I hate to bring bad news, but there might be a possibility I might not be able to finish this run anytime soon. I found out the reason why I've been making too many mistakes: the controller is going bad. It's really hard to even get a complete 4 hit combo. Not to mention that it sometimes has just stop working and even doing things like jumping or attacking when I didn't push any button at all.

So, I don't know. I was thinking that if I get anytime between 34:00 to 34:10, I might go ahead and submit. I'll attempt to see what's wrong with the controller. Maybe just a wire loose somewhere or something.

Edit: Yep, loose wire. No biggie to fix.
It's a good thing that you didn't have to open your controller and scrape the nasty stuff out like I had to several times with my own.
...
Well, at least it's stop randomly not working (which it shouldn't do for now on since it was the hot wire that was broken). And actually, I had to open it. That's how I found which wire it was right off.

However, it's still randomly doing a bunch of random moves. Just finished another run at a craptastical 35 min exact. Lost about 20 seconds due to the bomb setting off just before the second stage, so I didn't have it to use on him. That's just one of the two major things that cost me a lot of time. Just going to give myself an hour and half break before I try another attempt.

I should be able to get a new controller by the 20th, since that is when classes start again. There is a vintage gaming store near where I usually park, so if I don't end up getting sub 34 before then, I'll be able to pick up a new controller to use from there.
WARNING: DO NOT GET THE SHITTY "PERFORMANCE" BRAND CONTROLLERS! I had one of those and they just stop working randomly, and it's when everything is in otherwise excellent shape. Just simply get a official SNES controller.

Or you could do the really cheap way: ask somebody who has a "broken" SNES or doesn't have a SNES anymore to give you a official controller for free or for like a dollar.(this is how I got one of my controllers and several of my games, including Skyblazer)
...
Hehe, asking someone? No one around has one. Even if you ask about it, they'll say something like, "What? SNES? Oh you mean that stone age piece of crap? Get a XBOX 360/Wii/PS3 already! Get with the damn times!"

I have finally gotten sub 34, with the final blow at 33:38. However, I took a lot of damage in the second Megazord fight. Hopefully, the run wouldn't be rejected because of that. Sometimes he can be pathetically easy, and sometimes impossibly hard.

But the main problem is, my dvd drive on both my laptop and media server won't read the DVD+RW disk. When it does show up, it doesn't show any files on it. It still plays on the DVD recorder, but not any others.

What!! I feel sorry for you! Cry That response is probably from some "Smash my Vintage whatever" wannabe. I don't know how many times this has been expressed before, but they really need to smash their heads using a sledgehammer. Well my SNES was given to me by a very nice friend. When I gave him a PSX to pay him back, he said he was gonna give me his N64 to pay me back. Suprisingly, there are like 5+ people in my neighborhood who have a SNES and they still always play theirs.

As for your speedrun, excellent job! I hope you get your DVD+RW issue solved soon. Have you tried a DVD drive on a desktop compy or a actual DVD player?

Thank you for your advice and support, JRL. I've decided on a new strategy regarding this game. Instead of worrying about mistakes and such, I've decided to go berserk instead. I actually found that I've saved more time doing this instead of worrying about mistakes and things regarding saving time. By the end of stage 4 I was actually ahead 10 seconds from my previous record. However, died when I mistimed the jump and went into the pit. Damn, how I was doing so good.

To give you even more encouragement, let me list my time.

Climbing part of stage 4=Lost my last life=My time was 50+ minutes when I lost my last life.

There, don't you feel better? Grin

Bad news again--the disc went bad while I was trying to copy it over to VHS. Won't even play in the DVD recorder now. Tried another segment, got 33:33 with only one more hit left, but all of a sudden, every attack was blocked and I was hit by whatever it is's most powerful attack, and thus defeat.

I've decided I'm not going to post again until I get this speedrun done. I'll probably spend all day tomorrow on it, just so I can finally finish this at last.
Simply leave it to DVD. The quality is much better.

