The Mega Man Legends run is completed!

I got a perfect battle against Mega Man Juno but I accidently went to the menu twice in between battles trying to skip the oncoming movie. I was getting a little ahead of myself.

Im now going to write up some comments before I do anything with it.

My completed time (according to the game at the end of the credits) was 01:08:25! I got 11 minutes under my goal time of 01:20:00.
Alright.....the tape is being sent in the mail tomorrow and will be posted soon...I hope.
Finally got the tape sent. It shall be there in 3 days.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Excellent work, I can't wait to watch it. Cheesy
nice! looking forward to your run, Ifrit
Did I shoot 3 times or once from different angles
My computer broke down(I'm at my cousins house) so I haven't been able to keep up with my constant verbal harasment towards Ifirit.

Congrats on making a speed run on this game. When I fix my computer I will be able to see it then but until then I can only kick my self at not being able to see a run for this game when one finally comes out.

Everyone else, get off you asses and make more speed runs for this game. I will too once I get a copy of it.

I just saw it and it was really good. The only things I don't like are:
-You getting hit in 2 min. long segments
-Not useing your special weapons before saving and ending a segment. You could make short work of enemies but you decide to stick to your buster. Any reason for that?
-Running off ledges when you could jump off them and keep going straight. It seems faster.

Besides that it seems great. You already said you'll imporve it some later day so I'm just whinning.

At that point I just wanted to finish the run.

I do not know why I didn't do that. I doubt I would use the Powered Buster killing the enemies though.

I dont know if that is faster. I will try it when I get back to practicing.

This run will be improved after my birthday, which isn't far away. (Next week actually)

Cool. happy Future Birth Day. On a side note. Will anybody like to do a Legends 2 run?
I was thinking of doing a Mega Man Legends 2 run someday in the future. I do not know when though.

Heh, I played Mega Man 64 back in the day... the game sure seems a heck of a lot shorter than I remembered, even keeping in mind that it's a speed run. Too bad I was broke and had to sell off my entire 64 and library to get new games... and now I'm buying everything back again. ^_^;

Anyway, stupid segment 15 didn't download right so I have to get that again. Still, that was fairly cool. Your comments though are like, "On this one part I accidently paused for .35 seconds before moving. That's never happened before and it won't ever happen again." I mean, if you can do better, great, but it got kinda silly.

Is diagonal walking faster than normal walking? If so, you really need to diagonal walk a lot more.

Sorry about the comments......... :(.

I have not tried that. Diagonal walking does look a little faster. I will try it out maybe tonight or tomorrow.

TOPIC REVIVAL!

I tried to speed run some other games before returning to this but I changed my mind (I will try Mega Man 3 again after this is finished, I promise. Also I'm still testing Final Fantasy for NES.)

I watched my run around 2 or 3 times now and have come up with some ideas on how to improve it. Please comment on any of these and/or come up with some others. Im always open to ideas and will be willing to test it out.

*Note: I have not tested any of these out yet as these are only my suggestion. I will test them out when I have time (by the way, College sucks...)

General
-------
1. I had the suggestion of whether running at an angle is faster than running straight towards the next destination. After watching it, it does seem that it is faster.
2. When I was running the game I must have had a memory lapse of some sort and forgot what rooms were coming up. This time I will be sure to be running or whatever during the loading to continue the speed.
3. Question. I played this on a PS2 but without those settings you can change (forgot what they are called). Would the time be faster changing them because of faster loading? I think so.
4. Less segments would really help this run. A small chunk of time in the run is spent with Data because of saving. I think less segments would be good and using those PS2 settings mentioned earlier (sorry, can't remember the name) would help what segments are in tact.

Segment 01 (00:08:37)
----------
1. Can the battle in the first dungeon before the crash on Kattleox Island be faster? Im not sure, but would like to know from everyone else.
2. I was contemplating whether you had to talk to everyone but I think you do in order to start the next event. Im not sure though.
3. The battle in Downtown. I had a suggestion as to improving it by using the Mines. I know the mines will not work against the middle section of the boss but I think it might work on the legs. I have not tried it.

Segment 02 (00:14:50)
----------
1. I need help defending City Hall. Anything would help.
2. Cleaner Bon Bonne battle.
3. Do I really need the Safety Helmet? This time I will not accept cheap hits and most damage I received in my previous run. (I just answered my own question, I realize this.)

