Probably gonna be in about 1.5 hrs - still at work for now.
I'm down for a race
Wombat said he would race also, so we can have a party. =)
New game any% is where all the cool people run.

Now we just need to poke the rest of those lazy people like Semmlbroesel and Raelcun, so that we can break the SRL record for participants in a MotN race.  XP
Well I know Semmlbroesel is going to start running in a couple days, he has bee busy with exams.

I've been really excited and happy about everybody working on the same category for once.  It's a much more competitive and yet cooperative experience - sharing tricks, fighting over WRs....

I have been playing the game for over a year, so I should be ahead of everyone else. Since everyone is running this category you can watch my video and see where the time comes from. Watching my NG+ Any% was meaningless as none of you had any idea how you faired.

Honestly I think it's simply execution confidence. Since I have been playing the game much longer I have the entirety of the controls etched into my mind, so I can confidently move quickly without thinking about it. Given over a year of Any% experience you will be in a similar situation. I ran almost nothing but NG+ Any%, so wall kicking and general Any% stuff is my thing. =p

Quite true, quite true.  I'm coming up on six months myself, but I don't practice nearly enough.  XD

Also, I realized that my game was lagging 5-10fps, which accounts for an almost 10% increase in time (three minutes over a 30min run...)  I think I fixed the problem, so hopefully my times get faster.
I find it funny that I have only been running this game for about three weeks.
Here you go, I finally managed to encode it:

As you can see, it is still very sloppy and there is plenty to improve. Also I had no buying strategy for this run so I was just messing around on the buy screens to figure out what I could do, this is what I use now:

Level 4: Lock picking + armor 1
Level 6: Slide
Level 8: Bugs + armor 2

I also bought the quiet running because I have that in NG+ and I didn't know if the run would be messed up without it, but I think you can safely ignore it. Armor 2 may be removable, but I don't think armor 1 can be due to places you are likely to get shot in the fastest routes. That may need testing.

Also for fun, the weird bug I had with the smoke bomb happens at ~14:00 when I try to smoke the lasers:

I throw the smoke bomb in the air (you can see the animation change from an air roll to just falling), but it doesn't come out. So I sit there confused for a second and throw a second one, spawning the first one I threw in the air. Mark of the Ninja never fails to amaze when it comes to adding to it's 'Weird and Wonderful Glitches' list.

Managed a new PB, this one at 38:26.  This COULD have been at least 35:xx, but NO, wallkicks have to be jerks.  Lost a minute to them in levels 5, 6, and 8, and then lost TWO MINUTES on the vent kick in level 12.  #fuckwallkicks.

Also, I found a trick in level 7 (catacombs) that saves roughly 10 seconds.  If you hold left immediately after you reach the end of the roflwalk above the stage while you're falling, you can grab the wall as it drops down above the area where the level ends.  This will immediately end the level, instead of waiting for you to hit the ground and walk left a bit.  I'll see if I can get a video of this effect later on this evening...

If you're willing to give up 1-2 seconds to avoid the vent:

Well, thanks!  I probably will use those strats for now, but I'm still stuck with the vent kick on lvl 5.  I used to get it consistently and early, but something about vent wallkicks has been giving me problems since I switched over to controller%.

I gave a try at the method Austin was describing for vents, and he is right, it is 100% consistent, I will get a video and explain the inputs. So you can ignore those videos above, the vent is definitely faster now. =) It won't work on all vents as Austin said, only those that you can't run up the walls, since you abuse this to use sprint correctly.

EDIT

Here it is:

Inputs are:
- Enter the vent (This is actually a requirement, you need to be stood exactly where you are after entering the vent)
- Sprint right until pressed against wall.
- Sprint left until pressed against wall.
- Wallkick.

You can hold sprint the entire time.
Shout-outs to Semmelbroesel for this one.
I was investigating something that he mentioned to me in my chat once, and found this weird backwards slide that happens.
What you have to do is first jump in the air and focus. While focused you toggle a Mark of Serenity. Exactly one frame after that you focus again and untoggle the Mark of Serenity and that produces this:

Half way to victory on the #FuckWallKicksCampaign!

I have found a consistent wall kick method!

...that works only on walls going to the right (?). So now we only have to find one that works on walls going to the left for the complete consistent wall kick set. Thankfully, I think there are way more right wall kicks than left wall kicks, so I guess you could say we are more than half way there. Enjoy:

It requires a spike mine (or any item you can pick up again). This means for NG+ Any% you will need to neglect bugs for as many levels as possible. I believe I only use them in level 5 and 10. Also level 11 has no spike mine. Still some progress to be made on wallkick consistency, but it's a start.

Similar setup for left walls:

It is rather slow to setup, but should be equivalent in speed to the expected 2-3 stutter-step average. Of course first time wallkicks still prevail.

