I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I would like to see a Plant run on this game (MGS2), but only single-segment, instead of broken up like in Takeshi's video.

I would also really like to see an MGS3 run, however it would be nice if you could include THE END fight, as I'm sure it would be the highlight of watching the video for most of us.

I was working on a MGS3 run myself, until I realised that it would be a lot harder than I thought, so I'm gonna leave it to the pro's from now on. Wink
Roboticus is Champion!
Takeshi's run is single-segment. It's just divided into parts because of the streaming method it's distributed in.
The Only Legend's I Know Are Dead!
Firstly i like your style saxman52. lol.

Secondly. I let me state what my intentions are. in order

1. MGS3 speed Run (Segmented)
2. MGS1 Speed Run (Segmented)
3. MGS3 Speed Run (Single-Segment) (Including The End Fight)
4. MGS2 Speed Run (Full Game) (Segmented)
5. MGS2 Dog Tag Run (Full Game (Segmented)
6. MGS3 Kerotan Run (Segmented)

Okay well thats all of them. Of the above im currently working on 1 and 2. I may ditch 4 alltogether. If anyone wants me to change anything or change the order let me know?

For the MGS3 single segment, there's a method to kill The End early (and avoid the long battle)

From http://metalgearsolid3uk.entertainment-iuk.com/metal_gear_solid_3_i.txt :

Quote:
All right, in this area, if you choose to, you can accomplish something
totally awesome, and actually alter the game’s events.  If you got the Sniper
Rifle in Poinzovje West, it is possible to kill The End (yes, the boss, the
100-year-old sniper) early.  From your starting position, DO NOT MOVE.  Just
get out your sniper rifle and look through its scope.  You should see The End
getting wheeled away by a guard through a space in some boxes.  Aim through
that space, and shoot the guard to death first.  Now, put about 3 or four
REALLY QUICK shots into The End’s head before he can escape.  The End will
mumble “end...” and explode.  His wheelchair will fly towards your position.
Move out of its way.  Of course, if you don’t want to kill him, wait a bit
for him to be wheeled out.
Did I shoot 3 times or once from different angles
You can't get FoxHound Ranking if you kill someone. Or am I wrong, can you do that?

You're right, I just forgot about that there  :-[ .
The Only Legend's I Know Are Dead!
lol. That was obvious. 0 Kills is a must for Foxhound and i wont settle for anything but foxhound. But hey thanks for the tip anyway. What i have tried to do i quickly try and shoot im with the MK22 (Tranq Gun). But theres no way in hell that works. Anyway i think killing the end will only take me 7-10 minutes or so.

What you can do is look at his head with the scope and then press R1(FPS mode) right after you tap L2 to unequip scope. The camera will be aiming directly at The End so you could just shoot your MK22 with confidence. Although I heard that he discovers your loaction when you look at him with the scope. I'm guessing because of the glare of the big lense. You'll have to try it out.

I do know that  the long distance aiming works well. I've zoomed in on things and shot from far. Then I went to check it out and there was a bullet hole exactly at what I was looking.
The Only Legend's I Know Are Dead!
Yeah i use the Zoom Scope a few time in my run. However its not possible to shoot the end this this way in ponizovye. The time it takes to zoom with the scope then line it up then swtich to the MK22 than having to Press L2 and R2 to get up a bit higher becuase the crate is in the way otherwsie then aim a bit lower than shoot. And if you miss more than likely you will enter caution mode and then speed running is impossible. By all that time The End is allready half way out of the screen.

Well I meant you should use it on the actual battle with the end. But what ever.

That trick works well in the battle with Ocelot. You know the part where he yells out "A quick draw duel, it's the hear of any gun fight" or what ever. If you aim you gun at him he'll shoot you fast, so you have to tap the shoot button. But if you use the trick you could zoom in on his face and then unequip it and your already have your sights on his face.

It doesn't help ALOT but it it could give you alittle edge.
The Only Legend's I Know Are Dead!
Thats allright the distance between snake and ocelot during the fight isnt that much. Against Ocelot i just do it free handed.

Okay I was working for about 3 days non stop on MGS1. The game on extreme is far more difficult than i expected.

These were my results. I think theyre pretty good.

Rank: Big Boss
Kills: 23 (allowed 25 Kills)
Alerts: 4 (theres 4 alerts placed within the game that can't be skipped or missed).
Continues: 0
Saves: 10
Rations: 1
Time: 2 hrs 21 Minutes

One really hard thing about this game is that Snake doesnt recover any Life after defeating the bosses. So Snakes total energy capacity rises but his energy stays the same.  I dont think i could go much faster than 2 hr 20 minutes.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I got my Big Boss rank a few months ago.. and these were my stats:

Time: 2:14:54
Save: 19
Continue: 0
Being Found: 4
Enemies Killed: 20
Rations: 0

Of course i used a lot of saves cause i didn't feel like retrying too much. Yes, it is very hard.

