Yeah, the IP is correct, but the server isn't yet 24/7. It will probably be shortly, that's Bjorn's job though. Just use EST and assume that the server goes down late at night and comes up some time in the morning, I guess.

Also, if anyone is/was still looking for string, I now have a spider farm/trap going.  We probably don't need too much, but now it won't be a hassle to get it from spiders.  I have an idea for a water/cactus trap that may work on all mobs, but have yet to try it out.  If it does work, then I'll be building canals to capture mobs from all over (and bridges to cross said canals), so there should be some safe place to run from mobs when you're outside of town.

Erm, you haven't been on since the last derp, have you?

You have a dungeon, but your trap is most likely gone.
The Great Time of Derping is (mostly) over! New Server IP! I'll go give it out to all of you, as usual comment if I miss you (as long as this post has been up for a while)

No server is perfect, but it should be much better now. Ta da.

I just got Minecraft last weekend, and I've been itching to play it! I just need to sort out a few things with my computer, and then I can start making some of my projects.

Ill happily join the SDA server whenever I can, and when its open. Tongue
It should be open now Smiley Glad to hear of your support.

I think everyone who was on previously has the new IP now.

I have been on since the last derp, and the trap has been rebuilt.  So it's all good again.

With my overflow of Wheat and more wheat to come I was thinking of placing "Healing stations" around town; chests filled with bread that people can eat to restore any health damage (and a sign explaining that). I was thinking the walled entrances to the town, but have no idea where exactly to place them or if people would even like that

thoughts?

Good idea.  As for where to place them, I'm not entirely sure.  I think one would be good up by the arena (as we will sometimes take damage while playing the games there) as well as near the entrances to town, like you said.  Other than that, perhaps near other points of interest?
Place them by the lightposts? Maybe below them somehow? If nothing else, I suggest putting them by each entrance/exit to Wheatley like you said. 1 in the central row of trees, 1 in front of the (totally unused lol) Exchange house.

I am sad because no one uses the exchange or the posting board Sad How else do you talk to/trade with/hire players that never log on during when you do?

I knew we had an Exchange house, but I don't know where it is.
The big obsidian/glass/lightstone building on the opposite side of town from myself and Bjorn's houses, supposedly.

The one with the inexplicable holes in the windows that forced me to exit the building after a pig I was chasing decided to escape through one of them. Seriously, that could not have been/made me look more stupid.

EDIT: Healing station have been placed, one in the tree line, in the ground entrance to the arenas, the exchange building, and on top of the staircases leading into the town. I didn't place them near the doors because of Griefer Creeper blowing them up
Good plan. I have no idea who broke that glass, it didn't start out like that obviously.
Obscure games ftw
Minecraft Name: 5333739                  (don't ask...)
Prefered Name: So long as I can recognize that I'm the one being referred to, I'm fine with it. ( apparently I'm 'barcode')
Playstyle: I mess around with redstone quite a bit (have a small chest full of it on the SP world), convert almost all lava into obsidian (and then mine it ^_^) and mainly play deep underground or high aboveground when working on a project.

So I've been hearing a lot of complaints about monsters getting into Wheatley, despite the defenses. Therefore, I have seized control of the city's infrastructure and established martial law :3

Naw, just kidding. I'm just trying to shore up the city defenses, and I have now established the Wheatley Military. Anyone who wants to join up certainly should, it is a "job" and as such has both responsibilities and pay. Mostly you'll be terraforming, fighting monsters, stockpiling arrows, etc. Currently its just me (Program Director) and Xud (Food/arrows guy) and any additional members would be greatly appreciated.

Already we've (Cheese helped too) shored up two major points of monster entry, the communal forest and the south beach (The beach of Lake Wheatley) We've installed the first of many guard towers and a nice little dock, as well as a one-way barrier across the whole waterfront to keep mobs out.

This initiative isn't just for the military aspect however, as I also plan to improve the public properties of Wheatley. Eventually, we will have 3 public pastures, 2 public forests, and a public quarry (of unspecified size as of yet, bjorn wants 64x64)

Lastly, although I certainly don't mind if people continue planting other forests near Wheatley, PLEASE put the saplings a little further away. Creepers love spawning on treetops and I personally have seen 7 creepers dive-bomb past the preliminary defenses we had before this initiative.

