Totally Radical Awesome Game
You might have Keening or Sunder still equipped. Those will kill you if you hold them for too long. If you're not constantly weapon switching, you could hold the halberd.
I forgot to add one tip. It is possible to get the speed up from weapon switching to a point that you can fly through walls while levitating.
Okay, thanks for all the feedback! Gonna try to finish a run now Wink

I can't run the game without a cd still Sad
I have the Elder Scrolls Anthology version, could you help me?
Don't use the launcher, run morrowind.exe directly.
I've looked for a version of Morrowind 1.0 but it's impossible to find...
I am aware that there is a similar thread where someone gave out a patch to downgrade, this didn't work for me...
I've tried basically everything...
I have the Morrowind that comes with TES Anthology if that's any help

Yesterday I found out you can escape the boat, but it's useless unless someone can figure out how to talk to Sellus Gravius without your papers. You can also escape near the tree after you select your race, but that's been known for a long time.

I decided to type up a detailed guide to speedrun Morrowind. Got a bit bored near the end, see if you can tell

How to Speedrun Morrowind

Firstly, I need to note that this guide will use my personal strats. By and large, they are the same as the general strats seen in Fatalis’ WR video, but they vary at a few points. It’s currently debatable whether a few parts are actually faster, as I haven’t put enough testing into it, but in principle they do seem to save at least a few seconds, maybe more.

General strats to note;
1) Always run diagonally (that is, holding W and A/D at the same time). This increases your speed.
2) The major glitch used in this run, the Switch Glitch, increases various stats by a helluva lot, most importantly speed and health. This allows you to move incredibly fast (believe it or not, that’s rather desirable in a speedrun) and it also increases your health, meaning you can hold both Keening and Sunder without instantly dying. However, if you hold them for long enough, you will still die, so be careful. Because this glitch increases your speed, it is desirable to switch weapons as much as possible; however, if you do it too much, it will be almost impossible to control your character. Also, if your strength increases too much, you will kill the Heart of Lorkhan in one hit, which will break the game.
3) It is highly advisable to bind the “next spell” function to a key that you can use easily, and bind the “next weapon” and “previous weapon” functions to your mouse wheel so that you can switch weapons really quickly.
4) If you reset the game whilst still in the heart chamber, you will not be able to teleport, so you won’t be able to finish the run. If you reset after completing the game to try to do another run, the heart will not spawn; in both of these cases, you have to restart the game first.
5) Try to avoid doing things like jumping just for the sake of it before you perform the cross-map jump, as this will drain your fatigue, and you won’t be able to jump as far.
6) Your AI distance should be on max, as this means Tarhiel will begin to fall from the sky when you are further away from him.
7) If you switch weapons while backing up against a wall, you will clip through it and go OOB (Out of Bounds). I won’t describe this every time in the guide, so I hope you read this.
8)    Moving your view moves the mouse an equivalent distance in menus. What I mean by this is if you have your cursor in one place in a menu, you exit the menu and turn 3 "units" to the left, your cursor in the menu will move 3 "units". This is useful during character generation to put your cursor in the right places, so you don't have to move your mouse as far.
9)    You can resize menus to your advantage; for example, so that the items you need to buy are in convenient places, or so that the "offer" button in trades and the "goodbye" button are overlapped so that you don't need to move your mouse.

