OK, so today I went to play some SSBM and it was playing good until I got a trophy and it Auto-Saved.  Then it said "Your Memory Card" is corrupted and needs to be formatted" so I reset my system and tried to figure out what the problem was.  Now, it wouldn't let me play the damn game with the memory card inserted.  I tried letting the game re-format my memory card but it keeps saying the message over and over again.

I then tried to see if the memory card still woked with my other games that I had files of on it.  None worked.  I kept getting the same stupid message.

Does anyone know how or why this happened and also how I can fix it?  Or do I have to go buy a new memory card?  Losing ALL my save data of ALL my games.  Cry

If it's a 3rd party card (especially if it's by Madcats) they're sometimes not reliable cards to be using.  Usually it's completely worthless to get them on Sony systems, though generally there's less problems with them on Nintendo systems.  Mine I believe is by Interact which has been good to me.

But if formatting doesn't fix it, the card is generally toast.  And you could have at least saved your SSBM data if you left the system on and plugged in a different card.
Hm... how can I put it nicely...

You're screwed.

Did you try going through the Memory Card menu when booting up the GCN? (hold A and go down when you press Power)

Don't worry though. If you want all of your files back, buy a new memory card (made by Nintendo), and play all of your games again. Everything should be much faster than beofore.

Happened to me once with a Hipgear memory card.

Yes, it's a Hip Gear memory card...  Probably why.  I'll just buy a real memory card instead of a 3rd party one.  Getting all this data back will take awhile...
I'm not sure if this helps, but my True Crime:NYC was corrupted on a 3rd-party memory card (I forgot its brand name, all it says on it is "GC 64MB Memory Card").  I tried re-formatting it several times, but luckily it never worked.  I then took out the card, let it "cool down" for about 10 minutes(that wasn't my intention, and I'm not quite sure why I did that) put it back and fired up the GC, and the data came back!  I hope that works, though the TC:NYC data was the only data that was 'corrupted', not the whole card like yours.

Kitten said that he/she had tried multiple games, and I'm pretty sure he/she would've stopped playing on the GCN for a while.

That also worked for me, but only for a while. I also blew in the memory card, but eventually, I was forced to reformat it all.
Ok...I just wanted to make sure that he knew about this before he buys a new card only to find his old one still works a week later when the return policy expires ;).  When it happened to me, I tried reformatting it several times with the Cube still on(it wouldn't let me load, instead claiming it was corrupt, etc.), and decided it wasn't going to work.  I even reset it, playing around in the memory card screen a bit, but THAT didn't fix it either, so I posted a message at GameFAQs to see if anyone knew how to fix it, but the problem somehow fixed itself: I went to start a new file with the same memory card shortly afterwards, as none of the other game 'slots' were corrupt, and found that the old one was loadable.

Also, in his first post, he said that he could not reformat the memorycard, and that rung a bell, and I figured I should chime in.
