All this talk has made me want to try this game out. I got the GOTY edition at Target today for 19.99. It came with the two expansions as well. Can anyone suggest a class I should start as? I'm having trouble deciding and I don't want to pick something that ends up being weak.
Try a Nord with the class of rogue or warrior or something of the such and the sign of tower if you want to be able to break into peoples homes once a day.
*Note* That is of course if you prefer hitting people to death as opposed to magic.
The problem with class choosing is that you simply need to match your skills to how you like playing. I seem to recall that I started playing the game as various classes (pretty quickly going for my own custom class), before I knew what was going on. I think I settled on a warrior breton for a reasonable base on which to expand in other directions. It was a bit trial and error.
For the speed run I chose the argonian assassin because it was the most optimised class I could find for the skills I want, and I couldn't afford the time to customise. Plus I didn't really have a choice but to go for the Steed sign
I started fooling around with an Argonian rogue class with The Shadow as my sign. I think I might start over and be a thief because I'd like to be able to open some of these chests I have come across.
Heh, there's always more than one way to skin a lock. You could try the "open" spell, or try fortify luck/intelligence with a lockpick means you can pick locks with next to no skill.
I used the fortify approach in my earlier runs, until I got to the point where I didn't need to pick any locks. For the one door I do have to open, I think I'll try using an open scroll in the 'next' run.
Heh, famous for having "no life" eh? Guess you've gotta expect that when you have one of those "can it be done?" moments. My original target was to complete it in under 3 hours, I was quite surprised it took so little time in the end.
As for smoothness, well I have a fairly respectable PC. Plus you've got to remember it was only filmed at 25fps which isn't high by any standards. I also reduced my screen res to 800x600 (though admittedly I did turn FSAA on to make it look more pleasant). Finally, due to an unexplained quirk of the transfer from tv-out to tv-in, there is a lot of motion blur on the recorded frames which looks crap if you freeze frame, but is completely unnoticeable when played in real-time.
Hello, I've just seen the (as far as I know) last morrowind speedrun, the one with the game done in 14 mins, it was awesome. But I have a littla question. (pls don't shoot me if it was answered already) You see on our local morrowind forum we have a discussion on the speedrun. We all have computers of different age and power (mine is a real crap, actually) and we're always experiencing the endless loading when moving between cells. But in this vid there's not a frame of the loading screen. Were the loading sreens cut out? Do the rules allow it? I've read the rules but didn't find anything that would allow or forbid this (maybe it's just I'm such a dumbass I didn't get it) So is it cut out or does the guy have such powerful hardware that it loads instantly? thx
The loading screens are cut out, because they take different amounts of time depending on how good your computer is. This way people with different computers can compete fairly.
So is it cut out or does the guy have such powerful hardware that it loads instantly?
Yes, I had to go through the recording and manually delete any frame with a Loading bar on it. I don't think any hardware would be powerful enough to not show loading screens
If you look at other runs (such as Half Life) the loading screens between levels are also cut out, so there is precedent for it. Even if they had been left in the movie, they would have had to be manually deducted from the time as, like Strangeness says, they are purely computer performance related in the time they add to the run. The only reason to leave them in would be to properly play the door opening/teleporting sound effect.
