I don't feel like digging up my ancient topic, so here's the new one. About the old one though, no one really took too much notice to it, and I imagine this thread will share the same fate, but for some reason it feels good to give out progress reports for the sake of it.

Right now, I'm on the third level in the game, first two are recorded. I'll get videos up when I can. Got a capture card, just need to sort it out. But anyways, I'm on the mission Tank Rush at the moment, trying to find the fastest way to tackle it. For those of you who don't know what the hell is going on here, I'll fill you in on the general premise of this mission:
- Enter a space port way into the level
- You're in a crummy tank
- You have to protect your dumbass captains from certain death

I found I could go through about 3/4 of the level, and the NPC wouldn't take a single hit thanks to a strategy of mine (shooting everywhere so the enemies are attracted to me). But when I actually got to the space port, that's when it all went to shit. I actually got to the final switch in tact, but the terminal didn't work. I'm trying to find out what exactly has to be done in order for that thing to work. If I do that, I could just rush past all the enemies, press the switch, run in. We shall see what happens.

Now there's 21 missions in this game (or 22, I can never remember), and I'll be doing this run in about 19 segments or so. This is because the things you do on some levels carry over into others. For example, if you finish a certain level in a certain mech, that mech carries over into the next mission. This was how I was able to finish off the first boss battle in the game in about 1:20, when my old time was 6:55. Nice, eh? ^_^

That's all really. I'll keep giving myself progress reports from time to time, and hopefully I'll get vids up later.

A poster! Cry

Thanks for the luck. I'll need if I want to break away from Halo finally and get to work on this. But that's impossible, as I ran through the whole game today in 1:24:04 <_<;

Anywho, I finally got a good strategy for this level, now I just need to find time to perform it well. I'm expecting a time around the 3:1X area. Original time was around the sub 5 area.

The next mission is going to be fairly simple. It'll be a new segment. Since I won't be finishing this level in the tank (it's faster to run to the end than getting back in the tank), I'll be greeted with a pretty fast mech. The first objectives of the next mission, are taking out four factories and two switches to obstruct the flow of enemy units. From there, I can hop back into the powerful mech to take down the two strong ones that fly into the space port. I should land around 1:3X or so if everything goes according to plan =D

EDIT: I should dig up all my old times and show how my new times compare. Now that I'm actually a qualified speedrunner, I'm a lot better, so some improvements are going to be crazy.
Weren't you recording MA2 runs before you got into Halo in 77? Because you were cutting like... a minute off every level each post. That must have been a lot of practice runs.

Yeah, I was. I actually finished that MA2 run, just never sent it out. I watched it over recently, and I didn't like it very much. I saw a lot of obvious speed-ups, and I'm also gonna make each mission a little bit stylish if I can manage it.

Ok, I found a sheet of all my old times:

Street Sweeper - 1:18
Signs of Life - 1:16
Tank Rush - 4:07
Let's Get Off This Rock - 3:00
To the Rescue - 4:44
'Mech Shopping (favorite mission) - 4:34
Go Time on Thestria - 4:54
Swamp Rock - 5:52
Eight feet under - 1:33
Into the valley of Death - 2:38
There's Gonna be a Jail Break - 5:57
I hate Snakes - 4:46
Mountain Song - 3:33
Sending Out an SOS to the World - 7:34
Once more into the breach - 5:44
To the Arena - 3:42
Holding the line - 12:50
Gladitor has nothing on us - 5:52
Against the Spiders - 6:58
Skin the Cat - 2:23
End Game - 1:42
Checkmate - 2:35

Here are the new times thus far:

Street Sweeper - 00:56 > 1:18
Signs of Life - 1:01 > 1:16
Tank Rush - 3:47 > 4:07

I'm still experimenting with Signs of Life, and Tank Rush can still go much lower. Street Sweeper can go sub 50 if I really push and if I can get my new shortcut to work. Also, at the end of the level, you have to take out two tanks before the ending speech happens. I've seen them together at very random times, and I'm hoping to catch 'em together one attempt, so I can take 'em both out with one mortor. But anyways, gonna finish off Tank Rush, then I'll look into the first two levels.
