Hmm, I always figured Koopa and Paratroopa would be faster because they can get more defensive items (the 3 green shells.)  Getting hit by the red shells seemed to take up the most time in the videos I've seen. 

And you don't get that many mushrooms with Toad & Toadette anyways cause you're always in first place.  So I figured not getting hit by so many red shells would be an easy time improvement.

I like to use Bowser Jr. and Paratroopa because you can use both of their specials (giant shell & 3 green shells) in first place.

Just a question: What is the best kart to use? Is it the train becuase that's what I've seen most in these vids?
