Oh man, I thought I told you your second shortcut a long time ago, but it was a different person who was trying it.

Heh, hope you didn't try too hard to find it  Tongue
I don't think he's working on it anymore.

Sez who? I just had... personal problems to resolve.

Good to see someone else is trying this speedrun. Gives an air of competition.

tri hex, you need to understand that playing on an emulator is not the same than on the real deal, especially since that real deal is actually a port with a reduced viewing window. It's kinda like what I was doing: for practice, I played on my GBA. That will NEVER replicate what it feels to have an actual factual controller in your hands, wheter it is a normal GC controller, a Wave Bird (What I use) or a Hori controller. Calm down, take a nice cup of tea (or whatever calms you down), and try again fresh. And may I suggest getting the biggest VHS tape possible (2hr 40min if possible)?

As for my run... We'll have to wait and see. I've been away from my GC for almost 2 weeks, and from YI even longer. But this is like riding a bike. You never forget how it's done.
Huh. I thought they made 6 hour and 8 hour long tapes.

If you want the run to be unwatchable, then they have 6 and 8 hour long tapes.
Yoshi's eggs are at my mercy!
Okay, my local Wal Mart only had those 2h 45m SP tapes in 3  bundles..you all owe me 6.45!

Well, now recording in SP won't be a problem. Smiley I was considering just doing this damn run segemented, because I suck so much at World 5, but with Lightweight as competition, I got the enthusaism to work at it some more today. ;x

Last night's run sucked balls. I died on 5-6 3 times! Which costed me an excessive 9 minutes. It took me almost 50 minutes to finish World 5..I really need to improve on it. Anyway, I have today, and hopefully early tomorrow to work on this.

More updates as they come.

P.S. Lightweight log onto AIM already!
If you do consider doing it segmented, do individual levels like marsh.
Or maybe send in the run in as few deaths as you've managed. It doesn't have to be perfect the first time around, and people can find shortcuts afterwards (like in world 5!)
something or another
Oh boy, one of my favorite games... haven't played it in too long, though.  I should pull it out and dust it off (the SNES version).

I'll see if I can find any more shortcuts than you already have.
Yoshi's eggs are at my mercy!
Okay, since I have the right tape I had to redo all the 100% level runs. So, finnaly I managed to. In the mist of it all, I managed to get an even BETTER timing for level 1-1, by not using the red flower as a star source, so far the contents of the tape are (in order):

- level 1-2 100% run, timed by me at 1m 18s, an astonishing 11 seconds faster than current record.
- level 1-1 100% run, timed at 1m 16s, 1 second faster than on the previous tape, new route used, and 11 seconds faster than current record.

Possible things to do:

- level 1-7 100% run, I use different routes and don't intend to get hit by fuzzies. Or mindlessly butt stomp to access the flashy eggs. At best, my time will be 4-5 seconds better.

Anyways, I'm off to attempt 1-7, and then the damn single segment YI.

» Soteos
If I do choose to do segmented, it'll be 6 segmented by worlds. And the WORSE that'll happen will be 12 segmented, 5 worlds, and 8 for each level in world 5. T_T; But I doubt that'll happen. Smiley
Uhhh question... if you're doing 100% levels, and they're not on the SNES, will they replace marsh's?
Yoshi's eggs are at my mercy!
Well, certain levels have changes, but 1-1 and 1-2 don't have any. So it shouldn't matter.
Yoshi's eggs are at my mercy!
Well, major update for once. I have succesfully taped my run. But knowing me, it never goes that smoothly. World 5 didn't go too bad, infact it was average. Cheesy But the problem of course was 6-8. I have DECIDED to make this run segmented unfortunately. After realizing the randomness of doors 1-4, (door 3 is 99.6% of time, door 4 being negative 12%) and the fact that all the skull birds are arragned VERY, VERY, VERY different from the snes version, well let's just say damn near 9 minutes of mistakes! So the run will have 2 segments:

- tutorial level to 6-7.
- 6-7 & Final Boss.

The time of segment 1 being 2h 20m 52s, I'll report segment 2 tomorrow.
On those "Random" doors, you have to learn to follow them. I'm talking about seeing which is the door you want and following it with your eye so you'll have less problems hitting it. Also, remember the order of the doors: 4, 3, 2, 1, leather rinse, repeat.

Remember this, and that small section will be always faster. I now hit #4 about 61% more.

Me being on AIM is kinda random. you might try at night (8 pm est or later), but there's no guarantee.
Yoshi's eggs are at my mercy!
Thanks Lightweight, also that was my impatience speaking earlier, because my run is near perfect minus about 4-9 minutes of mistakes and then 6-8 collapsing on me. I really want a very impressive single segment that can at least match your posted 2h 8m. ;_; Damnit! I hate determination! Because of you now I'm attempting this again.. Tongue
Yoshi's eggs are at my mercy!
ALRIGHT PEOPLE THIS IS IT!