Next goal: Remove the need for a spike mine.

Very short lived goal. But I can safely say: Wallkicks Defeated, For Good.

I now have a consistent wallkick method that works regardless of chosen items, even in level 11 where you get no choice of items. Behold:

FUCK YOU WALLKICKS, AND HAVE A NICE DAY

This will only work for NG once you get to level 6 and get your farsight, but until then you can resort to spike mine strats. The only downside of it is that it is hard to setup after attempting a first time wallkick, so it may be more beneficial to not even try first time wallkicks, or at least practice it a lot.

Next goal: Faster method? Consistent first time wallkicks (impossible really, a consistent setup can't be timing based)?

I've decided to record an IL pack of NG Any% and post it here almost as an encyclopedia of all the knowledge I have gained from over a year of playing this game. You should be able to record your own ILs and run them side by side to see where you can improve (or where I can improve!). You can synchronise the videos at any point, so if you (or I) don't get a first time wall kick, just continue from when we both get through the wall. It should help in getting us all up to pace for races in a much quicker time.

The pack will come as soon as I can be arsed, which is whenever.

This is actually extremely useful, especially in long corridors like that - way faster than slide cancelling.  Off the top of my head, there are at least three places in lvl 11 I can think of where that would help, and probably at least one or two in level 12 in a NG any% run.  This could actually drop the NG+ any% time by at least a minute.  Saving dem frames?  check.

I assume the Far Sight is so that you don't grab the wall?  On walls that you can't grab, can you just jump next to them?

Quote from KingdomNerdia:

It's two-fold. It's so you can't grab the wall, but also so that you can't press your face against the wall once you hit the ground. Pressing your face against the wall pushes you back, which messes up the spacing. You can use a cardboard box as well, but since farsight is always selected for you, it is faster. The idea came to me when I did the spike mine trick on the left wall. The punch strategy will work if you can get yourself maximum distance into the wall, so if you can find a way to do it on levels 1 through 4 on NG Any%, that would improve the experience of that run a lot.

Quote from KingdomNerdia:

In theory, yes. There is a problem with it in that it only travels for ~3 seconds before stopping and the setup takes about 1 second if done quickly, so you only net yourself about 1-2 seconds of super-speed. If you can fly off a building, you get yourself some more time too. To gain 1 minute you need to get ~30 of them in total, which is quite a hard task to achieve. However, it is a time saver and in a run like NG+ Any% any time saved is nice to push that 18:xx.

I'm going to be giving NG+ Any% another visit, so we can see how much it saves.

Ok.  I just figured that out testing it, also.

Also, here's the level 7 trick I promised:

This, of course, only saves ~2-5 seconds.  BUT HEY.  Those frames are in need of saving.

=Edit=  New PB 35:56.  I also forgot to save Wsplit again, so I don't have the splits...  Oh well.
I have the ILs highlighting on my Twitch channel for those whom want them. Most of them are far from perfect but should give a good idea of where to improve.

I'm trying to get hold of the first post so we can update it with runs, IL tables and other good stuff.

So I was sat in Mark of the Ninja, minding my own business, when I casually discovered something quite interesting:
I FOUND A 100% CONSISTENT WALLKICK METHOD REQUIRING NO ITEMS WHATSOEVER

I'll let that sink in for a moment for you NG Any% fanatics, then you can read the next big text:
IT IS FASTER THAN THE FARSIGHT METHOD (!)

Here it is:

Inputs are:
- Face away from the wall
- Jump straight up
- Air attack
- Hold towards wall (and don't let go)
- Wallkick

There is actually a way to do the backwards air kick while sprinting, but it can take a while to get used to. This has some pretty serious implications:
IT ALLOWS YOU TO DO A CONSISTENT FIRST TIME WALLKICK (!!!)

Albeit, it's slightly slower because you very briefly move backwards, but it's close enough and above all it is consistent. Not only this, it is very easy to set up the second wallkick if you mess up the backwards air kick while sprinting.

Here is sprinting backwards air kick method:

Inputs are:
- Sprint towards wall
- Jump
- Tap away from the wall
- Air kick
- Hold towards the wall
- Wallkick

The inputs need to be quite fast and you need to do it quite close to the wall, but if you can get good at it, the actual wallkick itself is consistent. There may be a better way to do it, but this is what I found while messing around for a few minutes. Again, if you screw this up, you can just walk away from the wall and do the regular backwards kick method, which is much much easier.

This also has some implications on routing. We can start adding wallkicks to save small amounts of time in any level, since it is fast and isn't dependent on any items. I'm sure there are plenty of these. One that comes to mind is skipping the push box in level 7. By running past it to the right hand wall and kicking through there, time can be saved by avoiding the box push.

And with that, a closing statement:
