one-armed bandit
I decided to start a new topic because the previous one is pretty much about New York Minute, and I will be updating this first post during the progress of this run.

We have had a change in plans. Acapulco wanted to do this run with me so this will be a team run, after all.  We'll do this run the same way as before, segmented Dead on Arrival difficulty (hardest) and one segment per level (24 total).

This run will be whole different than the NYM runs because killing is useless now. The major route changes:

p1c6: jumping over the telephone
p1c7: skip half of the map, jump over an invisible wall
p2c6: skip 75% of the map, mostly running on top of the map and dropping down to the elevator in the end.
p3c8: use the bookshelf shortcut before fighting Vlad.

Videos:

1-P Hospital
1-1 Vlad's Warehouse

1-2 Vlad's Restaurant
1-3 Max's 1st Nightmare
1-4 Max's Apartment Building
1-5 Max's Apartment Building cont'd
1-6 Mona's Funhouse
1-7 Upper East Side Apartment Building
2-P Police Station
2-1 Return to Mona's Funhouse
2-2 Condemned Building
2-3 Condemned Bulding cont'd
2-4 Construction Site as Mona part1
2-5 Construction Site as Mona part2
2-6 Construction Site as Mona part3
3-P Max's 2nd Nightmare
3-1 Hospital cont'd
3-2 Return to Vlad's Restaurant
3-3 Slum Neighborhood
3-4 Vinnie's Used Car Lot
3-5 Return to Funhouse, as Mona
3-6 Max's 3rd Nightmare
3-7 Woden's Manor
3-8 Woden's Manor cont'd

Any ideas, tips or suggestions are more than welcome!

One thing on my mind here...The "right" thing to do with the timing would be a program or something that works inside games so you know what time you get..
And also how about the loading times between cutscenes and before the actual level begins..
Since the times of the levels are so "overtimed"...Doesn't seem right to have time on loadings (since the loadings are lower or higher based on computer performance) and call the prolouge on Part 1 a 2minute 4second level...The loadings take up more than 1½minute of the video...

So all I'm saying is...there need to be a way to get timing on the game without loadings...I'll go see on the web if there is such kind of program or figure out how this can be solved Wink

Anyhow good luck on the new "running technice" on MP2...man there's a lot for MP2...NYM, DMW, One-segment-through-parts, one-segment-level Grin
Speed is the key.
Loading screens for PC games are never included in the timing.

Good run so far, sarou.
Discontinued Speedrunner
Yeah I understand that...but...to Sarou, what is your time on the prologue level so far??

and also...I have shortcuts you don't have yet Grin Grin Grin
=/
Don't be greedy. ;P Are you using all the normal double and super jump shortcuts, sarou?
Discontinued Speedrunner
I think he will...but not the ones that only helps in NYM..
And this feature have alternative shortcuts which doesn't have ant advantage in NYM mode since it skips the possibility to kill more badguys Wink Grin

just like acapulco said. NYM is mostly killing enemies as fast as possible and running to the finish. this is gonna be whole different Wink

acapulco, i have no idea about my times, but I'll play the levels until I'm satisfied with the result. And I've played this game so much that I know when it's good :P, though I'm not satisfied with the prologue run... maybe I should redo it.

The prolouge is really dull when it comes to trying getting through the rooms as fast as possible....

Like in the room where you run into the army guy, I tried and shootdodge my way past him so that when I shot him I would start a bit in the next room when the cutscene ends...But it turned out to be a waste of time (tried it like 20 times, and a bunch of other stuff, like walking past him but he's stuck :()

Also...Have you got a shortcut on P1C5??
one-armed bandit
well, just the little shortcut in the end... its on SDA.
Discontinued Speedrunner
Ok...I got a better shortcut....well it's before the little bullet-dodge jump in the end...

I'll record a movie of it soon maybe....

p1c1 done.

I've posted the video times in the first post, so you'll have some idea what time I'm gonna get.
one-armed bandit
I cancelled this project because of lack of interest on my behalf. I'll do NYM runs only if any.
=/
=\ I'm sure acapulco will pick it up, though. Maybe.
Discontinued Speedrunner
a bit of a pitty this was cancelled....I got a joker up my sleeve for the P1C5 :-[

some levels should maybe have been really cool, watching...there are crazzzy shortcuts that  I got but if there aren't any interest I'm not going to pursue this either....
But if someone wants, I can make specific levels if you got any request Wink
one-armed bandit
I decided to continue this, I redid part 1 and 2 already and I'm playing on the hardest difficulty. so check the first post for videos.

and acapulco I want to learn your trick in p1c5 :P.
MGS for PS1 forever.
Not to crash the party...but wouldn't doing runs of the 2nd hardest difficulty be pointless? Since there are already NYM runs...why not just go ahead and do runs on the easiest setting. If you look at other games you will probably see that many have a easy and hard speedrun...but no inbetweens.
Speed is the key.
NYM is the same as easy, just with a timer, right?

Run like hell!
Is there a different, bonus ending on this difficulty, like in the first game?
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Yeah

There's an alternate ending.

hey, this is brought op again Cheesy

I think Im going to do theese sort of speedruns now...
I'll try and break your times first before I do p1c5 since it's a joker run (not before seen extra special extravaganza ;))

I have an idea though... We will not make it only one list of the runs, we do them individually and see who gets the best times at each run...then we can cut together our runs making it a Max Payne 2 Done Quick...that way we get out the best of the game... Cheesy

What you think??

Also : is there an alternate ending on max payne 1 as well as MP2?? I just finished Max Payne 1 for my first time two days ago :D:D and that was on the easiest, havent tried any harder yet :D....but thanks to intence playing on MP2 i finished MP1 after maybe 6-8 hours playing !! Cheesy

sounds great to me!

but if you beat my times, remember to save the raw file of the recording and copy the save file to a another folder.

I'm in a bit of a hurry so I'll talk to you later today.
MGS for PS1 forever.
As far as I know there isn't a 2nd ending to MP1.
Run like hell!
That's not a second ending exactly, but there is a bonus level. Smiley

Ok, I read your post more carefully and straighten some things up.

1. the segments we make (one per level), have to be in sync. so we must have the same amount of health, weapons and ammo. so if you finish with p1c1 with only pistol and 5 bullets the next level has to start with only a pistol and 5 bullets. there are of course some levels which have a set amount of weapons, bullets in the beginning so we can do those levels individually. prologue1, p1c3,  prologue3, p3c5, p3c6 and p3c8 <- I think there is every level you can do individually.

2. once you complete a level you have to post the save file here, so I can continue where you left off. I think we are gonna start from the beginning, so the first save file you have post is the beginning of 1-2. (the autosave file after you complete 1-1). and always post the autosave files, don't use any other saving method.

3. when you got a run of a level recorded, always keep the raw file of the recording so we can get the files compressed right so we can get this run posted on SDA someday.

4. Do you use IRC? it would be a lot better to discuss this run there. if you do, join #qdq on QuakeNET. it is the only chatting program I have, and it is highly unlikely I'd install something else :D.

5. good luck with your efforts, let's make this as perfect as possible!
