If you want to help me set one up Lefty, then I might be able to find some hardware I can keep on at my house. Then I could just manage everything via virtual machine.
Many minor bug fixes and tweaks. Doors have been changed to properly detect if they are open or closed. Double doors in existing maps will need to be updated. Villagers will move indoors during night and rain, and socialize with each other. Zombies will break down wooden doors on hard difficulty. Added sounds for Cats. Cats Now Meow, Cry, Howl, Purr and Hiss(5 different sounds). Better movement for mobs in water. Added rare mob item drops. zombies will very rare drop iron
Honestly the only difference is that a mob grinder will now produce a stack of iron per big chest of completely useless rotten meat (don't know the exact drop rate, but I bet it's something like that), and that on hard mode wooden doors now require whoever to place a block in front of a door so that zombies can't get in. Also, doors mobs can open, villagers that go into their houses at night, and lastly common and rare drops. Are both games following some unwritten natural progression law for games of their sort or what?
EDIT: ANOTHER new snapshot, and a big one this time with massive changes:
Added new world file format called Anvil. World height is now 256 blocks instead of 128 blocks. Up to 4096 block IDs can be used. Multiplayer light calculations no longer cause affected blocks to be transmitted to the clients, instead the clients will recalculate the light on their own. Villagers will repopulate villages based on how many houses there are available. The player may add houses to villages, provided they are enclosed with a roof and wooden door. Some nights in villages will be worse than others. Added Redstone Lamp. Decreased chance for the rare mob drops. All animals use the new AI system now.
Notable Bugs:
On newly generated worlds, lighting is broken. Most areas are always light, unless it's night-time. In SMP, powering a Redstone Lamp will not update the lighting. Lightning updates cause stuttering. Caves don't generate. The End doesn't generate (only a spawn platform and a Dragon). Netherwart doesn't grow on Soul Sand (they drop of after a while, same goes with Nether Fortresses).
Of course with big changes come big bugs, and these render parts of the game completely unplayable. I mean...what was it, beta 1.6 unplayable? 1.7? I don't remember, point is that this snapshot is broken.
So, fun little challenge I've been messing around with; spawn a flatland survival world, with structures on. Survive.
You have to rely heavily upon the resources of NPC villages, but eventually you can get infinite wood, a cobblestone generator, nether, etc. Handling the slimes is a huge problem, but if you use stairs/half blocks/fences/pressure plates etc, you can prevent them from spawning inside your base. I highly suggest getting a dirt wall around some water asap, before the first wave of slimes spawn around the village you set up in. Then dig trenches, tear down the houses, set up a larger farm, etc. Stone tools suck, but they're not too bad. You'll eventually establish yourself enough to roam around and raid other villages.
Turns out to be pretty fun, albeit not as hard as some other challenges I've tried. Slimes are also amazing for leveling, if you get an enchanting table and care enough to enchant
Well, considering the new updates to villagers, creating a fuckton of new mini houses provides new testificate villagers to use as bodyguards. It also allows you to expand your village into encompassing a new one. I would suggest making it multiplayer, teleporting four or so players 10000 blocks away from each other and then seeing how they react.
Awesome, finally a way to add proper on/off light sources with pistons.
Once they actually work in MP, of course.
Quote from Leftieswillrule:
Also, finally a way to make awesome tall structures like legit wizards' towers and lookout posts. We can actually create air cities
It's not a wizard's tower unless it's over 200 blocks high or something? Okay. Do like the sky city idea though, might just build something like that on the (new) server...should it ever exist (again).
World height is now 256 blocks instead of 128 blocks.
What does this mean for existing worlds? Are there now 128 blocks of air+128 stone? Also, GDI now my pixel art can be twice as tall, and therefore twice as detailed, and take 10 times as long.

Existing worlds will be converted to the new ANVIL format, complete with updated height limit. I think.
EDIT: In answer to the second question, I think the waterline is still 64 and such, there's just a bunch more air above it now. At least, I didn't hear anything about the chunk generation changing

Ok so I'm going to try out the new snapshot and try to come up with a review (can someone say BORED AS SHIT). In the meantime, I have several expectations: server needs to go back up, preferably with a fresh new map; FlamingMage has to FUCKING UPDATE LEGENDARY OH MY FUCKING GOD FOR THE LOVE OF ANY GOD WHO MAY OR MAY NOT BE OUT THERE IT'S BEEN LIKE 7 MOTHERFUCKING MONTHS
the best part is that you've cheesed everything....
A good time to enter.
I've been busy... but I have a request.
I want to start playing again. I have a new graphics card, and am ready to join you guys. I also have a couple of friends that need a server for us to play on... So if you would be so humble, Swedes, as to allow them as well, despite their lack of SDA status, I would be forever grateful.
lol lack of SDA status never stopped me! But of course, i've been an ever supportive member of the (somewhat inactive) minecraft server so no one has any reason to fear my unverifiable credentials. God knows I've been trolled too many times
I have been playing SSP on the new snapshot but I tried to make the redstone lamp with 4 redstone and a glowstone and it didn't work... But now I know what I'll be doing for the next two weeks before classes start again
There's a new snapshot; honestly for the most part it just fixes a few of the major bugs introduced by the last one, for example The End not spawing. There's a new golem, although not one that won't happily dive in ravines, so yeah. Useless.