The guide proper;
1) Timing starts when you press ok on the box that grants you movement. You can do whatever the fuck you want until this point.
2) The first boss of the game comes in the shape of a guard who is incredibly frustrating to get past. You have to duck past him to the left to get in front of him to save a few seconds, as he will block you as he walks past a pillar otherwise.
3) You can skip the dialogue box to go through the hatch if you activate it from a far enough distance.
4) Make your character a male Redguard Barbarian, with the sign of The Steed.
5) After you create your character, take the limeware platter on the shelf to your left. Drop it before the guard talks to you, let him slap you on the wrist, and then pick the platter back up again. He won’t try to arrest you this time.
6) Go through the door and take the first right into the room with epic lewt. Take the bottle of flin and the lockpick that are on the table.
7) Go outside, and take the ring from the barrel.
8) <Note: this is the first point where my route deviates from WR route>
Go through the door and talk to Sellus Gravius about Morrowind and then Duties. While you’re doing this, cast Adrenaline Rush.
9) Go outside, talk to Fargoth, and give him his ring.
10) Go into Arille’s Tradehouse. Sell the limeware platter and the flin, and buy 2 scrolls of Almsivi Intervention and 1 Scroll of Ondusi’s Unhinging.
11) Run up to the location where Tarhiel falls from the sky. Take the Scrolls of Icarian Flight and use a Scroll of Almsivi Intervention to teleport to Balmora.
12) <2nd point where I deviate from WR route slightly) Run towards Nalcarya’s Alchemy shop. Buy 3 sets of Mark/Recall potions and 1 potion of rising force.
13) Open your quickkeys menu (F1 default) and assign 1 to Potion of Mark, 2 to Potion of Recall, and 3 to Potion of Rising Force (or whatever keys you want, these are just the most logical).
14) Use your second scroll of Almsivi Intervention.
15) This part is much easier to illustrate with a video:
We’re going to jump from Balmora to Odrosal with a Scroll of Icarian Flight. (see the description of the video for details)
16) Use a Potion of Mark outside Odrosal.
17) Go inside Odrosal and use your Scroll of Ondusi’s Unhinging on the door. Take the Dwarven Halberd on the table to your left as you go through. Go up the ladder.
18) Take Keening. Begin to rape your scroll wheel. Switch dem weapons. Stack dat speed. oh yeah also recall + use your levitate potion
19) Fly majestically up the hill towards Dagoth Ur. As you fly over it, use a potion of mark.
20) As you’re over Dagoth Ur, face north, and then hold W + A. This should put you on a path straight to Vemynal.
21) Enter Vemynal and go OOB through the door. Fly around to the door to take you to the second room.
22) Go OOB again. Fly around to the right-hand side of the square room with doors on each side. Clip through the 2 sets of doors and get ready to kill the scary dagoth bloke whose name I can’t remember of the top of my head (Dagoth Vemyn?).
23) Equip your Halberd. Begin to swing at him. As you’re still holding down the attack button, open your inventory and equip your lockpick. He should go squish.
24) Enter his inventory (I was going to say “enter his body” but then I realised how rapey that is) and take the Amulet of Heartheal and Sunder. Cast the Amulet of Heartheal for the levitation, and recall to Dagoth Ur.
25) Go down to the little dome that covers to door to Dagoth Ur, and clip through it. Enter Dagoth Ur.
26) OOB your way through to the Facility Cavern.
27) Mark at this door. OOB backwards, enter the Heart Chamber from behind (lol enter from behind huehueheue)
28) Strike once the heart with Sunder, and quince (five times) the heart with Keening. Back up so that the heart explodes. As soon as you see “your journal has been updated”, recall.
29) Lol yer done k thx, timer stops when you lose control of your character - the first frame after you recall.

Don't think I missed anything, have fun lads

With the help of sk8r2000, I found out how to talk to Sellus Gravius and skip the entire tutorial/character generation. We're not sure if its faster though since you don't get Steed.

1. Escape
2. Talk to any guard about "Imperial Legion". This will let you talk to Sellus Gravius about the same topic.
3. Hug the wall closest to where you get Fargoth's ring in a barrel and a message box will pop up. You can now take your fists out.
4. Enter the door to Sellus Gravius and talk to him with your fists out. This will give you 35 disposition and when you talk to him with this amount, clicking "Imperial Legion" will unlock a chain of dialogue options that eventually leads to "duties".
5. Exit the door you came in and you'll be able to save, access inventory, use magic, etc.

Since you don't get the platter to sell to Arielle, we found that you can buy a lockpick from him and use the instant kill glitch and take the scrolls from his body.

"Take my love, take my land. Take me where I cannot stand." You can't take my run from me. Smiley

I noticed that the pauses in character generation all wait until the sound has finished playing, haven't found a way to cancel it except...

Morrowind.ini
Disable Audio=1

This disables all Audio with the exception of Music. The total length of all speeches that don't allow you to move is about 30 seconds, that is after the first guard.

But this is a game modification as Morrowind launcher and ingame options don't offer disabling audio. Even if Master and Voice settings are put to zero within ingame options, characters will still play their samples.

One could argue that this waiting for sample to finish playing means a speedrun on English version would differ from a German or French version. Meaning that SDA should not count the 30 seconds of dialog. While I have neither and Steam never really goes to detail, what has been translated, even if they have the option to input that.

Also using the console I found that the heart has a few unique values using ShowVariables(SV). Even if you can destroy the Heart and Dagoth using the lockpick glitch, the golem will not break. So the steps of 1 hit of Sunder, 5 hits of Keening cannot be skipped.

edit: Console commands you might find useful - http://www.cheatmasters.com/pda/cheats/964/Elder_Scrolls_Morrowind_cheats.html

ToggleLoadFade(TLF) - Toggles load fade that occur when swiching between, in and out of interior cells. While two fades occur only one of them does not allow movement.
Thank you guys so much for all the guides and tutorial videos. I just managed to complete my first run of Morrowind and they helped a lot once I got the basic ideas down.

I'm having a bit of trouble getting WSplit to work with it, though. Tthe hotkeys don't do anything and I need to alt-tab into it in order to start the timer manually. Do you have any tips for getting it to work while Morrowind has focus? Should I try another timer program?
Totally Radical Awesome Game
LiveSplit has an option that will allow you to split while in game. If you want to stick with WSplit, what I did was I would set the timer on a delay for a few seconds, and alt-tab back into the game while it was counting down.

Also, on a completely unrelated note, I came up with this idea for a longer race category http://pastebin.com/nCEgrXDA if anyone wants to kill a day playing morrowind. It's pretty fun and pretty casual.

