Merry Christmas. I only got a $25 gift certificate to Barnes and Nobles. Oh well. Since I got a job 7 months ago I've bought about 1 game a week and many movies inbetween...so every week has been like Christmas for me. Grin
Still alive...
Man I think i got the strangest of all gifts.

A shitload of Alcoholic drinks. If I drink that all by myself I'm dead at the end of the week.

Merry chrismas to all (yeah i know I'm late ;)).
Merry Christmas to you all!

Someone is going to have a good night sleep after passing out with a food coma....

But today I once again discovered the awesomeness of carrot cake... Christmas rocks for that reason alone... that and Scrubs Season 2.

Edit: Kind of hard to use arrows pointing to the last poster if I'm forced onto another page....

I have had Halo 2 online for awhile and believe me when I say "you will get sucked in". I didn't get any games for christmas but I did rent Doom 3 which is pretty good.

Hey im not all about hatin on Console FPS gamers, I mean ive played Halo 2 at my friends crib a few times, I suck with a n00bstick, who knows how to get a mouse and keyboard to work with xbox? i know they have an adapter, but how do you set it so you can play halo 2 with it?

Besides the fact that you can't strafe jump and you moon jump, I think Halo 2 is a pretty good FPS  Grin

I'll probably get sucked in pretty fast when my friend Charles and I are in a game saying stuff like "The Arbiter had sex with your mother last night." Tongue

I see myself getting banned from X-box Live extremely fast, so all who want to play with me and kick my ass at Halo 2, should do so quickly when I subscribe.
PwNzRd!
I have 10 $25 gift cards, each to a different store, so I have some major shopping to do.
Rock on, Earthbound. Rock on.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all I say the Nintendo DS rocks my socks.  XD  Too bad it got dead pixels.  But that can be fixed with a simple return trip and a voucher for return value.  ^_^

In other news, as soon as we figure out how to make DS speedruns, SOMEBODY needs to get all over Kirby Canvas Curse.  The route planning alone in that game will be an amazing challenge.  o.O
I remember hearing somewhere that for Santa to visit all the houses that follow X-mas, he would have to spend about an eighth of a second at each house.
Yay. I got PoP: TTT, Airplane! (a classic), Family Guy volume 3, and Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes (totally wicked!). And way too much chocolate (I'm only one in family that likes it, so they give me theirs).
Now comes the time when you get more presents because some of your relatives wait for the post-X-mas shopping sales. Roll Eyes
ouch!
I got a cannon PowerShot A85 4mb Digital Cam and i bought a wide angle (fish eye) lense for it with my own money. and a 256mb memory card.

I made a music video of our Christmas party and it only took me 7 hours and Everyone likes it so far haha. Well if you want to see it. PM me bc i am not posting a link on here.
like....gah... ._.
I finally got my own computer, so I'm happy about being in MY room and actually being able to type this. Then I bought Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. It's great so far...n_n

Hey. Well, hopefully you enjoy it more than I did. It was good, but it just didn't live up to my expectations for the first Fire Emblem on the Gamecube.

Anyway, I had a list typed out of all the junk I got (telling friends of mine), so I guess I'll type it out again:

Kessen III, Kessen II (which I got early), digital camera, Cowboy Bebop (1-26 plus the movie), Back to the Future trilogy, Predator, socks, boxers, dress socks, pajamas, and a trenchcoat (which wasn't counted as a Christmas present).
Eternal Understudy
Back to the Future? Best trilogy ever!! I got that for Christmas last year.
This Christmas I got... absolutely nothing! I suggested putting off the gift giving portion of Christmas until my sister and brother-in-law show up for my birthday Jan 2nd.

True. For a Fire Emblem game, it's not the best, but I DO really like it so far. Heh, I guess that means that every other FE game is pure ownage.

As for things that I forgot to mention, I bought the DNAngel and Madlax thinpacks (I love Noir o_o ), and Zelda: Link's Awakening DX because I never got to play it...ever... ._.