I finnaly have succeded. My final run is taped and is being mailed off tomorrow! Grin

My run went excellent. Only 3-4 deaths. With sub 6 minutes of mistakes. My time is just barely missing sub 2h 20m:

2h 20m 38s

My worst death being on Tap Tap's fort (6-4), I die at the boss. And I had skiped all the checkpoints for obvious reasons.. T_T;

My strategy towards 6-8 was different however, I purposely use the checkpoint, then go for a door, first time I got the worst #3. I die immediately and respawn ASAP. Go again...#3 again, die ASAP. Then 3rd time, I get what I wanted, #4. And I managed to do all that in less than half the time of completing #3. I screw up on 2-2, messed up on my shortcut then die. I recochete my eggs every downtime I can, esspeically in 1-5 and 6-5. And well, y'all will see within 2 weeks or however long it takes. Wink

BTW I'm sending via priority mail. ;x

  :headbanger: :monkey:  :rockout: :rocker:
Yay! Yay! And single segment too! Congrats for not killing yourself before finishing it!
Lookin forward to it.
Looking forward to it.

2h 20m...

Impressive.

I STILL SAY THAT BIG FAT 2 CAN BE TAKEN DOWN! I WILL HAVE FAITH!

Well, once you see it, you can tell me where I went wrong besides 2 obvious mistakes that costed me like 3-4 minutes. And 2 other minor deaths. I really can't figure how you got your 2h 8m that you posted on your old thread a while back. =\ But I would love to find out.

Anyway, I mailed the tape off. Priority Mail for the Yoshi fans! <3 You all now owe me an additional 4.56!
Yoshi's eggs are at my mercy!
Damn, I wish I hadn't sent taht tape so early. I found new shortcuts to beat the current 4-5, and 5-4. I found a new shortcut on 4-5 that Radix didn't notice. And 5-4 I just generally do cleaner and get like 3-5 seconds faster. Though I probably won't submit those until my next speedrun tape is submitted.
Please, share those shortcuts with us mere mortals. We beg of you!
Yoshi's eggs are at my mercy!
xD, alright.

In 4-5:

I start off by jumping over the chomp rock. THen leap over the shell-less koopa. Then eat the shell'd one to the right turn around and spit it out at the spikey guys. Jump over them to Flower 1, then go back up to the shell-less koopa. Jump on him, do an excelled flutter kick over the butt-stomp pole.

Fall in front of the koopa next to the "?" cloud. Eat the koopa, spit it at the ? cloud, get the 3 stars inside. Eat the 3 shy guys to the right, fall in the pit get the 2 red coins jump back out.

Go downhill, eat enough crap until I have 6 eggs. Then fire an egg at the flower 2. Get the red coins there, continue down past the yellow crap. Fire an egg through the second thing of yellow crap, get the red coin held by the red shy guy.

Eat the FIRST rolly polly, and kick the other one next to the koopa to the right, then jump into the ring. Have 23 Stars, then grab the polly and koopa who turned into stars, have 25 stars. Then eat the polly in my mouth. And grab a shell'd koopa.

*NEW SHORTCUT ALERT*

THen jump on the red winged koopa. With the sheel of the other koopa in my mouth. Flutter over that butt-stomp pole. And fall into the cave thingy with 3 red coins and a flower 3.

Hit the "!" Switch, get to the end, get the 2 red coins, spit the shell in my mouth UPWARD. Jump on it and do a excelled flutter kick to the door.

Then at that point do things a tad bit faster than Radix did and that's it for 4-5.

5-4, I just generally do smoother than Marsh, I skip the 2nd red bridge cloud. And show off alot of rechocheting of my eggs on the scroll part. It's only like 3-4 seconds shorter, but more entertaining on the scroll part. Smiley

Congratulations! You obviously have more patience than many of us. Can't wait to see it

tri hex didn't read the FAQ.

Specifically, the part that says:
"[...] use the Game Boy Player GCN addon, and set the screen size to Normal with filter set to Sharp for best picture."

The 'full' size is distorting and blurring everything upwards in order to try to fill the screen. You should not use it.

Opps..sorry, completely forgot. x_X But by noticing that, I assume you got the tape! Yay!

Also I just checked FAQ, rules, and submission and didn't see anything concerning GB Players. Is there some other page I don't know of?
Oh, my heart dropped when I heard that from Radix. Ow, I hope its still reasonably good quality... can we still make out what's going on in the run?
It's the first part under "How to record my own run?" question in the FAQ.  Anyways, the video should still be watchable, as I did my DKC2 run with full screen AND SLP (Bah!  Stupid VCR remote was missing, and I couldn't change the setting).  Either way, it's not going to be as CLEAR as it would be otherwise, but it won't make the run unwatchable.  Unless you download the low quality run.  I can barely make heads or tails on that, and I did the stupid run!
dinosaur from the past
Yeah, it's not nearly THAT bad. If it was Radix would just reject it.