Have you got in anymore attempts yet?

I'm finished with the game (at least as far as speedrunning it). The best attempt out of four completed attempts was 33:37, and that's the time I'm submitting.

Excellent job and congrats! What were your other three recorded times you got this time around? Also, if you have trouble capturing, viewing or encoding again, just send the DVD to Nate.

EDIT: Also, I don't want to be an attention hugger, but will I be mentioned in your comments too?
...
Thank you for your congrats. The other times were 34:21, 35:02, 33:44.

And no, I'm already encoding them myself with Anri-chan, and I thank Nate and the others who programmed Anri-chan. It's actually very straight-foward and simplistic.

As for your next question, yes you do. I would be a total asshole that would need to be drop-kicked in the face and beat down with a baseball bat filled with lead if I didn't mention you. You only have to look at the number of posts of tips and support you made in this thread to see how much credit you get.

Thank you *bows* and you will be mentioned in my run comments too for helping me with my run. Grin

Just to update, the game is up on the verifier's list. Just don't post saying you're a verifier, if you are chosen to be one. Not like it matters, since you, JRL, and me have been really the main ones posting in this thread. I don't even know if others have been reading this thread. If they have, well, they probably don't have anything to contribute, or just feel like reading but not posting. But then again, I may be wrong.

I don't see why I would be mentioned, since about all I have done so far is post up a video of a quick way to get through the Lair of Khyron. The path, as I mentioned in the thread, does have some flaws to it, so using the path will be risky.
Well, it was still very helpful.

Yay! Congrats on getting the run published! You are an awesome runner, sir, and I hope to see more of your runs.
My feelings on The Demon Rush
Hey Deadstick, you know what I said, but I might as well post here so everyone can know.

I thought this run was great except for one thing, Deadstick didn't backflip in ranger mode (tap jump twice).

However, this doesn't waste too much time because Power Rangers has a lot of forced battles.  I would say 30-40 seconds could be saved from backflipping (and that might be generous).

Anyways, great run Deadstick. You really knew how to group the putties.
100% runs=great to watch
Yep, quality beat downs aplenty.  Cool run.
I h8 YaBB 1G - SP1!
Just wanted to give my congratulations on the run. It's great and entertaining (love the friendly fire Bandai has programmed into it- silly Putties).

Since I don't really understand how this game works I wanted to ask why you don't seem to lose health when you're hit. I mean there is this huge lifebar and it doesn't seem to decrease. Are you allowed a certain number of hits or does it change color lightly?
My feelings on The Demon Rush
Wulfenlord: If you collect a health pack that raises your health above full health, the life bar will actually go above full capacity and change colors to show this (the color depends on how far above full health you went).  Don't ask me why the designers did this, it's not like you need extra health in this game.
...
Glad to know you all enjoyed it. Though, I guess I timed it wrong.

The whole back-flipping thing Mike mentioned will make the run harder, since you may very easily get back-stabbed by one of the putties. However, it will save a bit of time. I tried it on stage one, and managed to save a few seconds. If properly planned out, it could save more than what Mike mentioned.

JRL, you might have to wait awhile for another run, as I'm not entirely sure what I might attempt to run next, and the other is still in the verification topic.

Wulfenlord, glad to know you were entertained by the run.  Those friendly fire parts actually were a nightmare to get through quickly (especially stage 5), but at least I'm glad to know you enjoyed those parts.
Why don't you try your NES games?

Castlevania 2 I thought about trying to improve, but I just don't like speedrunning that game. River City Ransom I can't beat without taking time to buy Dragon Feet and Grand Slam. Megaman games are something I would hate to hate due to the frustration of speed running. The list goes on.

But don't worry, I'll decide another game sooner or later. I got a few I got ideas of games that could be speedrunned. Just need to juggle around some ideas about each before I decide.
Just watch both River City Ransom TASes.
