Other than the horrendous voice acting.

NOW THE WHOLE WORLD IS MINE!  GOTCHA!

I'VE GOT IT DOCTOR.

SEE YOU IN MY DREAMS.

I'LL CRUSH YOU.  I'LL MAKE A POPSICLE OUT OF YOU.

I remember the voices being really annoying from time to time, but I also caught me laughing at them  Wink .

The thing that makes this game good is that the levels vary... I really enjoyed the shoot 'em up part... and YES, the jump-slide parts, too ^^
Comments have been sent now. More waiting.  Cry
Well, I am getting bored again so I figured I would jump back into running this "gem." Let us hope everything goes right this time.

It's not even up and you're improving! Smiley

That is true. I am going to get a head start and see what I can find. Mostly using the Mega Ball bounce some more and using more weapons during the levels.

But, I guess I can wait..... Sad

My feelings on The Demon Rush
I am one of the verifiers and to be honest you said it best, there are both good parts and bad parts about the run.  I'm not 100% sure which way to go on this run, so improving it is a very good idea.  The mega ball bouncing looks nice when you succeed (especially in Tengu Man's stage, that was pretty incredible), but it looks really sloppy when you botch (like at the ladder in Grenade Man's stage)

Personally I thought the run was pretty solid until the Wily stages, which is when you started getting sloppier and accepted more mistakes.

Random comments:

In general you don't slide enough.  The sliding mechanic is very forgiving in this game and allows you to slide on small, tight spaces easily.  Slide EVERYWHERE.  If an enemy takes too long to kill, then take some damage and slide past it.

When it comes to jumping and sliding, minimize your jumps.  Sliding is almost always faster, possibly even when it comes to climbing up some platforms (you have to move horizontally anyways).

When it comes to destroying enemies with your buster, don't shoot them from so far away while running at them.  Slide up near them, then start shooting them.  You will be able to get more shots on them within a shorter period of time because of how shot count works.

If taking damage works like some of the other Mega Man games, then turn around if you know you're going to be hit.  You usually get knocked in the direction of your back in Mega Man games.

I think you made a big mistake with planning.  There is a lot of sliding in this game and I think the hyper slider (or whatever the name of the item that makes you slide faster is called) is a good purchase.  Especially since you collected at least four bolts within the first four stages and you only need five or six to buy the item.

There is one bolt you can collect without losing any time in Frost Man's stage while you're snowboarding (take the bottom path), and there is another you can collect in Clown Man's stage that only costs a second or two (it's to the right of a pit in the beginning).  Even if the slide item only saves 5 frames per slide you will slide over 100 times after you get it (and if you aren't then you would be sliding even less than your current run :()

Like I said before, the Tengu Man stage was very well done.  I couldn't spot any mistakes.

Nate said using the mega ball would be a faster method of destroying the Clown Man mid-boss.

Too bad about your Duo luck.

That was a good strategy against Sword Man the first time around.

If you didn't mess up the mega ball bounce in Search Man's stage could you have taken damage from the spiked ball and been able to pass through?

Was falling down in Search Man's stage on purpose?

Are you sure the best weapon against the Aqua Man mid-boss is the grenade?  It didn't seem much faster than the buster.

I liked your strategy against Wily boss 1.

I think another place you could add mega ball bouncing is the spike area where your travel across bombs in Wily Stage 3.

You shouldn't have taken time to collect that life capsule in Wily Stage 3, you wouldn't have died without it.

Nice ball bouncing in Wily Stage 3.

Did you somehow get the Wily weapons mixed up in your head?  I'm pretty sure you're supposed to use water balloon against his first form, and flame sword against his second form.

I think your run is a good start, but there is definite room for improvement.  Even if you only apply minor optimizations I think the time can be lowered by a minute.

Thanks for that. As far as Grenade Man I just did it at the wrong time.

Those aren't my favorite stages but that isn't an excuse as to why I did that.

I didn't think the sliding was like that but now that I think about it, it is kind of like Mega Man 3. I will keep that in mind.

Huh, never thought of that. Angry

I will try that and get back to you.

The only reason was I never thought the sliding was good until it was brought to my attention. I have a save right after Duo, I will be sure to check the differences tonight.

I know which ones you are talking about.

I do. I hesitate like twice but I don't think it makes a big deal in the end.

