Hi everybody.
I really love the great work that goes into AGDQ and SGDQ, and I thought it might be a good idea to do a charity fundraiser for charity:water (http://www.charitywater.org/about/mission.php)
We all take many things for granted in our lives in the first world, like clean drinking water. The first game fundraiser I ever saw was just a group of Austrailian's playing bad games to raise money for this chairty, which led me to watching let's plays, which led me to speedruns, which got me to start speedrunning myself.
The charity is very welcoming to donations and working with people who want to do campaigns, so that helps a lot too.
I don't want to compete with any of the other fine events already planned, and it may take quite a while to get everything arranged, so it may be a year or more before the event will actually happen. I would rather do it right than to do it rushed. I have a lot of knowledge of computers (CS degree), so I'll start working on a restreaming server. I don't expect people to be able to all come together in the same physical location.
I'm not asking anybody to commit to anything right now, but rather, I am just feeling out the interest among the community.
The game list would be based on who was willing to run and what games they can do, but I'm thinking about the more iconic games that are good for speedrunning.
Zelda games
Mario Games
Disney Games (Duck Tales, Talespin, Darkwing Duck, RR 1 & 2)
Mega Man games
Metroid
Castlevania games
...
You get the idea.