Segment 03 (00:17:18)
----------
1. Do I need to destroy the treads? I realize it slows it down but I could (maybe?) go ahead and jump on top and destroy the hatch.
2. Could where you be standing trigger a certain attack (birds or Servebots)?
3. I would only allow Servebots to come out of the hatch. This would result in a battle that is done after the 3rd appearance by a Servebot.
4. Maybe when Im running around doing nothing I could go destroy some tanks for money if I do it within time.
5. When selecting the Powered Buster, is going down faster than up?

Segment 04 (00:23:52)
----------
1. Should I use the Powered Buster on the tanks. Doing so could result in the Spotter Car getting to the gate faster.
2. Is the dungeon path the fastest? I believe so. Of course this time there will not be mistakes such as missing a key. (Idiot!)

Segment 05 (00:27:13)
----------
1. I had some trouble at the Junk Shop. I could save a second or two. (Woo hoo!)
2. Could calling Roll in downtown be faster than running to uptown, then calling her? I think so.

Segment 06 (00:35:00)
----------
1. I think all I need here is to aim better as I have done this faster.

Segment 07 (00:41:02)
----------
1. I need to do the dungeon cleaner. I believe it is the best path but the cheap hits from enemies I cannot see will not be accepted.
2. I haven't thought of this until now. Maybe the Powered Buster could do some damage against the boss. That or better aim.

Segment 08 (00:49:03)
----------
1. When talking with Gramps I need to test which answers would be quicker to shut him up.
2. ....jet skates....ugh...
3. I believe a better wolf battle would suffice. In that battle I ran around more than I wanted to and had to start running the other way which kind of confused me while playing.

Segment 09 (00:53:18)
----------
1. Little trouble when upgrading. No trouble this time.
2. Biggest mistake here is against the cannons on the side. I just need to aim better and probably set up better.
3. My Tron battle in the sky needs some shaping up. I could hit her a lot more when shes flying and when shes over head I need to move to a better spot and attack from there.
4. Again with Gramps, which answer would be faster?

Segment 10 (00:56:11)
----------
1. No love for the Jet Skates.
2. Improve the Bruno battle. I messed up after his first attack and didn't get enough hits in. This time, destruction after 3 attacks.

Segment 11 (00:58:00)
----------
1. Jet Skates...again?!

Segment 12 (00:59:45)
----------
1. Better use of the Active Buster.
2. Would calling Roll be faster than running over to her Spotter car?

Segment 13 (01:02:01)
----------
1. As previously stated in my comments, I know how to fix it. Of course, I am still open for comments.

Segment 14 (01:04:17)
----------
1. Is it safe to run between the enemies?
2. More Jet Skates.
3. For a personal preference I would like to change the Buster Parts before saving. This is to make restarting the next segment better for me.

Segment 15 (01:08:25)
----------
1. Possible cleaner battle.
2. Are the boots needed for this battle? Not using them would result in possibly more hits due to less hangtime. Using them would result in helping me against the "How about this?" attack (to refresh memories, when MegaMan Juno shoots rainbow lasers from his? arms). I guess I need to see.

That is what I have come up with and suggestion recieved so far. As I said earlier, more is welcome. I will probably begin testing some of these Friday after school ends. We shall see.
Did I shoot 3 times or once from different angles
Yes!! More legends. You should time the running sideways thing. Because the camera is closer to you and allo you see it the stuff pass you by. Soit's going to look faster. But maybe it isn't.

I think it's disc speed that you have to chage... or something. I don't have the game so I wouldn't be able to givew you more accurate help. Sorry.
Signboard of Hyrule
Was there any feedback from Megaman Legends Station after the current run was posted?  Darfox8 posted on that forum to generate interest in a speedrun, but that topic has long since vanished.  It would be interesting to know what kind of pointers they would have, given Ifrit's run as a reference.  They may even provide some competition Smiley

Best of luck to you.  This is a fun game to see speedruned. Can't wait to see how much lower you can go.
Well, I forgot about that site. Darn.

Anyway, time for an update.

I tested the diagonal running vs. running straight. The winner is...diagonal running. I tested it in 2 places. First, outside the Apple Market where the Support Car (correct name this time) is located before Roll fixes it up. I ran from one side to the other. It was around 8 seconds for running straight whereas it was around 7 seconds for diagonal. The second area tested was before the battle with the  tanks when you see Roll running to the Downtown area. In my run (Segment 1) you can see that when I reach the door I am running beside Roll. When running diagonally, I am a good distance ahead of her at this moment.

