have less than half a second to react to something, you tend to make mistakes. For example being able to jump on even one bat in the Dracula fight was challenging, so you can guess how hard it was to bounce off from two. Not to mention the climb to the Number One Dime is very hard as well!
Just open his stream now to see the speed of his game, it's his second attempt ( http://www.twitch.tv/fanva ). EDIT: he finished the run with 30:15 RTA and there were dozens of deaths again
PS: The boss fights are so awesome with his game's speed (especially the Amazon boss). WayForward should add an extra difficulty where the bosses go that fast!
Failed I think 4-5 times on duckula, died 5-6 times on himalaya and once on all other levels, maybe twice on trans no mineskip, failed moonskip once, safe chainroute etc etc
