I might be hated for this, but after a run today, I currently simutlaneously occupy the 2nd and 3rd spots on the Wii U leaderboards with times of 34:01 and a 34:05 respectively. I am proud to say that when I began speed running I never would've dreamed I would've even reached the top five, let alone the 3rd and 2nd places. My final task is to usurp( or at least try) Timber and claim my place at the top of the leaderboards. I feel like if everything falls into place and I don't make mistakes, I should be able to pass 33:47 and then some. However, that's easier said than done. One thing I still speculate is whether extreme registers times on the Wii U leaderboards? Can anybody explain why hard difficulty didn't register my time on my first run through, but easy did on my second run through? Otherwise I feel like I'm wasting my time doing runs on extreme if there is possibility that that difficulty is not registering.
@Satoryu: I"ve gotten pretty good on extreme and would be interested to race you for the marathon. What do I do to be a part of it?
It sometimes doesn't register my faster times as well, but I think the problem we found was skipping the final cutscene too quickly.
And I'll answer for him. It's too late to run at the marathon. Satoryu and I, and all the other runners of other games, signed up months ago for it. If you still want to race him, I'm sure he'd be game. If you do, let me know when and where. I wanna watch it. :3
A few more runs have gone down the drain. I had one 5s improvement on the way, but lost it by missing to jump up the beak of big Dracula.
I have started to go with Himalayas as first level, since it has the biggest risk of screwing me over, Mine Glitch is normally more consistent for me now, and only occasionally destroys a run. Moon Skip have started to be a pain in the ass also, so I do that level third. The rest can vary 2-5s each at most, but almost never make a run a failure.
As for the marathon, I really hope that the game is played during a good time of the day in Sweden, so I can watch and make donations during that run. I still think that Easy should be the difficulty in the Marathon, since that will show the quick reactions required for getting the "M"-invulnerability as well as not being screwed over by single mistakes at the same time of using more damage boosts. Btw, have anyone suggested making a race (2- or 3-way) for Bonus Stream?
@Guru: Nice progress. Just be aware that every second is even more of a struggle from now on, but the more rewarding feeling for each time you can shave one off, and the more irritating when losing one.
I'll start my second round of attempts soon, hope I can finally manage getting sub 37:40 (33:40 IGT).
I made a really great run. At the start of Vesuvius, I was 17s ahead on my PB (where I lost 6s by dying just after he mid-way point). I made a small mistake at Dracula (-2s) - but guess what? For the 3rd time of the last four runs going this far - I get three bat patterns. So instead of being ~17s ahead, I ended up with 1s behind.

Mike said he wants an Extreme incentive, which Satoryu and I are offering. I too would prefer to run Easy since I'm more used to it. The only reason I'm learning a route for Extreme is the marathon itself, and it takes all the safety measures imaginable. If Satoryu is picked to run over me, I'd push for Extreme since he is far more experienced in it.
The game is scheduled to run at 4:45 AM the first 'morning' of the marathon (the 6th). I know Mauste is in perfect time slot to watch it, not sure about Sweden but I think it's close too.
And if Satoryu's game and even staying that long, I'll be up for a race. Again, with two runners almost the same, it's more about who's luckier. :3

@rTiimber: I feel your pain. The 34:05 time that I recently recorded could've featured three less fang bites had I jumped on it successfully and one fall when climbing up to get the number one dime. My 34:01 time featured six extra beagles on the plane segment. I speculate I would've gotten number one on that run had I gotten perfect plane luck. Does anybody know how many seconds are added for each additional fang bite and extra beagle?

Well, honestly - the Beagle Boys are early on in the game, and I accept a reset at this point any time. And my PB is also including four extra Beagle Boys. The run I had yesterday still had two extra. And also, I feel you can't really compare Extreme and Easy times, even if the leaderboards does it.
On Dracula, this pattern is pure bad luck, which destroys an entire run (18s is having a HUGE impact), in the last parts of the run. Sure, missing the fang jump is also bad, but is something that can be avoided by skill.
Edit: The Marathon run is scheduled 11:45 (AM) in my local time, which seems quite good. Expect donations at that time from my part.
Edit 2: Here's my run, that could've been the new #1:
I start to think my Wii U is haunted right now. Today I have gotten two good runs so far, one with 6s and one with 9s ahead of my PB up until Dracula. Both of them gave me the worst patten (3 bat batterns each) - meaning I rage quitted both times at that point.
It is supposed to be random, right? Not something to punish you for getting good times up until that point?
Edit: Btw, congrats Guru on your improved time, only 8s more to beat my time (which I hope to beat by 10-20s myself soon)

@rTiimber: Thanks, and by the way my newest improved time is 33:50 which is three seconds off your time. Out of all the many runs I've completed, I've only gotten the one bat battern two or three times total( when my runs weren't the greatest anways). But wow, two consecutive three bat patterns! That has never happened to me in my whole ducktales remastered playing career. I swear though, today I was one missed ghost jump away from taking the number one spot( not to mention to missed jumps on Splinter, one unecessary cane wack in the moon and world and bad Yeti luck respectively). In any advent, what often kills me is my inconsistency with the third and fourth blocks on the mine glitch. I used to be more consistent with the third block, but falter now for some reason. In any case, good luck on bettering your time. You're peak is greater than mine.
@Radman: Timber and I are still waiting for you to crack the top five on the leaderboards. I'd love you to join us as another rival.
@CapnDrake: Your PC times are awesome! I'd like to see you speed run on the Wii U to see where you you stand in our universe.