I suppose you're playing the PAL version? From these times, i think it's likely that the lower framerate in the PAL version affects the game time. Cause i really wasn't that fast and i doubt i'd beat you by a whole 6 minutes, considering you think your time is pretty good.

I've played both the NTSC and PAL version of MGS1 and it's ridiculous how much slower the PAL version is.. Snake is running at half speed, and i guess it affects the game time. We need someone to calculate the differences. =]
The Only Legend's I Know Are Dead!
Yes that is suprising. I know that my game is also fairly old. There was a lot of times when the scenes began to freeze. The ending credits alone were i think 25 minutes long. Anyway i will get the game brand new again and then see what time i get. Thanks Thagen!
i take it neither of you are playing the PC version (ive never played PSX port)? in there, you can skip entire codecs (exiting out as opposed to quick text scrubbing) and most of the ending (Ocelot's conversation still has to happen).

... just something worth noting... maybe...
The Only Legend's I Know Are Dead!
Well thata all well and good. But i want to play MGS1 Pal version on PS1. Full Stop
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Yeah, the PC version will save you 20 minutes or more since you can skip codec calls completely and the faster loading when skipping cutscenes. It would also be more enjoyable to watch since you wouldn't have to watch several minutes of skipping text.

Only problem is that you'd have to take on Psycho Mantis with a keyboard, and i hear there's a bug near the end where a door just won't open. There's a way to get past it though, but you have to use some kind of cheat i think.

If it was just a better port - bug-free and with a way to fight Mantis with a controller, the PC version would be much better for speed running.
The Only Legend's I Know Are Dead!
I just dont think PC games are worth running unless they are PC exclusive. I mean who really would want to play Gran Tursimo, or MGS on your PC when you have a perfectly fine TV and surround sound system. Anyway games times will allways get beat, but gamers should only try to beat times on specific consoles. In other words If someone gets a record time for MGS1 on PS1 than others should beat that time on PS1, not on PS2 for example.
...i didnt mind playing MGS on PC... Cry

anyhow, thagen, the Psycho Mantis bug... i know theres one in the version you can get from p2p programs (its around 80 MB) where the game suddenly freezes when Meryl is about to blow her brains out. other than that, ive never had a problem with that battle (i actually brought the game after that happened).

anyhow, if you're not going to use the PC version, okie doke. its no real biggie about codecs or anything (its quite easy to FF w/ media players :D). id like to see the PAL version as well.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
The bug i mentioned isn't in the Mantis fight. What i said was that i don't think there's any way to fight him with a controller. Having to use a keyboard is very crippling.

The bug is near the end after inserting all the PAL keys.. the doors won't open again no matter what you do. It doesn't always happen.. i don't know what triggers it.

It's exactly the same, except for being incredibly slow.
The Only Legend's I Know Are Dead!
Yes i have just realised. Thtat I was actually playing the Copied vesrion or NTSC version of the game. I thought the copy was Pal version but instead its NTSC. So my time of 2 hr 21 was in fact in the NTSC version. However i have bought the PAL version and God is snake slow. Also My NTSC version is very corrupted the disc freezes at times so by finding out how much time ive missed by playing the PAL version. My Time of 2 hr 21 is closer to about 2 hr 05. Also the extreme is different in the PAL and NTSC version. the guards adopt totally different routes. Oh Well looks like im going to have to start the whole thing again on the PAL version. Having just completed it on easy. (so extreme becomes avaiable) Im guessing at time around 2 hr 30-40 Yeah Snake really is that Slow!!!
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
So the freezing made you lose 16 minutes in all? Sounds pretty corrupted alright.

The time might not be different in the PAL version.. that was something i said when comparing our times while i thought you were playing the PAL version. Might be that the time slows down along with the game, which would make sense considering the game has a ranking system and all. But i'm not sure about this. The actual video will of course be longer though. =]

Well, i guess we'll find out when you finish a run on the PAL version. Btw, the guards have different routes? I never noticed.
The Only Legend's I Know Are Dead!
Oh yes they do, and the camera angle is closer on the NTSC version. For some reason though i think thats only at the Heliport. But every scene and every gaurd has a totaly different route. As for the ending. I completed the PAL version and the ending took, 7-8 minutes. As for the NTSC it took 25 minutes. But anyhow i have the PAL version and hope the complete a speedrun mid this week.
The Only Legend's I Know Are Dead!
Ok as promised i did the Extreme PAL Big Boss run my final time was 2:25:00. I thought the run went well, This is probably around the fastest i can go. Im sure a sub 2:20 is nearly impossible. I may be able to get 2:23 or 24. So what do you reckon?
