The entire Contra III run.
If the video will have a credits sequence, might I suggest "Livin' on the Edge" by Aerosmith?
"(Highway to the) Danger Zone" perhaps?
"Knockin' on Heaven's Door" might be a good one.

Edit:  Bah, Putfile ain't working.  I'll figure it out.

Edit Edit:  Didn't want to, but it looks like I'm using Filefront.

Anyways, this is my Vergil 1 fight that's making its way into the DMC3  Royal Guard US Normal Run that I'm working on.  In the mission, my guarding's been... decent, though I had trouble guarding in the second half from the Crystal Skull room and up.  However, it's still very fast and it's one of my better times through the level.

I start the fight with 5500 HP and within seven seconds from some bad blocks on my part, I'm down to 300-400 HP easy.  Then... perfect just guards.  Not just guards, which net you small amounts of damage, but consistent perfect just guards.  It's beautiful.

Yeah, the sound de-synchs at around 40 seconds in, but I can't capture it again after spending 25 minutes trying to get back to my spot on the tape where I can start recording again.  Meh.  I'll provide a new fixed version if it's requested by Aqua.

I'll get around to that one eventually, Psychochild.

Anyway, with my recent computer troubles, getting this done might take a bit.  I still can guarantee before Christmas, but it's gonna be close.

Also, a new moment I'd like to log is from the new Crystalis run.  I'll watch the exact moment soon and cite the time it happens (unless someone beats me to it), but in his comments Dragondarch cites a spot where he needed to earn some experience and managed to get dropped down to 5 HP while doing it.

He kind of did it twice: in Mt. Sabre South and in the Kirisa Plant Cave.  The funny thing about the second one is that he got poisoned, so he started rushing so he didn't get killed by the poison.  What he forgot was that he actually had an antidote, so all of his cold sweat and nervousness was for nothing (although I don't think he was as low on HP on that one).  Or those might be backwards...

Ah, Mt. Sabre South is the one I'd been thinking of.

Anyway, I've realized there's a bunch of moments from Prism's God of War run (it's on archive.org, but won't be on SDA due to what I thought I heard was privacy-related issues..... oh well) that could qualify, although in the interests of fairness I'm going to find just one that works exceptionally well.
Hello SDA community, I go by Stryker.  I'm new to the community, I never heard about speed running until I got into the Resident Evil games.  I was OBSESSED with RE4 when it first came out and played it non-stop for 3 months... one night my friends challenged me to beat it using special weapons as fast as I could, and I did it in 2:30.  I thought it was so fast and so cool that I went online to see if anyone had ever put up a "world-record speed runs" site to see how close I was.  I came upon this site, and I love it.  I am proud to say that I had a 2:16 run of RE4, at the time it was better than the one on the site.  By the time I had the means to record it to my PC to try and send, the 1:59 run came out.  Bravo!

This might be noobish for me to say, since I haven't watched many of the demos on here or in this list, but I didn't see the Mario for NES run mentioned, and I almost fainted watching it.

Actually, looking that run (I assume you mean the 'with warps' run) over, I did indeed find some stuff that looks pretty daring.  In fact, the only two levels where I could NOT find the kind of daring moment I was hoping to find are 1-1 and 4-2.

....will someone explain to me why we overlooked this?

Pocari mentioned it on the bottom of page 3.

Eh, tells me how much I've been paying attention.
Sure does.
Ya, I figured someone mentioned it.  Mario 2 (with warps) also has great stuff if it was overlooked.

I definitely think that this video should be produced.  Gamers love watching other talented gamers.  And some of the most exciting, dramatic gaming comes during speed runs.  The close calls, the dangerous decisions, etc.  Someone should get moving.  Cheesy

Yeah well, neither of you were paying attention; I mentioned the run before Pocari.  Lol, yes I know it's irrelevant, and no one cares...

Actually, I'm posting because I'd like to nominate Brightstar's Megaman II [GB] run.  At 1:35+, he is knocked to 1 unit of hp (I think) by Cutman.

BTW, how's it coming Aquatiger?

How do you think segmenting factors into this? The FF2 SNES run I'm doing is daring moment after daring moment, but it's heavily segmented of course. I was still nervous as all hell while doing it though. Maybe it's not quite as daring for the player compared to a SS, but for the in-game characters, it's very daring indeed.

Actually, that's my MM1 run.

Naturally, I think the best "Death Defying Moments" arise in the single segment runs due to the fact that you often will see the player desperately improvise to prevent the death and see all these mistakes that in a player's right mind would NEVER appear in a heavily segmented speed run.

..... My latest project being the exception.  Damn hardcore action games!  Every single mission I did was improvised like hell!  You can't really plan ass kickery!  Anyways, I imagine a segmented run that relies on being on the edge of death could also apply, but I imagine that it's always the case when doing a low level RPG run.

My bad Suzaku.  I named the file MM2 because... *sigh*... you know, it's a long, uninteresting story. Nevermind.

Regardless, I thought your fight with Cutman should be nominated.

Well, thank you. Though, I could argue that it wasn't daring, more sloppy. ^^

It's not here at SDA (it's at archive), but the end of part 3 of my No Boss Mini Boss run on Super Metroid is of me going through Lower Norfair without the Varia or the Gravity Suits, and I make it into the save room with 2 energy.  Go heat damage!  That may qualify?

I was scared like a little girl while just completing my SS Ico run. I'm not sure there was anything particularly daring from others' viewpoints, but it certainly felt daring to me as a whole.
Never give up!
I hate to say this, but since I'll have to be very busy today with other stuff, this project will have to wait.

Hopefully I won't have to delay this past New Year's Day, but please, bear with me on this.

You still suck.

Daring?  Any run without a daring moment is a boring run.  Tongue

I said I didn't know if there were any particularly daring moments, but any no-death SS 2hour run with platforming is going to be daring by nature. But thinking about it, there are quite a bit of daring moments. I don't know what I was thinking when I said that. I wouldn't have been able to get a good time if I wasn't shaving time off everywhere.

If you didn't know much about the game, every time Yorda jumps would be a daring moment indeed.

OMG SHE'S GONNA FALLLLLLLLLL....PHEW.

That made everyone's first playthrough much scarier. Also thinking that the shadows coming as mostly random. Whenever I had to leave Yorda for even a while, I would be dreading that sound. Also when I beat the game the first time, I didn't realize the game let you continue from each of the Ico section screens, instead of just the normal doors and sofas. So since I did the entire end section without dying, it was stressful beyond belief.
