I apologize for how bad this run is. Stage 2 and Stage 3 could have been WAY cooler.

I will give a more detailed level by level breakdown soon, but here are some quick takeaways as to how I have improved the run:

Trini beats the crap out of Stage 2. This run has a horrible boss fight, but she STILL saves loads of time.
Jason is Mr. Consistent on Stage 3, and it seems that he hits faster while he is glowing after he gets hit by the electricity in the water. I need to test this further.
Zack is da gawd of Stage 4.

Also, my phase 2 Cyclopsis fight is so ridiculously lucky it actually makes me kind of annoyed.

Eventually, I'll incorporate backflips and actually start recording attempts for submission. I refuse to submit a run without an awesome stage 2 boss fight and the stage 3 glitch.

For now though, enjoy!
Nice job! Watching it now.

One question to you all: wouldn't it be faster to do a segmented run? The time penalty can't be that big and it would give you an almost ultimate time!
Awesome Butters Smiley Glad you did it. I'm not sure how much time it saves but I fell off a ledge in Stage 4, and I was just doing a casual finish, and at the start, where the guys come climbing in, I just threw the putties off stage to the Right, hitting the guys on the bars instead of comboing the one and then jump attacking, 2 birds with 1 stone. LMK what you think.

@AdHoc, we're doing single segment runs. To me Segmented for such a short game is semi pointless, the live action of it makes it more exciting to me.

Thanks for your answer.

I'm very used to segmented runs and find them more attractive, because you can take more risks without failing. Some will say it's too similar to TAS, but hey, maybe I'll try a segmented run of MMPR myself one day!

Cheers
Danshow: I used to do that, but then stopped when I realized that I was losing time because of it. I think it can potentially save time to do it like, once if the puttie to the left cooperates and comes far enough to the right that you can successfully throw him into the pit. However, there are risks. If the puttie you throw doesn't make the pit, you have to run up and hit him off. This + the throw animation wastes time. In addition, if you throw the puttie too far, he and/or the puttie on the bar might hit the currently nonexistant opposite ledge. This confuses the game, and it takes an extra second or two to register that the puttie is dead and then spawn the next enemy.

AdHoc: Segmented run? Mo' like, Sissified run.

In all seriousness though, a segmented run only really makes sense for like, strategy RPGs or super long RPGs etc. (and even those are being run SS nowadays).

A segmented run of this game would be pointless. I may record ILs at some point though, just to use as a visual reference. Thanks for your interest and support, though!

Grats Butters! Cheesy
New World Record IIRC. 29:20

Lot's left to improve in the run as I was almost -12 overall on my splits.

Looks like I'm back on the grind. Well done!

Yeah, there is still plenty of time to be saved. I'll need to pick up some of your new strats for Stage 1, and not screw up in Stage 4 (after comparing our runs, I now realize just how easy it is to lose a bunch of time in Stage 4 off of one error). New Stage 4 boss strat is also cool.

Stage 2 and Stage 3 bosses are the real jerks, though.

Nothin special, it will be broken by Butters or myself when we can both put more time into runs.
Well done. I have had quite a few sub 29 runs ruined by the last 2 bosses (most recently, the Ninja boss trolled me as well). Oh well, really just a matter of sitting down and playing repeatedly until the sub 29 just kinda happens. I'm feeling motivated to do a bunch of runs this week.

Also, here is a quick video of the latest cute glitch.

Willing to teach you the impossible
Anyone know where I can get a copy of this game?
Heidrage Ebay would probably be the best bet in all honesty, it's fairly cheap on there.
First sub 29 Run, http://www.twitch.tv/danshow1/c/2632356
Unfortunately I got trolled by Mutalisk and Cyclopsis, like usual a potential good run knocked down, but sub 29!~!!

"Better" sub 29 run: http://www.twitch.tv/buttersbb/c/2635600

This run is pretty bad, and I find it hilarious that it is the current WR. Anyone that doubts that Cyclopsis decides the run: Just watch this video.

Why do you not stop time after you land th3 final blow to the boss? You are adding like 3 or so seconds to your time

Technically yes, but iunno, its just a tradition that we have been maintaining. For SDA timing though, yeah, the final time will be faster.
Yeah I think we should swap over to SDA timing, maybe for races we end on the animated slash?
Landed a 28:35 just a few moments ago, will post video when I highlight it. Using SDA Time ofc,

Noted differences in SDA / Final in game hit

- Mid screen Final Hit is 4.13 seconds from Start to Finish
- Corner Screen Final Hit is 7.18 seconds from Start to Finish

I tested this multiple times to see how much time from my run was off the final hit, consistantly landed these numbers, ( Please test incase I'm wrong) but overall good run, GREAT boss RNG cept for Mutilus
Well I finally hit 28:30, a few days ago. Been on vacation so couldn't post here but since hitting 28:30, I am going to step back from MMPR as a runner, I'll continue my work on the Wiki and Strats, but going to focus more on other games. I hope all runners / New runners can surpass my time and take this game further.
Well done dude, that time is sick!

Sub 28:30 will be the new goal then. Will be tough, but hopefully I can pull you back in. Smiley

After reviewing my run a bit more my projection for the best time ATM with current strats is around 28:10.. Dare I say 27:5X is possible with godlike RNG / Run - Yes. 27:5X is definitely possible.

I lost a solid 7-10 seconds in Stage 2
3-5 in stage 3
5-10 in stage 4
3-6 in stage 5.

Mutilus and Cyclopsis are taken out of this because they're stupid.
Alright I tend to say this to much, After reviewing this urn here:

http://www.twitch.tv/danshow1/c/3048883

27:3X IS 100% Possible.

I also say this to much: I am done with MMPR for quite some time, bigger n better things to start ^_- Someone break this pleaseeee

If this is the case why do we not stop the time in Contra after the final blow to the boss?

In the newer, more recent runs we have decided to final split on the last it as it's the last manual input you need to do.
