I think I found a flaw in Craztad's test run (which is awesome BTW, such great use of insta-unmorph jumps). In the fiery place in Bryyo, he took the really fast shortcut (freezing some lava with an ice missile) but didn't open up another shortcut (involves ripping a pipe), which costs him around 2 minutes in segment 10.
Could be wrong but IIRC he didn't open that shortcut because there's a trick to jump up to the pipe from the bottom of the room the first time you enter it. He was stuck at that segment for a while because of it and decided to just forget it, intending to do it later. At some point I noticed it's easier to do it on higher difficulties and nobody's been able to confirm that it works on normal mode.

Not getting the pipe definitely doesn't cost him anywhere near two minutes though. I did some timing and the pipe saves as much time as it takes to get without the Gel Processing Site speed trick (which he didn't use)... with it it's a bit slower.

So you can actually use the pipe shortcut before it should be available? If so, that's a juicy timesaver, as you'll reach Rundas quite a deal faster. Also, what does the difficulty setting have to do with the execution of the trick?
There's an ice door in Gel Refinery Site, so you still have to take the long way around the first time. And the trick involves doing a ghetto jump using a damage boost off a Reptilicus for extra speed/height; the higher the difficulty setting the more speed you'll get and the higher you'll go.
...what do you mean? I have it connected just like I would any other console.
Just watched the entire testrun by craztad, and it was extremely impressive and imo, it's optimized enough to be posted on SDA. Just have a couple questions about it:

-Early in Elysia, there’s a mini-boss that gives you an energy tank. Craztad killed the boss with the phazon beam, but I’m pretty sure it’s faster to spam missiles and beam shots at it.
-Segment 28 part 1, 5:51: Why does Craztad BSJ over the wall that late (at 6:15)?
-What are some time savers that craztad didn't use? He pretty much abused bs jumps mostly, but I suppose the game is linear enough that you can't expect MP1 type sequence breaks.

I believe paraxade or logitech(can't remember which one found it) found that it is way faster to use the hyperball so you can hit the enemy even while it is invisible very rapidly.

I think i have to kill all the enemies in the room to go on so i just sit there until all the enemies that come to me come and die then bsj. It might be faster to bsj earlier but probably not a whole lot. I honestly did no testing for this segment. The segment i kept was my second attempt so there is definite room for optimization.

Well the things i didn't use were mostly minor. A bomb jump has been found by kip before ridley that saves a good 20 seconds to a minute(i currently have not timed the difference). kip also found a spring ball space jump in gel processing site that saves some time especially if the enemy boost can be figured out how to be done on normal earlier in the segment. Late grapple is also untested speedwise although due to a dash jump paraxade found the difference is probably negligible and might even be faster to get it before the map. A few route changes need to be done like not picking up as many missle and not as many e-tanks and the ones that do get picked up probably need to be different ones. That is all i can think of at the moment although there is probably a lot more.
superbump. Is anyone other than paraxade attempting a run for this?

No one has publicly anounced they are anyways that i know of. ark is planning to do one this summer i think but ya other than paraxade its wide open.
What are all the available categories, then? I'm guessing there's 6 (low/any% [identical] and 100% each difficulty).

there could be more now that Secret Worlds are a seperate category, but i don't know if any are beneficial. and imo, there's no reason to do runs on Veteran. there's little to no difference between it and Normal besides enemies having slightly higher defense.

But then you could argue normal mode is too easy (which it really is) and that only veteran/hyper mode runs should be accepted. I guess it's up to nate/mikwuyma/enhasa/someone of high authority.
SW3 is useful, but it saves around 10 seconds at the most. It won't be a seperate category.

I'm a big fan of metroid and I have a question about recording runs on the wii. What equippment do I need??
...and one more: How do I know when the run is qualified to be posted/uploaded?? No one have done a corruption-speedrun at this moment so there is no reference

I did a test run to give people a reference. My test run could probably be qualified to be posted on sda so if you beat it you should have little problem getting it posted here. Sub 2:30 would be awesome.
Do'h! Homer'D!
I would very much like to see an optimized run with latest tricks.  Smiley

Been trying to duplicate aspects of Craztad's run, in particular BS jumps and difficult sequence breaks like that.

Anyway, I had one heck of a hard time just getting the Crash Site SB, so I figured I'd try and post a helpful video on how to pull it off, which goes into more detail than the metroid2002 video.

I might post a couple more of these while continuing my hyper mode low% run (just for fun, not submission).

Edit: Has anyone pulled off the trick in the right video in the following link?

http://www.metroid2002.com/corruption/without_grapple_swing_crash_site.php

I'm not sure how a ghetto jump is implicated, or if holding the lock-on button and releasing it mid-jump gives extra height.

Double edit: Some other hard tricks explained to the best of my knowledge.

Probably been tried already, but would a spring bomb bs jump work in gel refinery? My guess is it won't give enough vertical.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
How does a METROID speedrun not get more attention?

Seems odd....

I'm sorry if this has been raised before, but why is a run of MP3 not up on SDA yet? I thought I remembered reading ages ago that it was because the quality of the video capture is not good enough. If this is the case, can someone who has skill at speedrunning this game please get a capture that is good enough? I get tired of seeing all these awesome runs on youtube and none up here. C'mon? Sorry if I come off a bit edgy, but I really would like to see at least one MP3 run up here. Smiley

I didn't consider my run a real run. It was a test, nothing more, and that is why i didn't submit it. Paraxade is in the works of a run that is looking extremely good so far that will (to my knowledge) be submitted when he is finished. He's only about half way through the run and its already 10+ minutes faster than mine. So if you can be patient he will have an awesome run to put up on the site maybe by years end. Those that aren't very patient could always do a run themselves since nothing is stopping them from becoming the next great metroid speed runner. I'd love to see some random no name come out and surprise the metroid community with a bad ass run, especially for this game.
