Defense system = pain in my @$$. I really don't feel like going to another planet jsut to grab another energy tank... but man. I heard somewhere that using a certain scanner with a certain beam (I know what they are, left out for spoiler purposes) will expose the weak point of pirates for a one-shot kill... but when I try it, it shows it for .1 seconds, then my visor gets the "missing channel on tv" syndrome. Does anyone know how to get rid of that, or what I'm suppossed to be doing?
Heres how it works. Roll jump hugging either the left or right wall, and when you exit into the open, springball, while still rolling, you'll get an instant unmorph. all you need to do is tap the upper platform and fall =)
IIRC, the room right after that, you have to cross a gap with 2 grapple swings. And then, you drop down with the golem and there's an Ice door to reach Hidden Court.
This trick lets you get the Bryyo Map and unlock Fiery Airdock without the Grapple Swing. Pretty sure you could get the Ice Missiles before grapple swing (no grapple required on Fire Bryyo, correct me if I'm wrong) but afterwards, you would have to get the grapple and then go for Ship Missiles upgrade...
Roll jumps and BSJs still work. A good place to try to sequence break might be on Norion (getting to the control tower (jumping over Ghor or something) before activating the generators might allow you to skip most of the planet) or Bryyo (get the other landing sites without Grapple Swing by using a roll jump).
Still on my first time through the game, though, so I'm not really looking for things yet. Also, there's probably going to be a lot more stuff posted on m2k2 than here, so check there every once in a while.
Skipping the grapple swing is pointless, you still need it for the rail levels in Elysia.
boost ball and spring ball can work you have to flick the remote at about the same second you let go of boost and move the analog in the direction you want to go, I dunno if it'd be useful but it gives 2, maybe 2 and a half times the distance of a normal spring jump
yeah, but by the time you come back to fire bryyo with ice missiles, you go right by where grapple is anyways iirc.
Grapple Swing is near Cliftside Airdock, not on Fire Bryyo. After getting Ice missiles, you have to get back to Cliftside Airdock to go upgrade your ship with missiles. That's when you would have to go get grapple swing, but it won't save time.
After re-reading your post, you probably meant "by the time you come back from fire bryyo with ice missiles" That is true and it's what I said in my post.
If we're splitting the run into difficulty modes (i.e. separate runs for Novice, Veteran, Hypermode) I'll take the novice any-% as soon as I get a handle on some of the tricks. Being able to encode my own runs to AVI is a great advantage
Another semi usefull trick in 100% Skip the entire morphball maze for 100% speed runs.
This trick is good for getting to the second poer generator to bomb with the ship., it saves having to backtrack 2 long rooms to lower the pipe shortcut after getting ice missiles. we could then just use the mouth shortcut trick, get ship missiles, and use the enemy boost to savethe trek
this is deffinatley an overall speed trick. it saves a few seconds if done perfectly. but this is also an example of how to get through Ruined Shrine when skipping the grapple Swing Temporarily (since eventually we need it)

There are no Reptilicuses in that room the second time through, just shield pirates.
Just beat the game on hyper-difficulty. Took me about 6 or 7 tries to beat the final boss. It's difficult, but not impossible. Although, I'm somewhat pissed, because I apparently missed an Aurora unit scan early in the game (217 I think?) and I KNOW I scanned her, so yeah. Gotta start ALL over again.
And it looks like the red phazonites only give you one yellow token for each room they appear in. So now I gotta go on a trek and find out what rooms they appear in, because I've severly short on yellows. No fun.
I think you can skip the first two doors on the grapple swing in Elysia, not just the first. I'll see if I can do it and upload a vid of it. If so, it would be a tremendously difficult trick only for a segmented run.

217 is the Skytown aurora unit. I don't think 242 is a scan.

But do we KNOW you need the Grapple Swing for Elysia? >_>
I mean, if you've actually skipped it for all of Bryyo and then tested it on Elysia, then just say so. But unless you haven't done that, I'd like to know your proof.

yes, the second room in Elysia has grapple points. you can get up to there without grapple swing but no farther.
So if we found a way past that (lol), do you think the ziplines would allow you to go through? They seem to work differently, but I never tried swinging from the zipline. >_>
An example of how to use future damage boosts. The turret I was near at the time was pretty weak. I have walked into pirates and have been knocked the distance of the entire gap in this video IN A SINGLE JUMP! dunno why I wasn't recording, but I felt the need to and these were the nearest enmies.
