My feelings on The Demon Rush
I think we've gone over a bunch of these already, but the main thread is now mostly for discussing the location, so I decided to make a new thread for brainstorming and ideas. Should this thread also be used for promotion ideas? I'm not sure, that could use a separate thread.

This is just quoted from the first post in the main topic.

Quote:
-More special events: Now we can't plan for all of these, or else we wouldn't have something as special as shirt ripping time ;D. However, some of the best moments of our marathon were events such as Pianotoads, Super Blindfolded Bros. and FF6 Opera scene. We could definitely plan a couple more things for next year, such as Piano-something else, or even a band for a game, if the game has a versus mode and more than one runner wants toplay the game, they can play the versus mode for the right to play the game. I'm sure there's more we can do, but that's just to get the ball rolling.

-Game Factoids: Thanks to Tigger77 for this idea. Just 30 seconds to a minute of brief info about each game we run. Stuff like the release date, how well-received it was, how much it sold, random trivia. People like this sort of thing, so it can't hurt.

-Side Quest donations: We should be open to the possibility of doing a side quest if people donate, but only if the side quest isn't very long.

-Scan the pictures we're giving away as prizes so people can actually them (Thanks pootrain and Carc!)

-Runner Introductions and Post-run interviews

-Implementing a timer: I know Joshthefunkdoc has implemented one for his runs, so this can't be difficult.

-Possibly limiting the amount of people in the game room: Frezy_Man and Breakdown suggested this one because sometimes quiter people were being overpowered by louder people (EMPTYEYE! ;)). Personally, I'm not so sure about this idea because it might make commentary more regimented and less relaxed and casual.

P.S. If anyone wants to take over this topic and maintain a list then just ask.
Thread title:
#Casual
For each game, the runner could think ahead of time various challenges they know of in a game and offer to do them for donations.

Examples:

-Difficult tricks like the Grand Abyss dash jump in Metroid Prime 2
-different routes like that Contra game Mike is always playing
-naming save files and characters

We can then have a database for these "donation opportunities"
Talk to the Hand
Related to "different routes" would be "different characters". IE someone could donate to watch me and Mike play Final Fight with any two of Chump #1 Guy, Chump #2 Cody, or MIKE HAGGAR. Cheesy
you guys could have something like this
little competitions like that in games that are short and that most people already played, obviously not meant to break any current records, but just for fun.
Fucking Weeaboo
There's quite a few races planned, more then what was there last year.  Including a 3 way SotN race (let's hope that Rane doesn't have an epic fail this year with the Richter skip).  I know I have at least 2 planned (ActRaiser and DXC).

how about choosing online fighting or 1v1 games where donators get to play with speedrunners?  if you donate a buck you get a chance to play against a really good dude at x game or whatever, basically paying to get your ass kicked.
Fucking Weeaboo
Well, there are some tournaments going on the side, but mainly between those at the marathon.  With what sounds like much better internet then at Mike Fest, having a side stream with a fighting game or whatnot sounds kinda interesting.

Oh yeah the different characters and routes are kind of assumed, since we did that some last year.

The problem with difficult tricks is that usually only speedrunners know them. It's really hard to convince people to donate for something they don't know. Good example from last year is the Flying Battery 1 skip mike89 did.

Playing a game once counts as always playing? And the name of that game is Metal Slug, you philistine. Angry

Yes, we'll be sure to do this, like last year.

i think side streams are a great idea. there's gotta be some people out there who don't really want to watch 5 hour rpg runs (or whatever), so we could try to keep their interest with something else while those are going on, assuming the connection can handle it.
Fucking Weeaboo
I think it should, given the stats Mike gave about his connection (which had to handle 2 streams) compared to what's at the new location.

Quote:
When I tried out their wireless internet, the connection was 12.5mb down and 7ish up. For reference, the marathon house had 8/1. Boniene said the connection would be upgraded to 50/10 by marathon time, and we would have a dedicated wired connection for the stream.

So it should very easily handle several streams + online play via something like Xbox Live.
My name is unpronounceable
If you are thinking of setting up a side stream, how about having some people play games from the main stream casually?  I don't know how it would work out with the timing and such, but my idea behind it is to show just how good the speed runners are compared to those that haven't practised it.

Obviously some games would work better than others, but for something like Blast Corps or Katamari Damacy, I think it could show just how good the speedrunners are.
Fucking Weeaboo
I think it would also be fun to show off the tournaments that we'll be holding as well.  I don't know if we'd want to do a two stream setup for that too (one for the game, one for a webcam).  You know, "Welcome to the Marathon Green Room Channel!  Where we kick ass, even after we're done kicking ass."

sounds like this is turning into the first sdacon.

Sounds like fun.  Maybe I should show up in cosplay too. Tongue

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I've only improved my shield dashing, times, and Richter skip accuracy by a lot since then... but no no no, no pressure. Obviously i'm the UNDERDOG in the race cause yeah.. I screwed up last year...

god dammit. It wouldn't have been so bad if it werent for neither rom or myself being properly rested. But its all good now. . . . I hope VG doesn't CHOKE >D

Anyway, i thought there was the groove idea..

and probably while side streams should be ok, i wonder if it would put less emphasis on the main stream and thus draw less people to the "main stage" for lesser known titles in favor of screwing around on something randomly.

As for what I can do... I've always been up for SoTN challenges. People dish out money I'll do a challenge but alas we are racing. So if its Race do-able I might be able to do something! such as "Beat Medusa with fists only!" or something like that. Hell i'd even be willing to go blindfolded on a few of em...
Fucking Weeaboo
Oh I'm sure I'll choke on something.  I mean, right now I am scheduled for Mega Man 10. >_>

I also have an interesting idea for one of my races.  I want to keep it secret for now, since it is a pretty big revelation if I can pull it off (since it's a pretty startling handicap for me).

P.S. I know you won't choke this year, Rane.  You're too awesome to do that.  Remember, 2nd step, right?
