What does everyone think about a MHFU speedrun? Is there anyone who has the game and would be willing to run it? Since the game is never really finished, I was thinking to make a run you would have to finish all the offline (Village Elder and Nekoht) Quests in the shortest amount of time.

There is a list of all those quests, with the necessary ones flagged with an asterisk next to the quest name at "http://monsterhunter.wikia.com/wiki/MHP2ndG_Elder_Quests".

That's about 54 quests if I counted correctly. So basically you would start a new game, create character however you like, run through the necessary dialog and just pop into the training school (you don't have to complete any training quests for the elder quests to become available). Then, you clear all 54 mandatory quests (you'd be using pretty low quality weapons if you didn't stop to mine etc.), save, exit, and show how long it took by going back into the continue menu.

Single-segment would probably be out of the question, so really it's just a matter of planning your weapons for each quest and having the skill to get through them all quickly.

So just throwing it out there to generate some response. What does everyone think?

P.S. The Offline quests could be one category, the guild quests another category (if someone thinks they could speedrun the HR1 through 9 quests), and then the third would be both the offline and guild quests (which, mind you, would be easier than just the guild quests alone, as you have all the money and extras gained through doing the offline quests).

Oh and of course everything would be done single-player, there isn't a fair way of incorporating multiple players.
Thread title:
If you had made this this thread six months ago I would have done it for mhp2G, I annialated this game and because my mates would not order from renchi I had to solo the whole game ( yes I got 100% g card and no I did not use cw cheat ). However my love for this game has died off and until I can get my Japanese save file changed to English I will not be playing this game, it is just to much to go through all over again.
The run would be too long...A HUGE amount of luck is always needed in MH to get the items you need in order to create weapons powerful enough to kill some of the bigger monsters.
-You would have to constantly mine for ores.
-You would need to make meat runs so you have a nice selection of well done meats.
-Money usually is not a problem but when time is a factor, it becomes a huge problem.
-Some of the monsters cannot even be killed in the time limit with weak weapons.
-Most of the actions you can do in the game takes forever. Carving is slow, mining is slow, searching the ground is slow, even finding the monsters to kill can be slow sometimes.

The fact that you would have to make a new character would make this run a high double digit hour run (If that makes since) So, in all honesty, no one will run this. Even if someone attempts to, it will end with an attempt.
I would love to be proven wrong. But I wont be ^_^
I've never gotten far in a MH game before.  They seemed like they'd be extremely difficult to speed run because of how tedious the beginning is.  Go for it if you want, but this will probably be a double digit run.

The point in running this game IS that you are restricted, so you would have to plan everything out, including how to optimize your gear. E.g. will you take down Garuga with a weapon you have, or do you think you could end up saving time by going out and farming materials to make a better one? It is all about planning and testing. Also, mining at the pokke farm can be exploited by saving, going down, and reseting until you get the exact stuff you want. I think it would be possible, and I estimate it would take about 20 - 40 hours for the Offline only.

Again, the whole point would be: guessing whether taking down an enemy with a weak armour/weapon would be faster/slower than investing precious time into crafting new things. And any attempt could go up on SDA, because it's not likely to be contested until there already is a template up there. All anyone has to do is plan and execute, and not make silly mistakes.
No attempt would be put up in SDA...It's just too long.
Who would watch a 20+ hour speed run??
Why don't you give it a shot? You seem to have good knowledge of the game.
But be aware that it most likely won't be posted...
I would love to be proved wrong ^_^

You are right that not many people would want to watch a 20+ hour speedrun, and many people don't even have that much free time. Thinking logically, even if you spent an hour a day watching, it would still take 3 weeks to watch it. And not many people would dedicate that much time per day anyway. I would be happy to attempt a run on it, but I'm still working my way through the offline quests; I've only spent about 65 hours on the game altogether. I might have a go when I finish everything in it, but that could be ages from now, that's why I was wondering if anyone else was up for it. Anyway, obviously not. Maybe something else could be worked out, however. Like a speedrun of just certain requested quests, with weak armour/weapons for challenge or strong armour/weapons for pure speed.

I could post quests like this, like aka in under 4 minutes from mhf2 things like that could be acceptable suely??

The most popular ones would be the Elder Dragon missions, I guess the best is if there is no restriction for equipment, although IMO flash bombs would take all challenge out of the run.
I say speed-run it casually and just upload the major hunting missions on Youtube for everyone to watch. Should be interesting enough, without all the downtime of just recording every second of farming.

I'd say either Greatsword or Hammer would be your ideal weapons. Greatsword kills very fast as long as you are awesome with Charge Timing, Hammer is good for a balance of Mobility and Power, at the cost of range and blocking.

Bowgun would also be an option, I think. But you need to do extra farming to get the good shells that let the weapon kill quickly and it would be horribly boring to watch.

It's up to you in the end. Good luck.
