Heh. No one seems to be having much luck sequencing breaking the game. A lot of the movement tricks used to set up breaks in the first two games don't work anymore.

I kind of like it that way, personally. >_>

Really?__? ..there are none, or you none found>__>

When I bought MP2 in the shop, ``Kip  ``had already a finished run!...he is crazy<__<

I must wait still two months for the Pal version, but I am pleased*__*

then i'll be the second. the only thing i would've liked better is if Samus actually talked. it's also been a little linear so far.

i'm actually having a hard time ghetto jumping. whenever i try to do it, my second jump doesn't work.

my favorite part of the game so far has to be the Jumpball. i didn't even know it existed until Goffy mentioned it. its also nice to actually start out adequately equipped for once.
Roll jumps and BSJs still work. A good place to try to sequence break might be on Norion (getting to the control tower (jumping over Ghor or something) before activating the generators might allow you to skip most of the planet) or Bryyo (get the other landing sites without Grapple Swing by using a roll jump).

Still on my first time through the game, though, so I'm not really looking for things yet. Also, there's probably going to be a lot more stuff posted on m2k2 than here, so check there every once in a while.

SPOILERS, obviously

It looks as though you might be able to skip visiting the Valhalla.  You can reach the eastern landing site before going there, but I'm not sure if you can get the upgrade there before the Valhalla.  It's certainly something to look into, although it's probable that you will have to visit the Valhalla anyway (and it looks like it's the source of this game's fetch quest), so I'm not sure if this is really a timesaver at all.

END SPOILERS

Amen on that one.

At first glance, the gmae does seem less breakable, for a few reasons.  First off, a lot of the game seems very linear.  That is, most of the beginning levels are a series fo 10 rooms connected one room after the other, with only one possible direction to go.  Second, they put sliding mechanics on EVERYHTING that wasn't meant to be on.  I can see high walls out of view being slippery, but then there's things like a 10 foot high crashed ship in the middle of the room, barely taller than you are that has sliding mechanics on it.

I think I'd really hate it if it did that. Especially because you just know they would give her a really sexy "computer AI" voice. Faugh.
Just call me the cynicism machine
But we already know what her voice kinda sounds like by the noises she made in Super Metroid...

Yeah, I said it.
There's no skipping the Valhalla. You need to visit it to access the final planet.

I have no doubt that the Metroid community is going to come up with a series of cool speed /boss tricks, but I'm a little skeptical as far as major sequence breaks are concerned. We'll see in due time.

By the way, if anyone here was worried about spoilers, maybe they shouldn't have entered this topic in the first place. Common sense.
I did just pwn the transforming-chick.

I will record the ending and upload it to YouTube when I'm finished with this game.

timesaver in Bryyo

Great game so far.   The one thing that is going to piss off speedrunners though is that there are MANY cutscenes (so far...I'm only 10% done with the game) that are unskippable.  I haven't really paid attention if cutscenes actually eat up the clock time or not.

EDIT: Turns out Andrew_Mills found this before I did.

Oh I'm well aware of that, although it looks like don't need all of the energy cells.  I was thinking we could skip that mission where it tells you to visit the Valhalla (and pretty much immediately leave).

Also, I found a small timesaver for a 100% run

Sorry if the video's a little dark.

I want off the ride....
Other than for 100% can anyone find a reason for why you can get ship missle stock upgrades? i mean i was sitting with 11/11 on my 100% normal finish; (12 hrs horrible)

Honestly, i can see a few time savers but the whole 100% would be a pain as I found in some places that back tracking would be necessary or what not, and some of the places are not good places to back track to (aka the warp to ice place in the lava section of Bryyo)

What i'm wondering about is what other movement techs will spawn I mean; the Screw Attack is anything but useful; I found myself regretting using this cause of how crappy it was at times, if you clicked too fast you might be too short on the jump and what not..

