It sounded a lot better in my head. Now that the rules have been released but the groups haven't what I meant was would a beginner be matched with someone of, say, your skill level? You don't need to answer since the groups will be released next week, but that's what I was trying to say.

In each round-robin group, everyone will play everyone else within their group. Then, the person with the best record will progress to the double elimination tournament, and the person (or people if multiple are tied) who finish second will compete in the big race on August 8th to try and break into the double elim bracket. This means that you're likely to run into at least one person of a 'higher' skill level during one of your four group matches.

Ah, right, OK. I get it now. Thanks for clearing that up.

There will be players of varying skill level in each group. I will be contacting everybody who signed up for the tournament confirming their entry too, just so that the groups can be confirmed by Elmagus. Should be happening today!

Oh. Just throwing this out here as well, if nobody has any splits prepared, I've made some for LiveSplit which they can download here.
Quick edit: I've also made a WSplit counterpart.

As of the 27th June I have sent everybody (59 players) who has signed up a message on either Skype or Twitch confirming their entry, just so we can minimize damage to groups in case there are late dropouts. You don't need to add me back on Skype, just send me a message back confirming that you are good to go. Cheers
If anyone has been on the fence, just a friendly reminder that signups close tomorrow!
I'm on the fence, and I'll probably be on the fence until the end of the tournament. Good luck all!

Final warning, signups will close at 6PM EDT June 30th! This is midnight for our overlord group maker and gives him enough time to get groups finalized before we kick off the next day.

Speaking of that kickoff, 24 hours after signups close, the opening race will be held at 6PM EDT July 1st here: http://twitch.tv/the_roth Only the runners themselves and eLmaGus know who is opening for the tournament, and I'm sure it'll be a good one! Groups will also be announced during the opener, so you definitely don't want to miss it.

We need confirmations from the following people who have signed up but we have not been able to contact:
caista19
captrigger
ksfz
riversmccown

If your name is in the list, please contact either me, the_roth, eLmaGus, catastrophic4, or reply here to confirm your participation. Failure to do so may and probably will result in losing your tournament entry!
50 minutes left to sign up!

Also, if you have signed up but not confirmed, please get with the_roth, neerrm, or me (catastrophic4) ASAP, or reply to this thread.

Thanks
Entries are now closed! Thank you to everyone who entered and to everyone who verified your entry.
Good luck to all the entrants!  Cool seeing the interest in FF4 again.

I would have loved to participate if I wasn't travelling several times in August.
Dapper as fuck.
Oh man I'm super stoked for this.

The tournament starts today Cheesy

Thanks to everybody who confirmed their entry. There will be a stream on my Twitch page (the_roth) at 5:30 pm EST today which will cover all of the rules and schedules along with a kickoff race between two mystery racers! Who could they be??? Not even I know! (I lied, I may know one of them. If you do know though, please stay silent to increase the hype!)

Hi, I need confirmation from the following people as to whether they are still participating in the tournament or not:
Hoodedornament
Stradosspheare
Jiseed

If you have contacted your group recently then great, but otherwise you run the risk of losing your tournament entry if we don't hear from you in the next 2 days. Thanks
Mysidia Mayhem is well underway now! We've updated the group spreadsheet with a place where you can easily find scheduled upcoming races here. Current standings can be found on this doc as well. There are many more matches to come, so be sure to check it out!
When in dooubt Blitz it out!
Just wanted to thank the big people for setting up this race.  I hope I give a good show during my races.  Smiley

You got me for racing.  I hope I did it within the final day.  Apologies I did not see this thread sooner.

Hey no worries man, all good. All the best for your race on Thursday, if you'd like me to add you into Skype, PM me and I can add you!

I am hoping it is not against the rules to do an Internet reset 15 minutes before the race.  AKA, hoping Cablevision/Verizon ect. don't troll me and my Internet crashes while I race.  Has anyone else posted this?  I did not see this on the earlier thread.  What are the rules for if that should happen?  I will be recording my races anyway to see where if any part of it, I went wrong.

a record of the race is appreciated obviously, should your internet cut out completley we have to handle it case-by-case, meaning everything in a range from rematch to forfeiting is in place depending on the circumstances. We do make sure however that somebody from the admin staff is there to observe the race and everything will be handled fair and probably in favor for the person with the disconnect, so you shouldnt be too worried about it.

What Elmagus said. You'll have OBS recordings that can be uploaded or restreamed if things go south so you at least have proof of what happened. If it comes to that though you could try phone Skyping to contact your racer (if possibe) and at least be on air with them while you race offline (if you can't get back on at all your phone will still have internet). But yeah, case by case is the key phrase here.

Hi all,

It's great to see so many tournament and practice races going on! Final Fantasy 4 even got into the top 20 games raced on SRL during the first week of the tournament (18th ish?), which is awesome Cheesy

The 18th is approaching rapidly, which is the first deadline; you all need 2 races completed by then. If you have not done this by then without notifying any of the admin PRIOR to the 18th (you know who you are, and so do we) there may be consequences - we want to avoid people playing their matches all at once at the end. Please see that you organise races as soon as possible if you have not yet done so. Thanks, and good luck.
102 races later, and we are done with the group stages! Thanks to everyone who has made this tournament an overwhelming success so far!

Up next, we have 15 hopefuls duking it out for the final 3 spots in the double elimination bracket! They are:
Brossentia
CreativeEly
Fathlo23
Fyreball13
Jenja23
Khobahi
Nocashnocash
Parlelian
Philosoraptor42
Rislyeu
RotomPoison
Riversmccown
Rynzer
ThatsFairZack
TheSabin

This race will take place this Saturday, August 8th, on twitch.tv/rpglimitbreak with festivities beginning at 5 PM EST!

What a first week of finals... of the top 8 top seeds, only 4 made it through to the second round of the winner bracket - the other 4 have been put into the losers bracket including 2 of the top 3 qualifiers! Even sub 1:01 Paladin times are losing times, which would've been unheard of last year and shows how far the game has come. It isn't enough to simply execute well - you need lady luck on your side if you want to win! This week's highlight was neerrm beating jenja23 by a whole second!

This week's matches are:

Winner Bracket
Essentiafour vs Sylasha - Aug 19th, 10pm EST
FeralPigMan vs Riversmccown - Aug 19th, 10pm EST
Neerrm vs Parqbench - Aug 20th, 10pm EST
Fathlo23 vs Grieverlionheart - Aug 22nd, 6pm EST

Loser Bracket
The_Roth vs StarofViolence - Aug 18th 9pm EST (Played)
Obdajr vs Jiseed - Aug 19th 10pm EST
Crumps2 vs Bichphuongballz - Aug 20th, 11pm EST
Jenja23 vs Catastrophic4, Aug 21st 7pm EST

All the best with your matches!

Edit: -Just to make things transparent about the Mimic glitch (TrashCan/Carrot usage):
- Trashcan/Carrot, i.e. the mimic glitch with the Twins is fine only in races where both players agreed to it previously
- You cannot change your decision re: Trashcan/Carrot during the double elimination stage
- If one person in a race has opted to NOT use the trashcan/carrot glitch then it is banned for that race. Anyone who uses it in such a race will automatically forfeit.
