Someone should make a YouTube playlist of all the MP3 tricks.

So if we found a way past that (lol), do you think the ziplines would allow you to go through? They seem to work differently, but I never tried swinging from the zipline. >_>

No. You cannot use an item without collecting it first, and it would be really weird if the ziplines worked with Grapple Lasso instead of Grapple Swing.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
>_>

You're saying something is weird on a site that deals with Backwards Long Jump, screen warp, and Bottle Adventure?

Anyway, I'm playing through on Hyper mode now, trying to sequence break. I still can't get the timing of bsj right though. ;_;
Everybody loves Hypnotoad!
One way to tell is that the Grapple Swing is automatic upon lock on, while the Grapple lasso requires you to cast out the nunchuck.

At least, IIRC it is.
The fact that grapple lasso and grapple beam are two different items makes no sense whatsoever.  They both grab onto solid objects, and can both clearly hold a large amount of weight.
Frisbee Grenadier
For some reason, they thought it would be a good idea to make you get Grapple Swing after a single morph ball section.

Which is sorta lame, considering it's completely useless once you get Screw Attack.

You still need to use Grapple Swing to get across the ziplines in Elysia. The gaps they take you across are far too long to screw attack across.

Your best bet is to check the M2k2 Wiki at http://www.metroid2002.com/prime3/

A lot of speed tricks are missing, but for sequence breaks, boss tricks, secret worlds, most of it is there already.
Does anyone know where to get Aurora unit 217 scan?  It's the onyl scan in the game I'm missing.  Gamefaqs' Logbook FAQ was a huge help.  It said "A missable scan, in Elysia".  Wow, thanks for the detailed description.  I could see a regular FAQ saying this, but a logbook faq?  C'mon now.

the Prima guide says it can be gotten anytime in the Aurora Chamber.

Yeah, AU 217 is in Elysia, and as far as I know it's still there at the end of the game so you should be able to go back and get it.
fuck you i wont do what you tell me
has anyone tried shoosting the phazon pods at the start of Elysia with the phazon beam instead of using hyperball?

It looks like if you could destroy the pods with the beam, it should be possible to get through.  then we could test the lasso concept.

but I doubt it would work anyways.  you can't swing across grapple points with just the lasso, so why should it work on ziplines?

I haven't tried, but if I remember correctly, there's a glass covering the phazon plant. It opens up when you step on the thingy with the morphball.

I tried that, but you need hyper ball.

In other news, I finished Veteran mode in 5:44. Bad, I know. But it was in one sitting, without ANY glitches, and with tons of mistakes. I even forgot where to go at some points. (Which only made me reenter the ship.) 53%, I died 5 times I think. And I only entered Morphball mode when I had to. So, considering all that, it is an OK time, no?

UBER EDIT: I got WAI too many missle tanks, but few were out of the way, and the ones that were I only got because I forgot where I was going. I WAS GETTING TIRED M'KAY? And it was my second time through.

(I didn't start it with intention of running it, more like "GET EPIC SCREENSHOT BEFORE I HAVE TO RETURN THE GAME ZOMG".

Played on Veteran by my brother. Pretty OK for a 100%-run without tricks, don't you think?
Metroid fanatic
I'd say so.

If there are such tricks as there were in MP1 and 2, I'd love to see them.
One thing concerning New game + files. Skippable cutscenes are not the only difference. All things that were scanned previously are still scanned (green). This could positively affect the runner, as mandatory scans will not take as long.
Stand: Devil's Call in your Heart
wouldn't loading negate that? most scan points are near loading points.
fuck you i wont do what you tell me
you can fall down the second half of both sides of the spiderball track in elysia after spiderball.  it looks pretty freaking sweet.

if it hasnt been noticed before, you stay in mid-air if you hold down the scan button after you've commanded your ship to do something.

you can skip the energy tank at the start of the game by ball jumping and bombing at the top of your jump to get into the little area at the end.

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is the first, non-port, really good game for the Wii.

I started playing this today, and already found a pretty nice glitch/trick timesaver already: (spoilers)

When you battle the Ice Guy Rundis(or whatever his name is)(END OF SPOILER) there's a pretty neat glitch that allows you to kill him really fast.
First of all, get off his ice protection. Then, Charge your beam, go close to him, Shoot. Back. Charge the beam at the same time as you walk backwards. He will now swing his ice sword at you, and when he has done that, get close to him and repeat the procedure. He won't do anything and his Phazon-form won't appear.

I don't think there's many timesavers or glitches found for this game, yet, and I think the one i mentioned above is the first one.

I've been thinking about a speed run of this game, and it actually looks like this game is pretty hard to sequence break.

Discuss.

As soon as there are a new trick found, I will update this post.

This game looks like it has a lot of potential. All though you can definitely tell that retro put more effort in trying to stop sequence breaking in this game but we all know how that turned out when they tried to do that in echoes lol. Im not sure how many items we'll be able to skip but thats what we are trying to find out. The only ones that im sure about are some of the energy cells. I saw  a video somewhere that showed that you don't need all the energy cells to complete Valhalla by falling re spawning in front of the last door.

I recently finished my first play through so ill be posting whatever I find here also.

if anything, i think the decision to split the game into planets came from the rampant SBing of the first 2 primes. that structure alone makes SBs much harder to find.

in a way, the community has changed the course of a game's develoment.

Think about that for a second.  Changing the game into different planets doesn't prevent sequence breaking at all.  Really, it's exactly the same as one planet with different "areas" on it.  What is a ship landing point in this game is EXACTLY the same as an elevator to a different area in 1 and 2.  I garauntee you that the game doesn't understand that there's a "difference".  Take any place where the ship lands, take out the ship, and put in one of those giant elevators instead.  Now select your destination, and replace the ship with the bottom half of the elevator.  Bam.  Same exact thing.  In fact, the fact that you're allowed to PICK where to go to next in this game, if anything, makes the game MORE breakable.
No, it makes the game much less breakable because the different areas aren't connected anymore. Some areas cannot be selected until you have cleared a previous area, and there is absolutely no chance that they will be accessed early because there's no other way to get to it.

Do we know enough to plan a route?  I want to start training.
