You'll see soon enough.  8) Grin

Actually, might as well...

2:54 (I think)
Totally awesome.
Hi! I'm andrewg!
So are you still going to speedrun marble madness now croc-doc? There isn't much room for mistakes now. You could always try and take the shortcut in level 5. That is so hard to do, but I've done it a couple times. I don't want to attempt it during a run though.

Man, I hate those wands. I feel like I should be making more attempts, but I doubt I'll beat my current run. This is one of the only times I've done a deathless run. So I'm pretty happy with myself  Cheesy

Have you beaten the game many times without dying croc-doc?
Honestly, I haven't beaten the game without dying yet.  The thing is, there isn't any particular area that causes me trouble, except maybe those hammers in Aerial, and that's only because I'm impatient.  I've breezed through each level individually dozens of times without dying, but when I try to do them all in a row, out comes the dustpan.  I'll keep trying though, and maybe with some luck (no wands) I'll get a decent time.

I've done the shortcut a couple of times myself too, but I'm not comfortable attempting it if I've had a perfect run up to that point.  I typically stop on the ramp just a hair past where I need to be to pull it off.  It's annoying how you can't just roll back.

What are your times on the first 4 levels?  I'd like to see if I should even bother continuing with this.

Hi! I'm andrewg!
Yeah, it's really hard to avoid dying, and it kills some of the entertainment of the run even though it doesn't waste much time. I'm just glad I made some more attempts and decided against submitting a run I made a few days ago with 1 death. Marble Madness is tricky. In on of my best attempts, I got hit by a wand while in the air and it killed me. That was really aggrevating.

In my run, I think it was:
81 - got a wand at the very start (78? maybe without the wand hit)

I don't think I could beat own time now unless I didn't get hit by any wands of course. (and that's only like 2 seconds)

There's always room for improvement. The TAS is 14 seconds faster than me.
Man, with those times, you weren't kidding about there not being much room for mistakes now.

I hope I'm not accidentally giving you the wrong times. I do think those are correct and I forget the next two. So sorry if it turns out I was wrong. I just really don't want to fool around with that tape anymore. (My VCR has been acting stupidly, so I don't want to take any chances)
No, I believe you.  I've gotten 55-48-68-high 70s too, but that was with absolute perfection.  The first two levels are easy enough, but sometimes I just can't shake a 47 in the 2nd.  It's only a half second difference though, if that.  I also seem to be regressing on the 3rd level; I'm now getting 66-67, even when starting with a 48.

Do you have a trick for dealing with the hammers at the end of the 4th level?  I'm guessing with your time, you didn't wait at all for a clear path and just went.  Were you lucky, or did you do some deft dodging?

Hi! I'm andrewg!
It was mainly just luck to be honest. Smiley

My end score was 172,690 I think. My highest score ever.

EDIT: just watched it for you croc.

81 (wand)
81 (got a 3 second bonus from the things I killed)

For the hammers I actually took it slow accross the path and then when the oppertunity came I rushed past the last hammer.

Hey, great job andrewg!  I figured you would have hit 2:55-56.  I'm really excited to see this.  While I thought my brother's run was quick, seeing 19 seconds shaved off it would be most impressive.
Andrew, I just watched your run for the first time (I couldn't download the verification copy for some reason), and I must say it's one of the greatest speedrunning achievements I've ever seen.  Your run is so smooth and appears so effortless, that I'm afraid others might not realize or appreciate the difficulty behind it.  Even the small things impress me, such as how quickly you maneuvered up the mini ramp and entered the tube in Level 5, or how you rolled down the ramp right before the acid in Level 6 w/o bumping into the walls.  Great job!  Grin

Very, very nice.

Practically flawless.  Yes, cutting corners as Elliott refused to do can save quite a lot of time.

