Nystroem writing in Frezy_Mans name.. yeah it's ok, he's right next to me playing Metroid Prime 3 for the first time. It was released today in Europe, and he just started playing.
Anyway.. so.. 3:13.. 10 deaths... are you going to send it to SDA?
So guys. I just bought Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.
I'm gonna buy a Wii in the near future me thinks.
now that's what i call a fan.
*hasn't checked M2K2 in a week* anyone have a 100% route mapped out yet? considering the game practically gives you 75% of them, it should be easy to plan.
Just an example of MP3's scan dash. A normal space jump doesn't make it to the other side:
The scan dash requires dashing very near the edge of a platform so that normally you would slide down VERY quickly below. But if you start the dash (quickly tap B) somewhere during the slide, the normally short, quick dash will actually float and get extra distance. The extra distance is shown in the video as the distance from where I land to the edge of the platform, since a normal double jump just misses the platform.

A USEFUL example. Another way to get an early missile expansion in Norion:
Another example (second half of video). The video also shows a speed trick in Gateway in Bryyo:
yeah, I finally ended up realizing it sucked. I know I can do this with way less than ten deaths (hell even the practice run had less than 10... I've done a ton of practicing on Phaaze and I've got most of it consistent except skipping the bouncy monster and Dark Samus), and 3:13 isn't exactly a great time either; my goal is sub-3:10, but I'm really aiming for around 3:08 or 3:07. With a new strategy, I can already cut off 4 minutes from just the Omega Ridley fight; I also think I can improve the Korakk fight doing something similar. The rest of the improvements would be from new/different tricks and just generally less mistakes (the Valhalla, for example, was just plain awful in the 3:13, and I lost probably a minute in there; I ended up falling down the third room four times and messed up in a couple of other places too... at least I got the energy cell skip on my first try). I don't regret the decision to withdraw it either; in some of my attempts since then I've been pretty far ahead of the 3:13 just 20 minutes in. The main problem I've been having is getting through the first 10 minutes (the Olympus), but that looks like it's starting to change. I'll likely have it done in the next couple months, but you can be assured that when I finally do submit another run, I'll be satisfied with it.
only thing that might need revision is the death count I'm accepting... my goal so far has been 3 or less, but I'm thinking of revising it to 2 or less and limiting their being used until Phaaze, or maybe even I shouldn't accept any at all. Of course the latter would be best, but I'm not sure how realistic that is...
I love this game, got it the other and I've just beaten the defense drone; haven't played it as much as I would've liked, since I've been playing CoD3 so much I've completed it after buying it two days ago.
A multiplayer mode would make this game much better.

i hate that argument. no it wouldn't. it's a single player adventure at its core. Prime 2 didn't need it, and it was pretty crappy anyway. i barely count Prime Hunters as a Metroid game. its just an FPS with Samus slapped on it.
and to stay on topic, Paraxade, could you possibly put the 3:13 on Youtube? y'know, just to give a taste of what to expect from a run like this?

The Wii needs multiplayer shooters, and it's the perfect console for it, yet there's no online shooters for it (until MOH: Heroes 2 comes out at least). The least Nintendo could've done is to give us an enjoyable FPS experience to play with your mates, and Corruption's new control system would've took advantage of it completely. The best shooter on the Wii is Call of Duty 3 IMO, and it as a launch game. Red Steel's attempt at a shooter was mediocre at best - come on Nintendo!

all those crap games/lack of games are 3rd parties' fault, not nintendo. what can they do if activision refuses to release cod4 on wii?
only thing that can be blamed on them is mp3 not having multiplayer but then people hated it in echoes.

i agree that the Wii could use some more online FPSes. i don't play them, but the controls are a perfect fit, with and without the Zapper. all i'm saying is that Metroid doesn't have to be one of those games. and that's the last you'll hear from me in this argument.
Paraxade: I asked simply because your run was the only other one in progress besides the any% over at M2K2. if you don't want to submit it, so be it. i can wait.
