I have to say when you know how to do the Metal man glitch it is a simple glitch. Specially compared with other timing and finger combo things that is pulled off in glass and Uretas runs. just figure out how to do.

I realize I havent played the game in a long time. But Im sure you dont know about a detail or something. With just my memory I can try to explain but Im not sure this is how.

- use Item 1 right under that wall. IRC, half item 1 under the ceiling and half of it under the air.

- stand on the right side of item 1 and turn Mega mans body to face left. ( maybe the opposite )

-  when you are into the wall, not to late not to early push left and then release.

- Walla! you made it.

In case you we're referring to my post, that's not really what I was talking about. I was specifically talking about the Heat Man zip.

Bisqwit explained it well, so I'll quote him on this:

|how to zip with item 3, particularly in the heatman stage?

First you descend from the ladder as low as possible, and put an Item3 facing left. Then you climb up such that you can step on the Item3, and grab the ladder again so that the Item3 starts inching down.

When the Item3 is low enough, you fall onto it, and walk to its rightmost edge, as far as you can go without falling. Face right, and wait for the Item3 to push Megaman to the ceiling.

When Megaman is in the ceiling such tightly that trying to jump will not make him fall down through the ceiling, you will perform the following sequence in order to make Megaman face to the left without walking:
[ch8213] Hit A for 1 frame
[ch8213] Hit nothing for two frames
[ch8213] Hit Left for 1 frame
[ch8213] Wait, and zipping should start automatically.

Since you can't use Items to ease the turn, you have to do it more or less manually following this guideline.

EDIT: OK, I may have misspoken. The Heat Man glitch is very doable. Few conditions make it hard, but I can see someone pulling it off at around 80% accuracy when given tremendous amount of practice, maybe even better success rating is possible, who knows.

Here's what makes it so damn hard for me:
-You have to do the sequence before you hit the very end of the ceiling, but not before you're in enough to do the glitch.
-The glitch does not work if you do not release A before pressing left. You have to do this in quick succession, too, so it's rather tricky to time right. (Also, you have to face right initially.)
-Doing all this from the ladders is even harder, but practicing it from the ground up is a good way to start.

But as you can see, I have it all figured out now.
I don't even know what the fuck this is
Thank you cremator, I practiced for twenty minutes to no avail. Then I used the handy dandy slowdown tool. Two minutes later, I was doing it 9/10 times at 100% speed. it's all about timing, man.
My feelings on The Demon Rush
Since it looks like the zipping glitches don't save a whole lot of time, I'm not going to make a separate category for them.
I don't even know what the fuck this is
Ok, I can do the quick man shit too. Simple once you get used to it. Getting into the boss door requires frame perfect timing, so here's how I do it; it's dark, so it'll look like megaman stays still for a little bit while you're zipping. as soon as he starts moving right, start wiggling left and right. it'll increase your chances.

I misunderstood there. Sorry.

The wallzips probably saves something like 30 seconds up to maybe over  a minute.

So you have a chance to do the other zips. sounds like russian roulette. The game and run already include a lots of tight tricks =)
I don't even know what the fuck this is
I'm very, very consistent at the glitches now. The only thing that's hard for me anymore is getting into the second wall in Quick Man's level. It's dark. Sad

I have been planning and working on a <30 min run for some time now. The zipping glitches in the metal man, heatman, qucikman, and bubbleman stages are all easily doable on a console if you practice them.

Also doable are some of the vertical warping tricks, particularly those in wily 1.

What is not doable (consistently) on a console is zipping to scroll the screen. Doing so requires you to press right on the exact frame you contact the end of the screen. You zip so fast this is impossible.

the second zip in quick man stage requires that, just wiggle a bit and you can do it. I need to watch the TAS again to figure out if I can do any more glitches.
Anyone still working on this one? Seth's given me a run for my money - doing his order and by his rules - but attempting to do it better.

I can regularly achieve 31:XX and I've had a few 30:XX, but a combination of little mistakes add up after a half hour.

29:XX is definitely possible, though. Spending my summer on it. Wink

I'm not sure what Seth's rules are, but I think that maybe it'd be so awesome if someone just ran the game the fastest way possible.
I don't even know what the fuck this is
you ARE using glitches, right? 29:xx isn't really too feasible without em. I worked on this for a bit but moved to mm6 and mmx for a bit so I'll come back to it sometime.
Hello everyone! I'm glad you all enjoyed my run, and my wacko boss order Wink

As I've been at work for months on my Mega Man 2 run (remember the current run was just a test), I'm wondering what we are considering "legal" moves for a legitimate speed run of the game? It would be nice to know so I can adjust my run accordingly...

My belief is also that, without glitches Mega Man 2 can be, in theory, beaten in under 30 minutes.
I don't think there are any banned glitches on MM2 anymore (as long as you don't cheat), and the conclusion was that the zipping doesn't make a separate category. Go for it!
I don't even know what the fuck this is
oh shit oh shit oh shit he's back I better jump on this

Im sure MM2 can be beaten under 30 without glitches too. Dont know if someone will ever do that though. a "zipp-run" can be a lot entertaining I think. For my sake. My planning mm2 run is one of the runs I mostly want to do. But Im not sure I will ever get it done  Tongue
Don't doubt yourself, just takes practice  Wink
Look at me, I've been at it for 15 years... anyways I am indeed going to be doing a glitched run. I can execute many of the glitches no problem, but the first one in quick mans level (that leaves you in the dark) will probably be left out. I just have never practiced that one enough to include it in a run any time soon, and if I did it would lower my average sucess rate by a considerable amount... but who knows? Maybe in the future.  Smiley
My goal is 29:00.
Hi! I'm andrewg!
Practice, practice, practice!

I'm sure you could find a way to play where you only have a black backround.

Good luck to you guys on your future attempts.

I love mm2 and I'm eager to see an improvement. (or doing an improvement) Wink

Yea, the time you need for practicing and most of all, and get the good run. Im sure I can pull of a run under 29:30.. If I spend enough time And in theory a glitch run under 29 is possible. Im not sure no one is able to do that but good luck if you want to try. Im sure its possible, so it would be sweet if you succeed!
Cowabunga? Cowa-piece-of-fucking-dog-shit!
hey guys!

i'm new to SDA forums, but not new to MM2. i've been doing runs on console for some time now. i've been optimizing my 8 bosses before i move onto Wily practice.

i'm OFFICIALLY going for the zip/glitch run. everyone else talks about it, well i'm going for it. i'm hoping i can shave off around 30 seconds of the current time.

if anyone has questions about doing any of the glitches (metal man, quick man, bubble man, and even crash man) i would love to explain them. i have a VERY high success rate on the glitches and i'm hoping i can get good enough to post a test run sometime soon!

anyone have any tips?
bläää
Yes. If you havent seen "Bablos" glitched emulator run, then you have to see it.

i can't torrent on my college's connection. does anyone have a different link to it? or another way to watch it?
This is Caleb the Killer. Don't piss him off.
Please don't label me as a noob for this, but I have never sat down and actually played a single Mega Man game before in my life, and I'm twenty! Am I missing out on anything? It's just that I spent most of my time playing Mario, Sonic and Zelda, so much that I know an ass load of useless stuff about older Zelda games, mostly Link to the Past, but anyway, should I give MM a try?
Hi! I'm andrewg!
Definately. I'm a big fan of all the other series as well and megaman is fun and challanging. Also the soundtrack owns.