Tell me something, how do you avoid the glitch at 2:17 where it's difficult to roll across the gap near the edge of the screen?  That section plagued Elliott on several attempts.  Though, I see you also had to roll off the side of the ramp at the end of that same level, since another glitch lies there.  But anyway, great job!
Hi! I'm andrewg!
Thanks guys!  8) Yeah, I'd say this is probably my 2nd or 3rd best run on SDA now. I'm pretty happy with it, but I still feel like I should improve it.

At 2:17, I always try and cut across the corner so that it makes the "whoosh" noise. I think at that exact spot I'm just holding up on the D-pad, but make sure I get the whoosh, otherwise I'm usually doomed.
There's a word for that
Ahahaha, it's so fast the game can't even keep up, that's crazy. Very impressive, not to mention fast obviously.

short quality run, much like the Jaws run
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Have you ever heard of Mercury Meltdown Revolution? I think its something you would really like. You can get it for 10 dollars.

Packattack and Miles play this game.

Nice MM run. Fighting those hammers is so frustrating.

The only similarity I can see is that you roll an object around... They don't seem to have much in common other than that.  Also "Miles plays this game" doesn't seem like the best way to get someone to play a game tbh. >_>

Cool run, btw, and good job improving the old run by 19 seconds on such a short game. Smiley
everybody wanna tell you the meaning of music

I'm sorry, this is a really dumb bump, it's old and not even related but I just couldn't help myself. I would PM but I want to see if anyone knows the answer.

I'm amazed they've played this game since I thought it was pretty obscure. Do they have vids, or do you know where the best vids are?

Edit: Oh, this is a Wii sequel to the first Mercury Meltdown game, no wonder. Well, I haven't played this one, but it's very similar at least.

I think I have a new goal time.

Haha nice find andrewg!
Hi! I'm andrewg!
Playing this game some. I swear there's something wrong with me. I watched my Marble Madness run again and felt it was very well done. However, with the run being as short as it is, I feel like it should have less mistakes.

Honestly, making this post makes me realize that I should work on other runs instead of continually improving my own runs. Marble Madness is probably my 2nd best run on the site as it is. I don't think it really needs to be improved (even though, I feel like I CAN improve it, it's just a bit pointless).

I have a lot of fun with this game though. I think I will make a few attempts to improve it just to see if I can.

So, I just decided to learn this game on a whim, since it's so short, and I already owned it.

It's been a couple of weeks now, and I've got some pretty solid times, including an unrecorded run just tonight that was 1-death and ended in a 78, although, I got 3 wands (stages 2, 3, and 5) Angry  Timewise, it was probably around a 3:05 to 3:08. I'll probably try to stream some WR attempts in the near future, but I can see where a better time is definitely possible, if extremely difficult.

I'm still figuring out how to get a consistent 55 on stage 1, but beyond that, I've had IL times that beat the current uploaded time by 1-2 seconds on stages 3, 4, and 6.  I'd really like to get more consistent at the stage 5 shortcut, but it's way more precise than I expected.

Even if I got WR, though, I don't think I'd submit anything unless it was 2:49 or better.  a 1-3 second improvement isn't worth submitting for, since andrewg's run is so godlike already.  My ideal run would be wandless, and save a second on 3, 4, and/or 6.

Of course, I'm jumping to conclusions.  For me to beat WR, I'd need a crazy good perfect storm of a run.
Good luck! The wand i got wasted maybe 2 seconds. I estimate 2:47 would maybe be the limit on this. Its definitely beatable, but the run on the whole is pretty nice. I know for sure I could hit 2:50, abd lower if i could get the stage 5 cut in a run.

If you top me, I will retaliate. Wink

Just to show that I'm serious Tongue here's a run that I just recorded.  Sadly, my setup doesn't allow me to stream NES games, but I'm still recording just fine.  This is easily my PB, and the Ultimate stage here is as fast as I've ever seen it.  Final time was approx. 2:57.5

47 (1 death)
75 (2 deaths, +3 sec. from enemies)

I really need to clean up that stage 5.