I tried the Mega Ball and it didn't seem to be faster to me. I will check it out again though.

If I remember correctly, no.

I really am not sure. One time I beat the mid-boss fairly quickly with the Grenades but I cannot seem to reproduce it.

Thanks for all of the comments. I really appreciate it. As soon as I get home (hour and a half) I am going to start taking another crack at it.

Hey no problem, I feel good runners always have a need to improve their work because they're never truly satisfied.  Hopefully my comments will help you improve your run.  If I find anything else I'll post about it.

Well, there is going to be some waiting. Sickness has hit me and has rendered me tired. Not sure when it will leave but as soon as it does, I am starting. Also, after all of these comments (good and productive comments, don't confuse them) I want to improve the run more. This next one will TOTALLY BLOW YOU AWAY (not that you saw the first one, but still).

But as a teaser, I took the "current" run's Tengu Man stage and uploaded it to YouTube. Right now, it is being processed so I will be back later with a link.

EDIT: That was quick. Here you go!

Load time is pretty bad though so be patient.

Wow, that's really great, Ifrit. Your talent with the Mega Ball Bounce is so much better than mine, I'm glad I cancelled this run and you took it, instead.
I'm really impressed. I can't wait to see the rest!

What the hell did you do with Mega Ball Bounce?  :-/ Never knew you could do that. Your performance at that stage looked very smooth GO Ifrit!

Yeah, I saw the Tengu Man demo, very impressive.

Edit: But Please, PLEASE put it on FileFront.
I tried out the Hyper Slider today and it going to take a little practice getting used to it but I am in. It really makes the Astro Man stage a lot easier for me.

I am practicing the Wily Stages right now. These were the bummer from my first attempt and they are looking top notch right now. Still a little bit to do though.

I am off from school tomorrow but final exams start Wednesday so I have no idea how I will work Mega Man 8 into (cause you know thats more important).

So, I am practicing in segments right now. Wily first, cause they were the worst. (Whoa!) Then I will go back and do the first third of the game (Intro to Frost), then the second third (Duo to Aqua). Depend on how I progress will be when I do it.

In other words.....I will keep you up to date like I always do.

(By the way, why the rush? Are you that excited about Mega Man 8?  ;D)

Well, that, and the fact that I'm making a Megaman music video. I'm using footage from most of teh games that really impress me (like your Tengu Man megaball jumping)and mixing it to some Apocalyptica.

Oh, cool then. Im glad you enjoy. I will see if I can get a good quality video for you then.

Of course, the new Tengu Man stage will not feature hesitating.

EDIT: I will put the YouTube version on FileFront when the site is up. If you want better quality, then let me know.

Thanks, I appreciate it.
I played through all of the Wily Stages about 10 times today. Very rigorous training indeed. The only problem I have is with Wily Stage 3 where I mess up on one MBB (Oh yeah, its abbreviated now). Besides that, easy.

Next up is Duo through Aqua Man inclusive. Problem areas here will be Search Man because of the Weapons selections. Also the Aqua Man stage. Not sure when I will get to work on them though.

Hey, just go with what feels right. If your Aqua Man or any level for that manner looks like 10+ seconds could be saved, go for it! Grin

Here it is. Sorry it took so long. Exams, Mega Man X Collection, FileFront not working. Anyway, I got the file uploaded for you.

http://files.filefront.com/tengumanavi/;5019130;;/fileinfo.html

As far as attempts go, I am still messing around with the Wily Stages. I am mostly practicing against that first stage boss to make sure I have the positions correct for ultimate defeat.

Quick update on some progress here.

I almost have Duo-Aqua down.

Search Man's stage features a lot of weapon switching on the fly so I am going to practice that a bit more to make sure I don't get confused during the recording.

Astro Man features one little problem and it comes from going to fast (:o). To remedy that, I just need to make sure I hit the MBB at the correct moment.

Aqua Man's stage is not that big of a problem anymore. The only thing I can think of is starting the MBB at the correct time. Again, more practice.

I need to fix my strategy when going through Wily Stage 2 before I get to the forced scrolling with Rush.

I have my last two exams tomorrow. After that, heavy Intro-Frost practice and then possible recordings by the end of the week at the latest.
I'm the keeper of Time.
Good luck on your exams Grin and with your run.
