It's nothing more than clicking really fast. I just have to get the route imprinted into memory. Not so easy as I though, but with enough practice, definitely possible.
While reading this thread a few days ago I felt an urge to play good ol' realMyst again. RealMyst is a total remake of the old Myst game in realtime 3D with exactly the same puzzles and also a new age called Rime. Then, while playing around with it a little, I thought; why not speedrun it ?
So, after some running and playing around I've recorded two test videos that I wanted to share; Stoneship Age and Mechanical Age.
Some notes: * The controls in this game can be quite disturbing at times; clicking with the left mouse button does not only use things, it also moves you forward if you misses. * Strafing while running makes the player move very fast, which can be hard to control too since it's difficult to see where you're going.
HAHA. Nice. I missed most of your post, and for the first few minutes I was really confused because everything pointed to you playing Myst, not Myst V. Then a few moments later I was thinking, "My version of Myst had static 2D images."
Needless to say I was very confused until you got to the end and saved and I saw the name. I had heard of realMyst in passing, vaugely, but thought it was a different game that was never made. I will have to check that version out.

Hehe. Maybe I should have explained it I've edited my previous post to clarify it a little.
I've played through the game now a couple of times and did a recording of the latest run. The total time was 35:45 single-segment, including intro and loading times and at least a minute with mistakes It will be redone until I can get the "pianopuzzle" done in my sleep, but if anyone want to see the work in progress I can upload the video.
There were 2 things I noticed that would maybe make the route a little bit faster. My memory is a bit hazy of this game so I could be wrong with something
When you start the game activate Rime right away so that after you met Atrus, you don't need to walk to that beginning room to activate Rime but instead you can immediately go to that age. If this is possible that is.
When you're going to activate the Stoneship Age, I think it would be faster to activate the Mechanical Age immediately after activating the Stoneship Age.
He phantasy: Which codec do you use for the video? Which program have you used for the recording?
You should use Camtasia with XVid Codec(quality 4), 56KBit/s sound mp3. With this settings you should get 640x480 with awesome video quality and really good sound quality under 150MB. Just for your next movie.
Thanks ! And also thanks for the improvement tips ! It is possible to activate Rime in the beginning which should be a nice timesaver, I never thought about that.
I've been thinking a little about the activation-order of the ages too. If I run through Channelwood once first, then activate Stoneship Age, Selentic Age door and then Mechanical Age and then back to Channelwood it would remove the need to go down that way the rest of the run.
I'm also thinking about randomizing the order to visit the ages to pick up the pages, like visit one age and pick up the red page, then visit another age and pick up a blue page, then back and pick up the remaining blue page. It might make the run a bit more enjoyable

Thanks for the tip I could try that and see how it'll turn out.
I recorded that video with Fraps at 1152x864 with 30 FPS and then used VirtualDub to resize and compress it with X264 / MP3.
I have seen your video now. Really really nice, I like it.
Now after I have seen it, i have to say that a record with fraps is a must, because camtasia is only able to record with 15 frames per second and this is too low.
The sound of the video can be better. As I know now, the audio will not take much file size, so you can try to choose real good audio quality. In Camtasia I used 56KBit/s of MP3 Sound and it did really affect the file size.
I am looking forward to your video.
Maybe you can try to compress your video after recording with fraps with camtasia and XVid, or directly with Virtual Dub and Divx. If you need a tutorial for camtasia, you will find it on my website on http://www.adventure-speedruns.com in the menu point rules at the bottom of the site.
