I've done an SS run of Mega Man Legends in 57:02.

I made about 50 seconds to a minute of mistakes, and they're all sprinkled throughout the run, but none of them were more than 3 seconds. Most of them were little ones, at about 0.5 to a second each, but it all added up in the end -_-

This run is special to me because I got 90% lucky with zenny drops and monsters, which allowed me to do everything as planned. This rarely happens (only the third time in 2 weeks), so I made sure not to fuck it up. The other 2 times I was killed...

A few times I nearly lost control of some fights, like 2 of the 3 Sub Cities and the first plane going right instead of left at the Sky fight, and the auto-aim screwed me over a few times, but I think I handled it well.

I ended up with 2000 zenny excess but that's seconds I'm willing to absorb. 5 attempts before that I was atleast 3000 short from stingy drops from the tanks, bull dozers (the mini-Marlwolf's at City Hall), the little pinhead dudes, the two boxes near the Buster Unit, and the 3 giant dogs not dying in-sync (which meant some of the money disappears before I can get it w/o getting killed). Because of that I had to make do without 1 or 2 upgrades for the Active Buster.

This time the tanks were fair, but everyone and everything else were generous. Any excess is good as long as I don't fall short, and at that point I was ripping my hair out!

Another thing is that I got some sweet boss fights, with an optimal Marlwolf fight (36 seconds from when the fight starts), optimal Lake fight (went down in 2 turns. In easy you can defeat it in 1 turn) and a flawless victory over Mega Man Juno.

-----------

I used diagonal running as much as possible and the rapid fire trick.

For the key fights, I came up with some new strategies. Early on I made the most of the splash mine until I got the grand grenade. Twice I switch to 'manual' aiming to blow up the fake 'wall' at the Clozer Ruins and for Bruno, so I can get close and let loose (even then, the auto aiming kicked in and screwed me up for a bit).

That's it, for the moment. If anyone's interested or would like to know anything else, I'm happy to answer.

I'll try to get 55-56 minutes, but I doubt I'll get the same zenny drops, enemy spawns and enemy behaviour as I did in this run anytime soon, considering how often it's happened so far, but we'll see. That's about 90% lucky...

100% runs=great to watch
Sounds cool...I'm sure I'm far from the only person now looking forward to seeing this.  8)  Great job!
My feelings on The Demon Rush
Is this game slower on PAL systems?

Anyways, nice job, hope to see your run soon.

The PAL version is slower, but in this case I was playing the NTSC version on a PAL console. I'm not sure if this will affect my time, but by the end of the game the recording time was always 6-7 minutes ahead of the game clock.

So one of two things is happening: the game clock doesn't count some stuff like loading the next room (makes sense), or it really does have to do with me playing on a PAL console. Maybe both...

I ran Ifrit's segment 1, from his run, through TMPEG, snipping out loading times and cutscenes. His semgent 1 is already 2 minutes ahead of the game clock. I haven't gotten a handle on what exactly the game clock is excluding because I haven't matched the remaining video to the save time yet.

I probably have to settle with this run (the little mistakes really standout. To me anyway). I tried a few times last night and the game was stingy with the zenny drops on every attempt.
yay!!! about time! Tongue
Ok, I sent the run though I hesitated to because of the mistakes. Well, it's too late now Tongue

I did a new game+ run, which is basically running the game on Easy Mode because you start with the Jet Skates and Buster Max. I think Easy Mode is exactly the same as Normal Mode save the extra gear you begin with and that the zenny drops are multiplited by 4, though I've never run the game w/o using the Buster Max and did any tests.

Anyway, my Easy Run is 43:56 but I'll try and get it lower because I got unlucky with some fights and nearly lost control of Bruno.

I might put together a Q&A in this topic, seeing as there's some new stuff that may need explaining and why some boss fights look weird.

About the game clock, it doesn't count loading times, like the little cutscene of MegaMan going through doors and the screen blacking out, but it does count cutscenes.
i cant wait to see these. im just glad the run was under one hour. this run is actually 3 minutes lower than my best so im excited. Grin
Easy Run down to 43:07 (low seconds again...), with only 30-32 seconds of mistakes.

