Hey everyone, this is my first post on these forums, I've created my own signature (which I hope works) and avatar using GIMP for these forums, so I don't plan to post and run :P. Well, if by "run" you mean "speedrun" then yes.

Ever since I first played Half Life with my dad when I was around 5 or 6, I've always had a knack of just getting through levels quickly, after years and years of this I've found myself speedrunning the level, I learned how to boxjump in half life 2 and bunnyhop without scripts (still working on the bunnyhopping..)

So I've finally decided to try and speedrun a game.

I need YOUR help in what game I should choose for my first run, something fairly easy.

I like playing by the rules, and I don't necessarily go against level skipping and warping, I just find that if I'm trying to go for the best time no matter what I do, then level skipping all the way, but if I want a clean run, no glitches, then fine.

So, what do you guys think?

I think you're posting in the tech support forum without a tech support question.  This would have been better in gaming discussion I believe, but since you're here, why not try your hand at Half-Life since you seem to enjoy it.

There's a requested speedrun list here: http://speeddemosarchive.com/forum/index.php/topic,541.0.html
and a bounty thread here: http://speeddemosarchive.com/forum/index.php/topic,8815.0.html

See if you can help out on any games currently being run by trying out some strategies for the runner(s).  Competition is always healthy as long as you stay civil, so welcome and I hope you enjoy yourself.

you should do a run of a game that appeals to you, if there is an existing run, do your best to find a way to beat that run

also as ZR said, wrong section to ask in ... (Tech Support is for technical issues)

Ah, sorry about posting it in the wrong section, I mis-read the subtitle of the forum :S.

Half-Life, I've watched the speedrun of it many times and it just leaves me in awe, I've also listened to the commentary, I guess I could try a run of it, after all, I don't HAVE to do everything the same as Spider-Waffle did.

Thanks for the support and making me feel welcome though, I guess I could try a run of Blue Shift or Opposing Force since those are kind of Expansion Games and are significantly shorter, I've seen the speedrun of blue shift and it doesn't seem as hard as HL.

Or I could speedrun lost coast...

You've made me start thinking now!

Thanks again,

don't forget to take into consideration if a game is run in a single segment or if it's segmented.  Also, doing it without the use of scripts would be a separate category, so that's another avenue to go.

Definitely, I might try an SS Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force...
