Verification Files

http://v.speeddemosarchive.com/metalgear2/

Please refer to the Verification Guidelines before posting. Verifications are due by July 22, 2014.

Please post your opinions about the run and be certain to conclude your post with a verdict (Accept/Reject). This is not a contest where the majority wins - I will judge each verification on its content. Please keep your verification brief unless you have a good reason otherwise.

After 2 weeks I will read all of the verifications and move this thread to the main verification board and post my verdict.

cheating: none
A/V: very good

I'm not well versed with MG2:SS but to my best of knowledge I've seen some tricks on bosses from a dedicated stream on MG games. The runner did every move well. the only minor mistakes I noticed were during boss fights with some rng based. otherwise well done run.

I've watched the run and I have two questions before I make a decision.
1. Is it necessary to follow the guard around outside? (starts around 7:20 in the video)
2. I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to Metal Gear but is going for the Big Boss ranking the fastest way to beat the game?

1. yes it is necessary to follow the guard in the jungle. at least to my best of knowledge reading gamefaqs walkthroughs.
2. good point. I'm assuming this was meant to be Big Boss rank category and not any% run. I'm not sure.

Thanks.
Thanks. As a side note, there is a botched run attempt at the beginning of the video. Not a big deal though.

A/V is good. No cheating detected.

I've never played this game or seen footage of it until today so I am not very qualified on this game (or series) but this run seems very solid aside from the previously mentioned boss RNG, and one shouldn't let that stop an otherwise good run.  For a memorization and backtrack heavy game this run is very good. I wasn't able to find any other runs to justifiably compare it to. If SDA has a Big Boss category than it's a good spot for this run. If it still falls within Any% that works too (I get the feeling that the Big Boss and Any% are very similar while looking at other MG/MGS runs.). Regardless, I accept this run for publication.

What are the differences between a Big Boss run and a normal run?

Big Boss is the hardest rank having lowest kills, lowest alerts and no rations.

as for a normal run would be ignoring the Big Boss rank which I'm not entirely sure if it is faster. just to be sure I went searched for another run and only was able to find similar run Big Boss rank with 0:53:02.

as I mentioned in earlier comment I'm not 100% know about MG2:SS so just ignore what I said about Big Boss run being different category. sorry if I made some confusion :S

Decision posted.
Thanks to all the verifiers. I noticed the extra run attempt and I will make another version when I get back home next week

1. Yes, it's necessary. If you don't follow the guard, then the next boss, who has a keycard, won't appear.

2. The only real difference between Big Boss and any% is that in any% you can be more cavalier with kills, and that only matters on the final screen.

There's a few small improvements I can think of, the biggest being that you can kill Running Man without going for extra air after planting the mines, there was also some spots where movement might've been improved, but nothing major.