Honestly I am wondering how you all will tear this game apart as someone has to do it... I would prefer to see it on Hyper though... I guess I'll start that mode tomorrow or something...

As a note though, I encountered a STRANGE glitch on the Ice Guy... After screwing around a bit; i decided to Take off his armor and GO HYPER on him, for some reason (i donno why) He locked up after I left hyper in a stunned pose and left me finish off his last 30% all in charged shots without fear of retalliation. I might look further into his on Hyper mode, see if i can find an applicable way to manifest this 100% of the time, maybe it'll get put to use. Sure its not the "forced sword swing" but it'll be safer and maybe faster (if you have the health tank to spare for it)

Other than that; i didn't see much of any sort of glitches in the game, though I do hate the fact its very very cutscene oriented.

I never went to Valhalla til i had like 4-5 energy cells, when i got the transmission i ignored it cause i was "on an item hunt!" so... you can completely ignore this transmission; i think its only for pointing out the location you need to go to later.

Does anyone have any tips for quickly beating the Defense Droid in Skytown? It's taking an absurd amount of time for me.
Yeah, I said it.
Most cutscenes in the game can be skipped by using the B button, including the long briefing at the start of the game. You might need to clear the game once for this to work, though.

There's been a few sweet discoveries (including a Screw-Attack assisted Ghetto Jump, miniboss skip and a few other cheeky timesavers.

So, so far, not a bad start to our ultimate goal of generating tangable sequence breaks/major speed tricks. Cheesy
guffaw
the last two are kind of obvious, but I learned from prime 2 that people sometimes miss obvious things.

it was good to see the bsj and ghetto jumps survive.

Yea, but Retro obviously tried pretty damn hard to remove the Ghetto, seeing as sliding up against a slope disables the Space Jump most of the time.  Roll Eyes

Still, we've managed to overcome that and skip a miniboss already. Who knows what else we'll all discover over the coming momnths?

I'm just worried about them adding some great new content via connect 24 and slipping in a few 'fixes' to our early findings. You can rest assured, that the mini-boss skip WILL be fixed come it's PAL launch. I'll be genuinely gobsmacked if it isn't.

lol.  I didn't even know there was another MP3 discussion.  I'm glad there is because SDA forum is kinda dead.

I'll credit you in the youtube vid info for finding the speed trick.
Damn it! I missed my chance to protest the speedrun! Not that I'm against a run of it...its just that the game just came out!

You people didn't even give it a week.

I have to wait 15 days until I can get this game Sad

Edit: Yay! I got it early. Cheesy
Yeah, I said it.
Current Progress:

I can get to Bryyo in under 0:30. I can defeat the first Leviathan boss and get started on Elysia in under 1:30.

Also, I just posted this at M2K2, I guess I'll post it here, too.

Not sure if people here are aware of this combat-related trick or not, but it's pretty cool, and easy to miss.

Remember the "Aeromine" enemies? They're airborne drones that travel in packs with their shields raised. You're supposed to beat them by attacking the ones that drop their shields.

Next time you meet a pack of them, try simply turning into the Morph Ball and ramming into them / running past them. They'll ALL explode instantaneously.
Egad you people are fast. I'm still way back on Bryyo and most of you have already beaten the game...or close to it.
Everybody loves Hypnotoad!
I must say, the Hyper Charge (charge your beam in hyper mode) is the most ridiculously overpowered attack ever.  If you hit with all the attacks of it, it does at least as much as a power bomb in the previous games.

I can see getting more energy tanks than usual for this speedrun just for the ridiculous power of Hyper mode.

Are you perhaps implying that you would consider speedrunning it? If so, that would be totally awesome!  Cheesy
Killer Chobocos don't get any chocolate.
May as well ask...

Y'all know that you start with the SpringBall right?

Just flick the wiimote upwards. (or anywhere really)

BTW:  I'm not sure if you start with it... I just started doing it at some point.

It saves much time when only a single bombjump is needed.
