Back when Jozsef was making JoeQuake, I did a lot of beta testing.
For anyone interested in a modern Quake engine that ...
- Has near 100% JoeQuake feature set (QMB particles, capturedemo, external textures)
- Plays .dz demos without even needing dzip.exe
- Runs on Windows or a Mac.
- Has Open GL or WinQuake version.
- Plays ALL modern maps (.bsp, Arcane Dimensions, etc.), all old maps.
- International keyboard support
Unlike JoeQuake, has a couple of minor fixes that would probably be considered illegal for a speedrun of classic maps.
The engine also can install single player releases in the console from Quaddicted. Type "install rapture" or "install czg03", for instance. Press TAB auto-completes names of known downloads. Press ALT+Space for full list.
Anyway, I did my best to try to incorporate as close to 100% of Jozsef's fine work into the engine, even though this engine is completely not based on JoeQuake and is from the FitzQuake family of engines (more similar to say, Quakespasm).
To flip on QMB effects, go to preferences and change to "JoeQuake QMB". External textures use the DarkPlaces external texture naming convention.
