Is it just me, or was the maneuvering at intro 2 a bit sloppier than in the original run? Prolly just me... anyway. I have to agree with Satoryu here; seeing both how well you did with Dragoon using half-charged shots (and how fast it was), and seeing the Ice Wall used about as well as it is possible to use once you got up, I'm very sure that using half-charged shots would shave off some time. The wait with the Ice Wall is long, especially in the first fight. This would also let you start with Stingray, if you wish, to have a bit more control on the luck department.
While I'm at it, I noticed you were always jumping high whenever a scripted event took place (wherein you have to wait for X to drop down). I lost the count because I was too busy gasping at your mad performance... <_< but I think you might have lost around five seconds because of that. This assumes that these scripts do not take the same amount of time not matter what your altitude is.
Other than that, it's a great run, and I enjoyed it. IF you plan to go over it one more time, you should look into those things, though.

Just tried it out, you're right Shadow Jacky (I swear I tried this once and it didn't work), but I don't think I'm going to redo my run anytime soon because it only saves about 6-7 seconds. My only question is why didn't you tell me this when I announced the run a couple of months ago
65 and Satoryu: Do some tests on Jet Stingray yourselves, I'm done with this game for now. I might do another run later, but most of the mistakes that pissed me off in the old run are gone now.
Regarding scripted events, they trigger when you reach the trigger point, your height doesn't matter. If you need proof of this, listen when the warning sound triggers in Intro part 2 or Final Weapon part 2.
In that case I just need to get that game once again in my possession. Currently, I don't have a copy, and you know it. I have gotten myself a different type of controller, so it's possible that I can work out the control issues the PC version has, if I can get that game. At any rate, you're distracting me from my main project. I need to finish it, no more testing of other shit; I've wasted enough of my attention to other games, for now. And now I'm truly sidetracked. [glare]
Satoryu: As for those half-charged shots... I was entangled by the words there (what an awful way of putting it), I meant as you said it, but now that you mentioned it... I think one might get some leverage by inserting half-charged shots in there while changing the distance, since the invulnerability period wears off before you have a full charged shot anyway. It might get tricky, but it's probably faster, and this way you'd deal with the pesky minion fishes in time, before they reach the other end, and thus, you.
Also I would like to underline and starken that anyone who follows a runner's progress who has or thinks he/she has a good/better strategy that isn't currently implemented per runners comments of the progress, I strongly encourage anyone in such state of mind to speak out (unless you're planning a direct and on-going competition with the said runner, of course, and in that case it's your business). What happened here was unnecessary.
Besides, even if you state something that is already known, no matter; the space is vast and it might lead to a break-through anyway, witness TyrantX's comments concerning X6 invincibility abuse, for example.
Heh, now I'm back in the real subject. I have been slacking, indeed, but I did come across a possible way to dodge Dual Cell's thunder attacks. See this of "DeathScytheKO"'s videos. Dunno if he's just lucky, though, but I'm guessing not since he relies on it so much. Obviously, it would slow me down, but I think using it once in a tight spot wouldn't hurt much.

Actually, I was referring more into the Cyber Peacock's level's direction. That type of scripts, where the following action is instant. Of course it does not make any difference in the boss fights.

just to clear things up before they arise, this only applies to X4. for X5 and 6, the WARNING doesn't occur until you're on the ground.

well I was going through the topic to see if anymore posts were up, but the majority was talking about X5 and 6 mostly. Then I saw you did an improvement, but didn't read you had recorded a run. Next thing I know I check SDA last night and your run is up. I'm sorry as it slipped my mind when I first posted. I would love to get back into the game myself, but I dont have a DVD recorder. That's one of the first items I will be purchasing when I get my job.
also while I look at your run over again, just 2 things.
1) on the PS1 version, is it possible to hold down the dash button and just keep jumping for dash jumps? I noticed you would dash then jump, but I was never sure if being able to hold down the dash button and still perform dash jumps and wall dash jumps worked only on the X Collection games. Not that it would save more time, but I found it easier than to repeatedly pressing the dash button. I know this works on X5 and 6 as well, but I forget if it works on older games too.
2) I also noticed you did fewer shots on the breakable barriers. It might be the quality of the run I downloaded (normal mp4 btw) or was it that spamming shots wasn't necessary?

1. ARGH. I didn't know this :(. Wouldn't save more than a second or two (I didn't screw up many dashes), but it would help my execution.
Nate translation: You wouldn't miss anything on nq mp4 because all of the frames are displayed.
2. There's a firing cap in the game. I can fire a lot faster than the game lets me.
heh, man I should have really said some things here :/
thanks for the info.
well 1 more thing I remember, when getting the last of the armor in magma dragoon's stage, its possible to jump to the platform without needing the ride armor.
well now I'm looking forward to the future X5 and X6 runs.
I got a time of 25:04. I died twice, though; once in the spikes on the first shaft of Gate's Lab 1 (due to my own mistake) and later in the last level's last part, where I dropped to my death because of a damned bat, heart-breakingly enough. Also, Gate was being Gate again, so it took about twice as long as usual to kill him, I think. I've done a few little tweaks to the in-level routes, since I can run the game better now, which contributed to the saving.
With the ~minute to gain by not dying, half a minute worth of mistakes (well, likely less, but...) and a little luck with High Max, Dual Cells and Gate I put a new estimate of a desired goal to 23:30.00. They were quite mean to me this time around (speaking of the amount of time they made me lose), so I do mean a little bit of luck should do. Let's see if I can get under that estimate.
I'm feeling confident with my route, tactics and skills, so I shall commence recording. I'll keep you posted.
I've been doing recorded attempts now and then during the passed time since my last post.
I achieved a new best time of 24:35, which is recorded on my DVD-recorder. I... died. Once. I was killing Dual Cells, and everything went according to plan, until it shot a bullet in an unexpected direction (and prohibited me from doing a double jump over it, which I was already doing) and promptly killed me. This mistake cost me around a minute (would've cost more, but I killed it in almost two rounds after I died... one hit away from that). High Max was being a dick so it might give me some room for improvement if I get lucky in the future. Overall, I wasn't lucky, either, so that's not what pains me the most. I was so close...
Just letting you know that I got a deathless run just now. I was pretty unlucky, Sigma's last from stalled forever before opening its mouth, I wasted more than 30 seconds trying to get the sub tank (until I finally succeeded), Dual Cells could have been more vulnerable and so forth. Still, deathless is deathless, so it's a new mile stone.
Time was 25:04, so it wasn't even a personal best. No sweat, I'll nail it before long, I'm sure of it. I'll just keep beating the game until I get a decent time out of it. Again, and again, and again.
Edit: Oh, and it so happens that I actually pulled off the "portal death" glitch if anyone wants to see it. Of course, it's of no real use, but it's kinda funky in action, you know?
There you go. I included a description along with the video, but for what causes it or if it can be capitalized somehow is beyond me.
It might be some sort of mix-up with the sounds by the game, too, since the death animation isn't really shown, the screen darkens too fast; I watched it frame by frame. Goes well with the "get hit by a stationary block" glitch, though.