So, I've concluded that this game hates me. First run, me being ahead 22s. I missed Moon Glitch. Still ahead by 12s, then this happens:
(the last ghost didn't really hit me, but the game apparently thought so)
Second good run, I was ahead 7s - this happens:
(A new first crash for me at this point)
It might be worth mentioning that this is the last level before Vesuvius in my route, which means I've been playing approximately 30 minutes into both of these videos.
Edit: I'm honestly considering giving up on this game - even if I know I can improve Easy with 15-20s, and would like to attempt Extreme after that - but I'm simply getting way too mad at this game, more than I would like myself.
A request from the programmers: Please FIX this game for the speedrunners. I'm a programmer myself and I wouldn't want this kind of crashes and bugs exist - and wouldn't be proud of the product (not talking about my first video in this post - I understand the concept of collision detection). I hope the studio has some pride in their work and allows this to get fixed.
For all I know they're too busy working on Shantae to fix this. Oh, and a request 'FROM' the programmers? If you're asking J Rat, he's now with WayForward anymore, so... I dunno who you're asking that to. X3
And I've had some rage issues with the game before, but I still like it. The best you can do is shrug it off and keep grinding.
Yeah sorry guys, wish I could help. I really haven't talked much with the WF guys lately, but you're probably right about them being busy with Shantae or maybe some other unannounced projects (I'm not hinting at anything, I really have no idea).

@rTiimber: lol, the ducktale gods must be with me and want me destined for 1st place, if I can get there though. I'm a little suprised that you mess up the moon glitch because that's one of the easiest things to do in a run IMO. Hopefully developers do fix these technical issues that are nightmares to speed runners.
I take back everything bad I've ever said about this game. All of these 3 bat patterns had to even out in the end. I finally got one bat pattern in a solid run, and slaughtered my old PB. The video is encoding right now, and the RTA is ~37:18 (or possibly 37:19). IGT is set to 33:18. Both of these meaning that I shaved off 29s of the WR.
From what I remember of the run, I got caught by a plant once (+4-5s) and I missed one quick cycle on the Moon rat (must've been off by a split second), I think there were also two extra Beagle Boys in it on the plane. Mine Glitch was OK, but not good. A runner with extreme luck and Mine Glitch skill, can probably get 37:00 (or 33:00 IGT) in this game - but then all have to fall in place really neatly.

I LOVE THIS GAME!
@rTiimber: Congrats on the improved time! So are you saying it's possible to get a sub 33 on a run? That would be amazing!
I've watched my run again, trying to criticise myself as much as I can, and looking for improvements. The ones I saw are:
- Moon Boss, missed a quick cycle: ~2.5s lost - Eaten by a plant at Amazon (first time at this specific one): ~4s lost - Missed one early hit on Amazon Boss: 1s lost - Bad luck with hitting Magicas Mirror, and her spawning locations: 3s lost - Didn't want to risk missing Dracula, awaited all bats for the first three hits: ~2s lost - Missed hitting Dracula on first bat for his high pattern: ~0.5s lost - Chickened out at the final escape, to not do "the jump": ~1-2s lost.
And the ones in general, which is hardest to improve during a run:
- 2 extra Beagle Boys: ~7s lost - Can improve Mine Glitch: ~8s lost - Other possible minor gameplay improvements: ~8s lost
So in theory, I'd say it's possible to improve my run by around 35s (in that case meaning 36:43 RTA / 32:43 IGT) - but then EVERYTHING needs to get perfect. From Mine Glitch, Beagle Boys luck, Dracula pattern, and of course, making 0 mistakes. The worst thing is of course having to find out if you're lucky enough at around 36 minutes to get the optimal Dracula pattern.
A more realistic aim (if I decide to continue running this game) is to cut off another 10s - more than that is probably out of my league.
I will need to take a break from this game for a little while (at least from speedrunning it) - but I will start practicing Extreme, especially Hard Pogo. If I see that I'm not horrible at it, I will probably give that a go for a while (with a separate account - since I still want to separate the IGT for both of them).
The run have finally uploaded to Youtube (I don't really know how YouTube works, I guess the 1080p will come after a bit more processing?):
Edit: On a sidenote, I've started practicing for Extreme. I will try to not take it seriously yet. Today, I just started out with practicing Hard Pogo and doing a Hard run with a new profile, to unlock Extreme. I am not at all having troubles with the Hard Pogo, but have some issues with not taking stupid hits on some levels (Amazon and Transsylvania mostly). Might do a full run tomorrow to try it out.
I was traveling and when I got home, my modem broke and I was without Internet for ~4 days. Couldn't run the game, because of Steam's retarded offline mode, but at least I finally finished Wind Waker HD 100% legitly without any walkthroughs! I still haven't bought DuckTales: Remastered for the Wii U, and for now I want to do a couple of runs on the PC to shake off the "rust"
PS: I am again idling in #Ducksneverdie in IRC, if someone wants to come and chat. I recommend highlighting me, because that way I notice the message fastest (highlighting means that you type my nick somewhere to the message. For example: Hi Mauste or Are you there Mauste?). Otherwise it might take me up to ~10-15 minutes to notice the message. If I don't answer after that, I am most likely afk
I've made a couple of started attempts on Extreme runs, but I feel I'm not quite there yet to last the full game - always some simple mistake, making me die, and unintentional dying will cause resets.
I feel I might have a sub 39 (35 IGT) run within a week, and hopefully can cut another minute or two within another week. Then starts the battle of the target: 36:30 (32:30 IGT). I might still drop off at any time, but atleast that's my aim for the upcoming period of time.