Hopefully town will becomes a safer and more productive place for us all.

I can help out with the army.  I've been getting better at the traps and have a good source of string for bows.  So I can help stockpile weapons.

We need some bows in all the defensive tower, and like we talked about yesterday, your new trap ideas will be extremely helpful Smiley Thank you.

Update on progress:

I worked my butt off yesterday.

Enormous second pasture added on the other bank of Southbeach.
Beach and water gate both secured better, both had small security flaws.
Wall is now over half constructed, and encompasses the train station.
ALL roads in Wheatley replaced with half-steps (mobs don't spawn on half-steps)
Second defensive tower constructed.
2 additional plots added.

I think that's all. Good crafting, all Cheesy
Obscure games ftw
A couple potential improvements/things of note:
1. a few roads near the edges of town are made of cobblestone, but that's not a huge problem
2. At intersections, signs could be placed saying what's where so newcomers (like me) don't get too lost
3. the soul sand gates, though extremely effective against taller mobs, don't work against spiders  I got pinned down on top of my house by one.

Other than that, nice job setting everything up (to everyone who helped)
heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh
I have great news:

    * Note blocks (right click to tune, trigger to play)
    * 15 wool dyes
    * A new water dwelling mob (squid)
    * New tree types
    * Reeds magically turned into sugar canes. They still make paper.
    * A bunch of new crafting recipes
    * One secret useful block
    * One secret pretty block
    * Cake
    * Default furnaces given new look
    * Bones added on drops (possibly only skeletons)
    * Bones can be crafted into Bonemeal.
    * New black sheep. Drops black cloth.

Bugfixes:

    * Paintings work in multiplayer
    * Disconnecting while riding no longer keeps the player in the world
    * A bunch more state is properly synched in multiplayer
    * Fixed colors going weird on PowerPC
    * Fixed a horrible chunk reload loop in singleplayer
    * Fixed most lighting bugs in newly generated SMP maps
    * Falling sand behaves better in SMP
    * Fixed a few crash on load level bugs
The Speedrunning Teacher
I wasn't lying about the cake.  Now I expect to see it in the healing stations (provided it heals better than bread Tongue )

It heals 1.5 hearts as opposed to bread's 2.5, but cake can apparently be used twice six times. I won't be filling the stations with it since I have MORE than enough bread in stock, so cake isn't as useful/practical

That said, can anyone help me with my lagging problem? The game lags horribly on my side. The server's fine, and the problem, I've found out, is my CPU usage. With the render distance set to tiny, the game will alternate every 20 seconds between running perfectly using <30% CPU, and between having 10 second delays and skipping while devouring my entire CPU whole (yes, it used 100% at one point).

I'm no computer nut, all I know is that an inexplicable 70% difference is probably not a good thing. Help?
I'm working as fast as I can, I Have No Name, but thank you for the suggestions.

Wool dyes cool plz. "Secret" stuff will be found in first 5 minutes and on wiki in 6, guaranteed.

Signage around town needs to be greatly improved, but I'm already like 12 stacks of logs into the hole for Wheatley and don't feel like tree-ing much right now.

Perhaps 2/3 cakes in each station, to shore up slight health loss xud? I'm not really sure if that's ideal though. Lag I don't really understand, perhaps the sudden inexplicable jump is related to chunks? I don't know, all of Wheatley should be pretty well loaded for you (not that I know how it works lol.)

Not needed, fish would serve that purpose with MUCH less resources spend. Besides, I have enough wheat. As for the lag I think I'll just have it checked by the resident computer nut
Oh god, spiders can climb walls. Do our defenses take that into account?

I'll probably not drop by this evening, but It seems we'll have to go out a long way to dig for Lapis Lazuli considering how we have already created chunks for almost any nearby area =/ Guess Blue wool will be immensly expensive in our town then.
heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh
Speaking of spiders, I ran into one logged in the wall of the exchange building

What. The. Hell.