Sounds alright, but problem is that 20 seconds was lost at the beginning of the game, from saving Mr. Junkshop to Bon Bonne, because of some seriously f***ed up BS bad luck. I know some bad luck can really cost you, but this was ridiculous.

Bosses suddenly going invincible (rare, but most of them decided to this time, which is REALLY rare), the big yellow robot refusing to flinch, f***ed up monster warping (that started the whole f***ing mess)... After that though, the rest of the run was good with only 10 seconds of mistakes.

On the flip side, the robots at City Hall didn't wander off like they usually do, which usually costs up to the same amount of time I lost with Tron, who decided to move twice, and all the bad luck explained above...

Anyway, I'll get a high 42 minutes, then that's it.

PAL consoles only have one real difference to NTSC ones in terms of video mode, and that's what the default mode is. NTSC play on PAL consoles is usually identical to NTSC play on NTSC consoles. I'm sure it's the same for the PSX.
Yeah, I tested it before and found the clock isn't affected by me playing the game on a PAL console. It's as accurate for me as it was for Ifrit.

However, I have heard of one case where a game's clock was slowed down because a guy played the NTSC version on his modded PAL console. I don't remember it well, but I think it was a run for Twin Galaxies.

Easy Run in 42:52, with about 30 seconds of mistakes. It's okay and most of the mistakes weren't bad, save 4 of them.

When I fought the 3 dogs, I misjudged their actions and got flamed twice, breaking my shield. This was largely due to being caught off guard after they ALL went out of sync... I played the rest of the game without running to Data for help, though. Only 3 seconds lost here.

When I fought Bruno one of the green orbs went through a fence instead of destroying it, and with my shield already broken I nearly died from it. It hardly had an effect on my time, though (I would've been avoiding it and watching the next orb, otherwise).

At the plane fight, the auto-aim didn't kick-in and the first plane escaped. I lost 6 seconds looking for it...

The biggest mistake was when I didn't kill one of the tanks in the first sub-city because of bad judgement. It was just one shot shy of dying and I had to hunt it down for 12 seconds to finish it off. It happened again in the next sub-city, but it only cost me half a second or so.

Despite the mistakes, I got the luck I needed to finally beat 43 minutes. However, I want to have one more shot and get 42:40-42:30.

Watching back the 42:52, I regret sending in the 57:02. It's not bad by any means, I just found some more stuff that could save more time. I really thought I couldn't do any better but...

Anyway, one more shot at the ER, then that's it. I'll return to the Normal Run for sure, but probably not anytime soon.

Nice to see people are still improving on MML runs. Any plans for MML2 when you finish?
i really cant wait for the normal mode run.....i meant to do this run like....2 years ago?! Roll Eyes

It's been frustrating attempting the Easy Run. All this time I haven't even matched 42:52 yet. My closest was 42:59...

The hardest part of the run is, believe it or not, from the start all the way to the end of the first sub-gate, because I refuse to let in any mistakes on my part and I'm trying my luck against Tron not moving in Downtown. Otherwise, that's 8 seconds lost. Bang. You can't defeat her until she moves back because that's where she's supposed to be in the next cutscene.

Also I have to be lucky when I go to rescue Mister Junkshop, but the bots only keep away 3/10 tries. It varies alot because of the robot worms.

Basically, anything that goes wrong before I complete Cardon Sub-Gate is a reset.

From there, I'm hoping that the bots in Downtown Sub-City don't wander off before I reach them (you can determine how they'll behave by watching where a specific car drives in said town at the beginning of the game. From there, you can decide how you might have to deal with the Sub-City), and that miss MegaMan 'pretty boy' Juno isn't a bitch and decides to tackle and jump everywhere for both forms like a cheeky prick...

At this point, anything close to 42:40 will do.

Zero_EXE: MML2 is a big maybe at the moment. We'll see how it goes depending on real-life. Is Aaron Hayes is still working on his MML2 run, btw?
Ok, I've decided to send in the Easy Run in 42:52 and see how it goes (I'm worried that one big mistake I described earlier is grounds for rejection, which is why I held on to it).

I've been trying for what feels like years and still haven't managed to even beat my second best time of 42:59...

I won't be able to play video games for a while, and rather than waiting weeks to heal then spending potentially another 6 months saving those 15-20 seconds, I can improve it later on after the 42:52 is posted/rejected.