Although I'm not keeping up anymore, this is true, more or less. It gets even more pronounced when you realize that other TRPG series have died (Ogre, Langrisser), switched genres (Shining, Arc the Lad), or stagnated (Wars, NIS stuff). And when they are released, it's almost always for portable consoles nowadays, which to me is a sign of mediocrity. So Path of Radiance is at least a step in the right direction.
Rock on, Earthbound. Rock on.
Portable games are a sign of mediocrity?  I'll challenge that.  Megaman Zero is awesome, and the Wars series has been well received in every incarnation to date.  Fire Emblem of course is excellent, and I'd argue that it was better on GBA than on GC, if only for the better animation and the art style.  Sonic Rush is generally considered the best Sonic game since Sonic and Knuckles, as far as I'm aware, and Mario Kart DS is the most technically deep game in the series, currently.  and of course, games like Lumines (see, I don't ONLY care about Nintendo portables!) are addictive beyond belief, and with advancements in the portable gaming scene, fully developed 3D platformers are even possible, like Super Mario 64 DS and Tokobot.

Portables are not mediocre systems, especially not now, and they certainly are not holders of only mediocre games.  I'm enjoying my new DS more than the home consoles lately.
I got fire emblem:TSS  Grin RE4 for ps2, a snare drum..., some farside books, an airsoft gun, a bible, a knife (yes a gun a knife and a bible...) some books, and... Michaelangelos numchaks with included ninja turtle mask and electronic sounds  Shocked Grin Any one else get a toy for ages 4 and up... Grin
Rock on, Earthbound. Rock on.
I got a stuffed animal kitty and penguin, does that count?

I figured I wouldn't be able to get away with my overly generalized statement! Well first, I don't have a PSP or DS, so I can't comment on those. I haven't heard great things about their software libraries though. Of course you can find counterexamples and list them, like you have. But I am only speaking in general. And I think we'll both agree it applies less for original titles (Lumines, Tokobot, MMZ) and more for ports and gaidens of console series, which is what I mostly think of.

I'm not implying causation (that is, that being portable makes a game suck), only correlation. I think that with many developers, they decide to mail in a port or gaiden as a quick moneymaker, and that in turn leads to the decision to make it a portable and to the lowered quality of the game, usually through lowered development resources and inferior teams. As many examples as you can name, I can name a lot more (some of these are mostly my opinions that many would disagree with) just on GBA like Mario, DKC, Mario Kart, Mario RPG, Metroid, Zelda, Castlevania, Final Fantasy, Lufia, Final Fantasy Tactics, Tactics Ogre, Kingdom Hearts, more stuff I don't feel like remembering, and port after port. I had so much hope for the GBA when it was billed as a portable SNES, but I can not even think of a single series spanning handheld and console where the best game is on the GBA.

Basically all I'm saying is, if your favorite company announced that your favorite series was getting a new game, would you rather hear that the platform was a console or handheld? If you say handheld, more power to you. But I think you would agree with me that in most cases, for whatever reason, going handheld is a sign of weakness in a series or genre, and that's what I'm talking about with the TRPG genre.

Hey. Well, in my biased Fire Emblem 4 opinion, you really have to set yourself in an ancient mode to even stand completing 1, 2, 3, and 6 (all of which I have not completed).

As for Enhasa's view on portables, I don't completely agree. I do realize the potential greatness of console strategy games though. The thing is, I have yet to really see the full potential of the console used (for games that have had portable stuff in the series).

Mother 3 is coming out on GBA - not even the current handheld anymore. So? That doesn't mean it's going to be a lackluster game. It's because the development team had trouble with 3D back when it was slated for the N64, and they thought it would work better with 2D graphics.

If there is a large quantity of crap on handhelds, I think it's more due to the crap that popular consoles always get (See: NES, SNES, PS1...), and less due to some inherent quality of handhelds.

P.S.: Fusion is better than Super, and Circle of the Moon, Aria of Sorrow, and Dawn of Sorrow all are better than Symphony of the Night.
