I'm looking for a good SD and HD capture device, and have been leaning towards Elgato, but I want to see if I can get any recommendations. For example, something that can go from the NES to Wii U without much problems, if such a thing is out there.

If not, then I do have a Dazzle, but no key since I switched from Win7 32bit to Win8.1 64bit and lost the packaging and other stuff a while ago.

To be short and to the point, I'm looking for help/advice.

I use the AverMedia C027 capture card, which does composite, s-video, component, and HDMI. If you have a free PCI-e slot in a desktop, that's the way to go.

Depends what hardware situation you are in and what you actually intend to do. The Elgato is great but since you mentioned NES it currently has recording problems with retro consoles (I should say this only affects SDA submissions). I'm not sure what Elgato has planned here but it might be worth looking into: https://www.elgato.com/en/elgatonext (If I was to guess it's going to be a 1080p60 HDMI device that strips out Component/Composite/S-Video capability).

The Aver is okay but right now the ultimate somewhat cheap combo is a PEXHDCAP for Component/HDMI (among other things you might want in the future like VGA) and a GV-USB2 for Composite and S-Video. If you only have a laptop then the substitute is an Elgato for Component/HDMI (it's basically an external PEXHDCAP using the same chips) and keep the GV-USB2/wait till Elgato addresses the issue.

I'm not sure what you mean by intend to do, but I think I know what you mean. I'm just planning on streaming/recording games.

As far as tech goes, I can list some main specs here:

Processor: Intel i7 3770k
Video card: AMD Radeon 7777 HD
Mobo: ASUS P8Z77-LK

Also, I saw what Elgato's new hardware was, and it looks cool for more modern stuff, but not exactly what I was hoping for. Ah well. Currently, I'm looking at the AverMedia card, and I just need to take a look inside my PC later tonight to see if I have the space. Thanks for the suggestions, guys!
