Yep, highly possible, but pretty hard to do. You have to powerslide and mini-turbo at the exact moment, so right when the shell is about to hit you, the game's "Homing" flag turns off, and it goes straight off into a wall.

I remember dodging 3 consecutive blue shells in 150cc, man that was a feat!

Just sliding, not even a mini turbo. Yeah, the blue shell switches off it's auto-follow when it gets very close, and charges in a straight line. But you can't see it very well. The best you can do is just drive normall (which involves a lot of snaking already) and hope that it misses.

I love YaBB 1G - SP1!

my favorite combo in that game is to use baby bowser and paratroopa in baby luigis kart. i beat the whole game with those.

Speed is the key.

I just use Paratroopa and Toad in the barrel train. It´s pretty good at higher difficulties.

Thats the best combo in my opinion. When you're in 1st place set koopa at the back (the one that gets the items) he gets lots of shields, good for defence. Use toad when you're a bit behind, his shrooms could come in handy. Using z to switch between them.

I might give this a try. I'm sure there are many double dashers that can do better than me but I hope to motivate them to get a better act. Aiming for close to 29 minutes.

Actually I just talked to Meakings a few hours ago. He says he's got a 28'55. I'm currently downloading the movie (170mb, but it's hanging... grr... and he's out of the house). He says it's decent quality, so it might be worthy of SDA.
Unfortunately it's WMV. Gotta bug him to recapture it from his tape to divx AVI, I s'pose?

Well if he's going to submit this then I see no point in doing a run myselfe. 28:55 is quite impresive.

I watched Stephen's run. It was a 29'02 that time. WMV with no sound, argh!
He's currently trying to capture the 28'55 from his tape but isn't too knowledgable on it and still can't get sound. His racing is pretty good, so we'll definitely want to get his vid uploaded. The 29' was 50Hz, so I assume this 28'55 is also 50Hz.

Yeah but it could take weeks to get that done (especially with your queue and stuff), whereas if he could capture it himself it could take a few days. So we're looking into that option first.

I am running a pretty consistent time of 29.xx with my best being 29:23. The timing should not make any difference between the 50 hz and 60 hz as the timing is done in the game, if it had to be timed with a stopwatch the 60 hz might be faster like in most games. I hope to get into the 28's in the next week or two as I have been playing this game like 5 hours a day for the last month and a half. I have no vcr so I will cap myself but one question to nate, would it be better to cap with ati-tv wonder elite in 720*480 and convert to divx resolutions or would you like the actual 720*480 avi and you can do whatever conversions you want. Also I wish this game had progressive support I could try out my new hauppage and get one of the first hd quality vids up Smiley

It has sound and is in .avi format. Trouble is its over 9 gig Shocked

While I rarely (ok, never) actually post here, ideally encoding to h264 would give you the best video quality/filesize ratio.

I'm also interested in seeing this run. The time is very good. I'm really good at MKDD also, specializing in the GP races, not so much the best times on Time Trial, although I am not bad at that. Can't wait for the video of it.

I could definitely get good times when I get the game and start playing again. All the games in the Mario Kart series are awesome and would be good to speedrun. Maybe Super Mario Kart is in my repetoir for a run in the future, I'll have to see which games I absolutely want to run.

The players don't matter, it's only the kart that matters. Therefore, the barrel train kart with any two characters than get get it is fine. (preferably toad & toadette)

For ACT you might care about their powerups. Toad and Toadette gets mushrooms, which sounds good.

My sister and I could dual run this with the toads in the baby buggie pretty damn fast on 150CC. We are practicing now, and might record something and send it in if it is satisfactory.
