I thought you don't have the problem because you are already doing the run and some threads before I asked you if you have this problem and I got no response.

After your recording you should save your recording. This is usually saved in a *.camrec file. After you did your run i need this file for cutting and making the video.

The camrec file should be smaller.

EDIT: That's a nice birthday present for your brother. ;-)
I made a run this morning. Badly it was faaaaar away from perfect. I think I sat around 6-7min to get through the first pirate in sea battle, but I got alot of insults from him.

And in the last part it was perfect until I should blow pepper on LeChuck. I missed him and had to go whole rollercoaster again, then I jumped off by misstake too. When I was in the ice level I had to wait for 2-3 coasters to pass before LeChuck came.

But... That will be good for now. I will do more perfect in a week or something. Anyway it would be nice to just publish a run so perhaps more people can start challanging. I am sure that it's possible to get under 40min, single segment. That is my goal.

This run isn't published on my computer yet, but I think it was around 45min. Not very good, but not very bad either, cause all of my misstakes during the game.

Sounds good. How big is the camrec file of camtasia?

Maybe you can upload your current run and send me the link?
is this the run, where you can see the cd change, or is this the new one?

Looking forward to your final run.

I forgot to change to "save to CAMREC" :-[ so I made it smaller in movie maker. I'm uploading the file right now to megaupload.

First: It's pretty bad graphics in the small video.
Second: It's pretty bad audio in both small and big videos (had more sound problem before I should record it).
Third: It lag little bit in the small video.

This video is the new run. Without cd changes. When I'm talking about big and small it's same video, but the big is 900MB with great graphics quality.

Right now it 40min left until the upload is ready. The small video is 293MB. But I'll post link here later Smiley

Here is the link  Grin Enjoy!

When doing a new speedrun save your run to a camrec file. In combination with Techsmith Codec or XVid quality 2 the file size doesn't get that large.

I use Camtasia for encoding and cutting videos. This is really awesome when you know how to use it.

And the camrec file is usually smaller.

I am now downloading your video for watching.

[glb]EDIT:[/glb] I have watched your video now. Not the whole but some parts. I have some improvements:
+ Use the . button on your keyboard to skip text faster which is not skipable by the esc button. You have a lot of dialogues which you can abort fast with the . button and I am sure this will save really a lot of time.
+ Use the escape button more often. If you pick up an item, us the the esc button after you have klicked the item, in most cases you will have the item very fast in your inventory.

A question: Do you have Savegames of COMI in ScummVM, can you upload them for me?
Ok, thanks for the tips!

Didn't knew you could use "." to skip, I'll try that later. I don't have any saved games right now. Do you want saved games for the start of every part? Then I can fix it for you.

I just found some savegames in the internet, but thanks anyway.

I think you can make this run much faster, with using all shortcuts on the keyboard which I told you.

EDIT: Your sound sounds bad? What sound quality do you use for recording? You can set the settings before you record. Or when you switch trough the recording assistent. Try to use Lamesmith MP3, this must be included in version 4. After that your sound will be much better. Here you should use 192 kbit/s.

I think that was all you have to know. I hope so.

Hello again!

I made a new run this fornoon. I used your tips with the dot button to skip chats when esc can't. I made almost no misstakes either. Almost a perfect run, just missed one car in the last part and had to wait 1 car before LeChuck came. My time was around 37.30 this time. Improvement with 6 minutes Grin

Just one thing, I pressed the "-" button by misstake so a little thing was showed for 0,2s or something on the screen one time. Is it possible to cut that or something? Just hope it not will make the movie unacceptable.

This time I got great sound too. So the quality is perfect. I also saved as *.CAMREC file like you said, but still it is 1GB size. I can try to make i smaller and send to you, El-Nino. Or you have any other suggestions?

Oh God, I really love this run Grin

Edit: I uploaded the run in my blog for the one who wanna watch: http://fredrikforsell.blogspot.com/2008/01/monkey-island-3-speed-run-movie.html

congratulations for you new time. This is really awesome. I'm really interested in watching your new video.

Try to encode with camtasia your video with the newest xvid codec with the quality of 2 and a resolution of 640x480. Use AVI as extension. Sound 192kbit/s 41k or 48k.

This might help. Tell me how big the avi file is after doing this. But I think it will be much smaller than 1GB.

If it won't work I will search for an alternative resolution.
I was able to make it 580MB. So tomorrow I will upload it. Anyone knows a site where you can upload more than 500MB (like in megaupload) for free? Otherwise I have to make it to two files.

And what is the requirements to upload an adventure/puzzle speed run in SDA (if it is possible at all)?
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
This site allows uploads up to 1GB:

Hey chaos, how you're doing? Did you get my mail some months ago?

@ Spark Man: 580MB is much better. This should be uploaded in some hours.
El_Nino did you recieve my two mails earlier? I sent link to my speed run and a little "Goodie" Wink

I suggest you send a PM to mikwuyma about that.  He's the one you contact when you've finished a run.

Yeah, I got your two mails. Thanx a lot. I am now sitting on cutting and excoding to a smaller file size.

I think it will be online the next days on my website. I will it post here when the vid is online.

Ok thank you. I will send him a PM soon Smiley

El_Nino:
That sounds good. I'll check it out in a couple of days. Thanks for all help with recording and the game tips for making it faster

No problem, it was a pleasure for me. Maybe another adventure is ready for your speedrun. ;-)

Which quality did you used on Xvid? Have you changed the quality with the configure button? Or have you left the standard value. It looks like quality 4.

I cutted and encoded your video on a resultion of 466x350 with good xvid and mp3 encoding to a file size of 161MB.

...and Grim Fandango Wink !

The newest MI3 run was very well executed. Route planing was good, nearly my own route Tongue . Here and there some mistakes, but overall not too bad for a first speed run!
I would like to see chapter 3 about 5min. quicker executed in a single-segment speedrun, though.

If I do my speedrun in the far future my primary goal would be sub-30 minutes :).
Hi Burning_Death!

Nice to see you in this topic again Smiley

I'm looking forward for an improvement of my time from your side so I can beat the time again Wink
