Hi! I run Mega man x5 and with it being a rather unpopular game for speedrunning the only wr times I have to look at are the SDA ones and they show single segment and segmented, should I be looking at just the single segment runs time?

Luiz_miguel has a 51:13 Any% all stages time.

the time zewing posted is in RTA time. I'm not sure if SDA would go by in-game time for X5 anymore, since the community has generally agreed upon RTA time.

Regardless, if you want to look into running x5, there's the SDA knowledge base with some of the basic single-segment routes as well as the mechanics behind parts and such.

Why would it change? X5's timer would fall in line with the other timers that omit loading screens and cutscenes and etc, like the GBA Metroids and Primes.

RTA takes into account taking the time to equip parts, exiting levels, and so on. One time, sneaky timed suiciding to get hyper dash two stages earlier, and it was less than 20 seconds slower IIRC. However, it is almost definitely faster for in-game time since it doesn't take into account the amount of time needed to go to the pause screen and exit the level, and so on.

Another example is izzy glow's stage. luiz_miguel uses dark hold to freeze the spike crushers, then he goes to the pause screen and unpauses to cancel the dark hold. This eats up a lot of RTA time, and might not even make using dark hold worth it, but it saves in-game time.

Basically it just isn't consistent. There are ways to lose RTA time that gain in-game, and vice versa, that are very big, especially with the enigma shot. I personally don't really mind in-game time honestly, but AFAIK the speedrunning community now goes by RTA time (aka luiz_miguel, sneaky, zewing, etc), and I believe SDA timing was to go by what the community goes by if there are significant differences?

If anything you would have a run optimized using In Game time and a run optimized for RTA.

My problem with RTA is if you want to compete and have a run accepted to SDA, you'd need to get the cannon to work. Which is really annoying. Even moreso for racing, cause if someone gets the cannon to work in a race, they'd have a huge advantage.

Also, load times would have to be removed from RTA times in order to make all versions equal like X4. Remember, the PC version has no load times at all.

@kirby Do you mean suiciding right at the beginning so Grizzly is the first boss you fight?

As for Izzy's stage, I'm confident using Dark Hold is not worth it. Hell it should probably only be used on Skiver. Honestly for Izzy's stage I think Ultimate Armor would be the best way to get through.
I think RTA have much problems to so if I want compare my runs with others I use in-game time

Satoryu, I read somewhere that the chance of enigma shot suceed depends on your pattern during the gameplay
so the only stage I go after all Virus Stages and before Sigma is Skiver, this is why I use Zero, even in Dark Dizzy (I done some good strats for this stage)
I tried your route for a single segment run but I never got the shot to work
Sounds like Maverick talk to me.

I read somewhere that every jump, slash and virus  you get hit by effects the result of the enigma.  overall, i just think the way the shot is determined is an enigma.

I used to think stage order had something to do with it too. But then the order I was using no longer worked.

According to the TASers the only thing that manipulates it is the flashing that occurs in the cutscene after beating the intro stage. Which is just completely out of our hands.

WOW!! Interesting find. Now according to the TASers, does each flash represent a success to a failure and vice versa?