You need to enable the option of 'Enable Global Hotkeys'

I enabled global hotkeys first thing before trying to use it. I'll check out LiveSplit (and if that doesn't work see if its something with my computer).

That Muesum run also looks pretty interesting. I've always wanted to try and complete the museum but got sidetracked by everything else.

Edit: LiveSplit worked perfectly. Got a time of 6:27.88 on my second sucessful run (because I was dumb and drank the second potion of recall early). I'll probably start streaming/recording my runs soon.

That sounds very interesting and fun, I'll look into some vague routing after my exams!

Got 3:14 any% today:

My final goal with current strats is now 3:05. Sub 3 is possible but unrealistic. My sum of best (with a lot of automatic splits) is 2:58.
Quote from Fatalis:
Sub 3 is possible but unrealistic.

That is easily possible if my previously mentioned setting of:
"Morrowind.ini
Disable Audio=1"
is allowed by SDA.
It doesn't seem legit to me so I won't be using it. I also doubt SDA would allow it.
I started working on and testing Morrowind Bingo the past few days and would like some help fleshing it out.  I should start by saying it has the following rules in mind:

1. GOTY edition with latest official patch - (1.0 is too niche.  As this is more of a "fun" category I'd rather it be easily accessible)
2. No mods - (at least none that would affect your time in any way)
3. No alchemy abuse, specifically making potions to boost intelligence then using that to make godly stat-boost potions (not 100% sold on this but the reasoning is it would likely always be the quickest method and is boring to watch and tedious to run)

I have a rough start of bingo goals here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1O9dQOrmlQV3et0NVTuQQ-TAdHX_lgwCSKwNh36N91HM/edit?usp=sharing

I'm shooting for goals that take you all over Vvardenfell and the expansions and are relatively quick to get.  For that reason it's hard to put in cool stuff like "Complete the Stronghold for Hlaalu" or "Become Arch-Mage of Mage's Guild".  Maybe a separate long and short category?  I don't know how to balance in those longer goals.

I started playing out random goals last night.  I want to eventually get through all of them to make sure they're all of reasonable time.  I'm also including quick notes by each one to help out.  I like goals like "Raw Ebony" that have numerous methods of obtaining them.  Those will be fun.  And even though Location goals would just end up being "locate them so it shows on your map" I think it's still good to have those obscure places, especially if they have cool stuff inside.

Some of the categories are greatly lacking and none are complete so I'd appreciate any ideas to add in.  It's a big game with lots to explore and I don't know it all myself.  Thanks in advance.

Lastly, I've created a personal Excel doc that I use for my bingo card functions.  It only works with Excel (not OpenOffice or Libre) because of its macros but I can send it to anyone who's interested.  I don't know how to host online bingos.
djm858,
Speed Demos Archive only accept three categories:
http://speeddemosarchive.com/lang/faq_en.html#categories

So whatever category you choose doesn't matter. If it beats the time of the current any%, low% or 100% it will be accepted, but since you choose to skip the v1.0 exploit and your categories don't seem to fit a non-any% category, I don't see an accept possible. But I might not be the one verifying.

A previous runner of the 100% category gave up, but there was a complete 100% speedrun of Oblivion.

This is not intended to be an SDA submission category.  Just bingo, a fun racing category.
Posting this here since a lot of people are probably unaware: AlbinoAlbatross has been working on the All Main Quests category and his PB (without loads) is 51:55 http://www.twitch.tv/albinoalbatross/c/4681149 . I've also added the category to the leaderboards located in the first post.
I like to learn
Hello guys, I know this is an old thread but seeing as it's the only one that has some information about the 1.0 patch for morrowind and the creator of the patch replied, I'll give it a shot.

Fatalis, I have downloaded your downpatch and tried to install it on 2 different versions of morrowind. They are both GOTY-edition and they both work on a clean install.
But whenever I copy the patch over the existing files it displays this message upon running the morrowind.exe (not the launcher):

"Morrowind CD not found

Please insert the Morrowind CD in any CD/DVD-drive."

I don't have a disk as I already bought the steam version of the game and downloaded the other instances of Morrowind, so I cannot try it with a CD in the computer.
I even tried to no-cd it for my own use but I just can't get it to work.
Because when I fix the CD part, it just complains about the fact that it can't find the video files on the CD. (Duh they are in my folder under Data Files\videos..)

Hopefully you can make some sense out of this, and if you can, I thank you sincerely as I have been working on this all day.

some facts that might help:
-I am using windows 10, compatibility options did not work.
-A reinstall also did not work.
-Steam is obviously turned off during this
-No files are missing and I did not change any .ini files
-I have a clean install to work with if needed
-The Data packs are all off except for Morrowind
-No firewall or anti-virus is running
-I opened everything as admin
-The game works fine on 1.6

Maybe in the year that followed since your last reply on this thread you actually found a solution to this, so I would love to hear from you.

Thank you for your time,
Jim
