"I need to get those damn frog coins!"
Hey, everyone! This is one of my first posts, but I've been lurking around SDA for a while now.  Anyway, I was thinking about attempting a run of MP1's Minigame Island, single segment.  I think that this would be a pretty entertaining run to make and to watch.  The only problem I can think of in the run is that a lot of minigames run on a preset timer, and a player's ability does not determine the time the game is completed in (Face Lift and Crazy Cutter immediately come to mind, there are many others).  Hopefully, there won't be too many of these games to make a speedrun pointless.

The run would probably be any%, I'd take 1 of the two paths (probably through the cave, the other minigames are longer if I remember) and finish after Toad's challenge.

What does everyone think about this idea for a run, and is there any interest? Any feedback or ideas are appreciated.

Existence as you know it is over
iirc, the minigame island doesn't complete the main story mode, but it could maybe be done if a story mode run is done.

Then again, mario party games are not exactly the best choices for a main game completion because you have little control in manipulating dice rolls and minigame choices.

Well, I can say with confidence that a main-game run will never be done; other than minigames, there's nothing at all that can be done quickly or even interestingly.  Even if someone found a trick that let us hit constant 10's or something like that, we'd still have something like 20-40 hours of footage to get 100 stars. 75% of it would be the AI doing their rolls.

So, I think that Minigame Island could be treated as it's own "story", as such.  It has a definite starting point and ending point and was clearly meant to be an activity outside of the board maps and not just a "minigame" within the rest of the story. We'll have to leave it up to Radix to determine wether this kind of run would be acceptable or not in the end, of course.

The only thing I could say against it is that a lot of the minigames last for a set amount of time. I posted a list on TASvideos of minigames that could be optimised and it was about 50/50. :/
Mr. Twishall
Took some interest in this, did some research. Games that can be completed significantly faster based on actions are:
1-1 Coin Block Blitz
1-2 Coin Block Bash
2-1 Memory Match
2-2 Ground Pound
2-4 Musical Mushroom
3-2 Buried Treasure
3-4 Tug o' War
4-1 Bobsled Run
4-3 Handcar Havoc
4-4 Ghost Guess
5-3 Bumper Balls
5-4 Treasure Divers
5-6 Deep Sea Divers
5-7 Mushroom Mix-Up
6-1 Box Mountain Mayhem
6-2 Pedal Power
6-3 Tipsy Tourney
6-5 Bombsketball
7-1 Slot Machine
8-3 Key-pa-Way
8-4 Balloon Burst
9-2 Slot Car Derby
9-4 Knock Block Tower
Slot Car Derby 2

A single-segment run of this would be very tough, mainly because of how much luck/randomness is involved throughout the mini-games you would have to play. Buried Treasure could just screw you over, Mushroom Mix-Up is just plain tough and you're just holding your breath on TightRope Treachery and Bombs Away (though those could be skipped if the route used Worlds 3 and 4), Hot Bob-omb is complete luck and Pipe Maze is pretty much complete luck (with you wanting a 25% chance to succeed as opposed to wanting it to fail with Hot Bob-omb). However...

None of these would have such potential to kill a run as Bowl Over, 7-4. The pin setup makes it impossible to hit all three character pins a good amount of the time, resulting in failure. Then Running of the Bulb is tough, especially if you lose all your teammates, and then Slot Car Derby is there in World 9 (twice, and the second race is what worries me) to offer a tough skill test, another very potent run-killer.

Bearing that all in mind, I would love to see a single-segment run of this game! Completing the 42/43 mini-games (depending on which path is chosen--3/4 or 5--42/43 also includes Slot Car Derby 2) all consecutively would be very impressive in my opinion. I would also enjoy watching a segmented run (segmented by world), and 100% runs could also be done by completing all 50 mini-games and then doing Slot Car Derby 2, SS or with segments, making for four run possibilities here (provided the admins approve). I may attempt some type of run in the near future, and I just wanted to give anyone else interested some info.
Maybe we could have Mario Party the same as Mario Kart in that there are individual clips for the fastest completion of each minigame...? Save having to do the time based ones...