I think changing those settings will not be an option. It does make saving at Data faster but sometimes it gets hung up when loading the next area. So thats out of the question.

Defending City Hall is still giving me some trouble because of the incredibly horrible auto-aiming feature in this game but I think I might have it though. I need to test it out some more.

The Bon Bonne fight is definately much better.

I do not collect the Safety Helmet any more. No real use for it.

In Segment 2, when I go to collect the Cannon Kit (Powered Buster) I go around. I tested out my jumping theory and it is possible to jump from the bridge to the chest. That saves some time and is much safer actually.

I think it is best to destroy the treads of the boss in Segment 3.

About 85% of the time, he stays on the other side and I cannon get on top of it. Standing as far back from the hatch does seem to keep the Servebots coming out. Of course, I could have gotten lucky. I shall try it a few more times.

I can destroy at least one or two tanks resulting in more money for when upgrading occurs. This could help.

Going down on the Special Weapons menu is SO much faster. Not sure why I didn't do it in the first place.

When testing, I didn't try out using the Powered Buster on the tanks (Segment 4) mainly because I forgot to equip it. But the Mine only takes 2 to destroy them, which is faster than the cheap buster.

In Segment 5, you cannot call Roll and tell her to go Uptown. This is because you must first visit the area before she can visit the area with the Spotters Car.

I tried killing the boss at the lake faster but I messed up. I know I can do it faster though.

No recording has started yet though. On Friday, I will attempt the rest of the game trying the various things I mentioned. If any thing new comes up, I will post it.

Join this Forum and revive this topic. Just ask directly your self.. It died alwhile ago. I'd do it my self but I was already yelled out once by the Mod for triple posting.

This is the thread
Today I messed with the idea of Single Segment. It was going okay. The battle in downtown after the tanks was horrible because I was trying something new. Defending city hall was not so great but better than before.

When I reached the battle at the lake I was 2-3 minutes ahead of my current run so I know I can make it much lower.

The battle with Bruno was a little slow. I hate the auto-aiming in this game.  >:(.

I got as far as collecting the key (can't remember which one) in downtown in the Sub-Gate before I died. Everything just started draining from me. I shall try some more later tonight.
Another attempt at Single Segment.

I had a time of 1:01 or 1:02 at the start of MegaMan Juno.

Overall this was pretty good. A couple of bad battles. Horrible battle at the lake. Bruno took longer than I wanted. I messed up getting the key in Downtown. That took a bit of time. And I died at Juno.

This time could be shaved at least 3-5 minutes I believe so sub 1 hour is definately possible.

After continuously failing to produce good results against two bosses (the lake and its ruins) in the game I did some research. After looking around I found that the Machine Buster does great against both of these bosses.

Its found in the trash can in downtown so I collect it on my way to Uptown after buying the Laser Buster Part. I upgraded the Attack power of the weapon because it only costs 3400 Zenny and when I am upgrading the Active Buster in a later segment I usually have anywhere from 5000 to 6000 Zenny left so it works out.

Now I tested the weapon against both bosses. I can complete the boss of the lake (cant remember name/do not feel like looking it up) in two turns (Im thinking) if I am constant with the attacks hitting, which is quite difficult to do. The first is to destroy both arms and cannons.

The second is to destroy the final cannon. Of course I am not positive it can be done in two turns but I am going to keep trying. In the ruins it is a different story. I tried using the Machine Buster against the boss but I do not think it still helps. I hold the R2 button to get a good shot of his head and because of its rapid fire, it does pretty good. But this only last for a short time (real short). This is because the Lock On feature of the game is the same button as for looking around. I quote from the instruction manual "L2 Button - This button is not used." ARG! Why can't that be the look around button
that R2 has when it is not engaged in lock on?

Sorry. I really dislike the controls of this game sometimes.

Anyway, everything is looking good so far from my practice. Im still looking for a better way to Defend City Hall though.

EDIT: I am an idiot. I just realized that in the options I can turn off the Lock On feature. I just tried "Defend City Hall" and the Lake Ruins boss and completly destroyed them both (sort of). I need to practice my aim in "Defend City Hall" and a little more practice against that boss and I think everything will be smooth sailing from here on.

Just so you don't feel like you're talking to yourself, I'm interested in a better run on this. Good luck!

I was beginning to wonder if anyone was out there. Thanks!

I know the names of the Bonne family. I have trouble remembering the name of the machines they use throughout the game.
Wait, is Bon Bonne that weird head thing?
